Lock Haven, Pa. - Bloomsburg's Dana Wieller scored a career high in points in a matchup of two of the top three teams in the PSAC East while Edinboro's Samantha Blazetic averaged a double-double as both individuals earn their second PSAC Athlete of the Week award of the season.

Both Freshmen of the Week are familiar faces as East Stroudsburg's Jessica Martin and Clarion's Hannah Heeter both earn the honor for the sixth time on the season. For Heeter, it is her sixth consecutive accolade.  



PSAC East Athlete of the Week
Dana Wieller, Bloomsburg
Junior, Guard
Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty


Wieller averaged 24.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals to help Bloomsburg to a pair of wins last week over Shippensburg and West Chester. She shot slightly better from three-point range (11-of-21, 52.4 percent), than she did from inside the arc (5-of-10) and also made 5-of-6 free throws (83.3 percent). Wieller started off the week with 16 points and four rebounds in a 72-63 win over Shippensburg. Then, in Saturday's showdown with West Chester with first place in the PSAC East on the line, Wieller poured in a career-high 32 points, tying a school record with eight three-pointers, in the Huskies' 84-76 win. For the game, she hit 11-of-21 from the floor and 8-of-15 from beyond the arc as Bloomsburg took a two-game lead over the Golden Rams with four games to play.


PSAC East Freshman of the Week

Martin earns her second straight East Freshman of the Week accolade after averaging 11.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks in two Warrior losses last week. She made 61.1 percent of her shots from the field (11-of-18) and also chipped in with an assist and a steal per contest. Martin scored 15 points and added three rebounds, four blocks and two steals on Wednesday against Mansfield and then had eight points, nine boards and four more blocks against Shippensburg on Saturday. Martin continues to lead the PSAC in blocks per game with 2.8 and has now recorded at least four blocks in four consecutive games.


PSAC West Athlete of the Week
Samantha Blazetic, Edinboro
Junior, Center
Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North


Blazetic averaged a double-double with 21.0 points and 10.5 rebounds and shot 70 percent from the floor (19-of-27) to help Edinboro, now ranked No. 2 in the country, to a pair of wins last week to remain undefeated at 22-0. Blazetic also contributed 5.0 blocks per game, made 4-of-6 free throws and committed just three turnovers in 67 minutes of playing time. In a Top 25 showdown with No. 18 Gannon on Wednesday, Blazetic finished with 23 points, seven rebounds and six blocks as she keyed a comeback for the Fighting Scots, who trailed by seven at halftime. She recorded all six of her blocks in the second half and made 11-of-13 shots from the floor for the game, helping lead the Scots to a 74-57 win as they outscored the Golden Knights 42-18 in the second half. The junior then scored a game-high 19 points and hauled in a career-high 14 rebounds to go with four more blocks in Saturday's win over Slippery Rock.


PSAC West Freshman of the Week
Hannah Heeter, Clarion

For the sixth straight week, Heeter averaged a double-double with 15.5 points and 11.5 rebounds while also adding 2.5 assists, 3.5 blocks and 2.5 steals per contest. She just missed a double-double in Wednesday's loss to Mercyhurst, scoring 13 points to go along with nine rebounds, four steals and two blocks. In Saturday's loss to Gannon, Heeter notched her ninth double-double of the season - all in the last 12 games - with 18 points and 14 boards in addition to five blocks and four assists, just missing her sixth 15-rebound game of the year by one.





Team Notes

Bloomsburg

The 20 wins for Bloomsburg this season give the Huskies 20 wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2000-01 and 2001-02 ...The Huskies six straight wins is a season-best winning streak for the team ... Dana Wieller's career high 32 points put her career total at 1,330. She is now seventh all-time in school history ... Kayla Oxenrider tied a school record when she hit 15 free throws in the Huskies win over West Chester. The 15 made free throws had been done two previous times, the last coming the 1991-92 season ... The 84 points scored by the Huskies over West Chester was the 8th time this year Bloomsburg has surpassed 80 points scored in a game this season.

California
Cal U remains in fourth place in the league standings after posting a pair of home wins last week … The Vulcans posted a 67-63 win over No. 20 IUP on Wednesday, marking the second win by Cal U over a nationally-ranked team at the Convocation Center this season … Cal U and IUP have met in each of the last five seasons in the PSAC Tournament, including three times in the title game … Senior G Danielle Luckett is averaging 20.7 points over the last six games with four 20-point games … Senior F Amy Johns averaged a double-double of 21.5 points and 12.0 rebounds last week … Johns and Luckett combined for 87 of the 136 team’s points (64.0 percent) in the wins over IUP and Lock Haven

Cheyney
Nadirah Brown netted a season high 25 points while grabbing a season high 15 rebounds at Mansfield … Cheyney shot a season high 6-14 (43%) from behind the arc in the loss to Mansfield … Cheyney will look to snap it’s losing streak at home against Kutztown and Shippensburg.

Clarion
Hannah Heeter is not only averaging a double-double on the season (12 ppg, 10.9 rpg), but she has been nothing short of fantastic in Clarion's 10 games vs. PSAC West opponents averaging 15.2 points, 13.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.9 assists per game while shooting an incredible 61.3% from the field … Eight of her nine double-doubles on the season have come against PSAC West opponents and all nine have come since Jan. 6. She is the first freshman at Clarion to 200 rebounds in 10 years and her 217 boards are the 5th most by a Clarion rookie ever. She also has 5 games of 15 or more rebounds ... So. G Emma Fickle has recorded back-to-back seasons of at least 50 3-pointers, the first Clarion player to do that since Amelia Harris in 2004 & 2005. Fickel, who scored a season-high 21 points Saturday, has 140 3's in her career, the 6th most ever at Clarion.

East Stroudsburg
ESU saw its three-game winning streak end with two losses this week, 81-71 at Mansfield and 68-51 vs. Shippensburg ... Warriors (9-13, 6-12 PSAC) fell 3 games behind Shippensburg for 4th in the PSAC East with 4 games remaining ... ESU scored its 3rd-most points of the season at Mansfield and put 4 players in double figures ... Jr. F Fayola Moise had her first career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds ... Fr. F Jessica Martin had 15 and was 7-7 from the field ... Martin had 8 points and 9 rebounds vs. Shippensburg and had 4 blocks in both games ... Martin (9.6 ppg, 7.3 rpg) has 4+ blocks in 4 straight games and leads the PSAC with 2.8 blocks per game ... She was 14th in DII and 3rd among freshmen in blocks last week ... Sr. G Cyara Woodridge scored a season-high 21 points vs. Ship, one off her career-high.

Edinboro
The second-ranked Fighting Scots (22-0, 18-0 PSAC) remained perfect after surviving a scare from No. 18 Gannon, 74-57, on Wednesday. After trailing at halftime for just the second time all season, Edinboro outscored Gannon 42-18 in the second half … Senior Renee’ Brown led the Scots with 26 points and 7 rebounds while junior Samantha Blazetic shot 11 of 13 from the field for 23 points and had all 6 blocks during the second half comeback … Edinboro capped season sweep of Slippery Rock with 62-39 win on Saturday. Blazetic recorded a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds and Brown added 13 points, 7 boards and 5 steals. Sophomore Katie Collins picked up first career start and added 8 points and 4 steals … Next up is a home game on Wednesday against Indiana (Pa.) before Edinboro wraps the week with a trip to Clarion on Saturday.

Gannon
Gannon finished the week with a 1-1 record … The Lady Knights dropped a 74-57 loss to #2 Edinboro before defeating Clarion 80-61 … Gannon held a seven-point lead against the Fighting Scots, but couldn't hold off Edinboro's defensive pressure in the second half. After turning the ball over just six times in the first 20 minutes, Gannon committed 16 turnovers in the second half to allow the Fighting Scots to break open the game … Against Clarion, the Golden Eagles held a 7-point lead before Gannon exploded for a 25-4 scoring run in the final six minutes of the first half that gave the Lady Knights a 14-point lead at the half … Gannon swished a season-best 14 three-pointers in the game, shooting 50 percent form behind the arc … Senior Caitlyn Lowe was 7-of-9 from long range for the week, averaging a team-best 14.5 points.

IUP
The 20th-ranked Crimson Hawks went 1-1 last week, but it was their home win over Mercyhurst on Saturday night that clinched a spot in the PSAC tournament for the seventh consecutive season … IUP dropped its other game of the week at Cal on Wednesday 67-63 … In the 65-57 win over the Lakers, three players scored in double-figures, led by Jr. F Sarah Pastorek’s 14 points … Fr. G Marita Mathe had 13 points while Fr. F Ashley Stoner added 12 … A trio of players also hit double-figures in the loss to the Vulcans, this time Fr. G Amy Fairman led the team with a season-high 16 points, while Pastorek had 12 and Stoner added 10 … The Crimson Hawks have an overall record of 18-4 on the season and with a 14-4 PSAC record, sit one game behind Gannon (15-3) for second place in the Western Division.

Kutztown
Kutztown is currently on a six-game losing streak but hopes to bounce back as it faces Cheyney on Wednesday, Feb. 13 … KU defeated Cheyney earlier this season, 76-66 … Freshman Advia Campbell led KU with a career-high 15 points and 10 rebounds off the bench to record her first career double-double … She recorded three assists and a pair of steals and blocks over the Golden Rams on Wednesday … Against Millersville, junior Steph Zewe led KU with 17 points and ten rebounds to record her fifth double-double of the season … Nine of Zewe's boards came from the defensive end as she is second in the PSAC in defensive rebounds (7.2/game) … As a team, Kutztown leads the conference in defensive rebounds (29.2/game).

Lock Haven
Lock Haven went 1-1 last week, as they defeated Slippery Rock at home on Wednesday before falling to California (Pa.) on the road on Saturday … The Lady Eagles are now 8-13 overall and 7-11 in the PSAC … LHU is getting major production from freshman forward Lysa Mealing … Mealing, who has only played in eight games this season, recorded her first career double-double on Saturday against Cal. She scored 11 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out four assists, all of which were career-highs. Mealing’s 15 rebounds were the first time a Lady Eagle has grabbed 15 or more rebounds in a game since February 7, 2007 (Ginger Williams – 20) … The Haven returns to action with two road PSAC West games this week when they travel to Clarion Wednesday before heading to Gannon on Saturday.

Mansfield
The Mountaineers recorded a sweep this past week over East Stroudsburg and Cheyney to stay alive in the hunt for the final PSAC East play-off spot ... At 6-12, Mansfield is tied with East Stroudsburg for fifth place in the East and is just three games back of 9-9 Shippensburg ... Mansfield’s nine wins is the most since the 2006-07 season where the Mounties went 13-14 overall and earned a PSAC play-off berth … The Mounties rank 7th in the conference in scoring offense averaging 66.4 ppg while giving up an average of 70.7 ppg (14th PSAC) … Senior guard/forward Mallory Moore is the PSAC scoring and steals leader at 19.0 ppg and 3.1 spg respectively … Mansfield will look to extend its two-game winning streak when it hosts Bloomsburg Wednesday night at Decker.

Mercyhurst
The Lakers split two games last week ... They beat Clarion, 84-56, at home on February 8, as the team tied a season high with 12 made three-pointers ... The victory completed a season sweep of the Lady Eagles-the first time Hurst has swept Clarion since joining the PSAC prior to the 2008-09 season ... At #20 IUP February 11, Mercyhurst dropped a 65-57 decision ... Nikki Frederickson scored 16 points and grabbed six boards, but 27 turnovers did the Lakers in ... ‘Hurst is now 11-11 overall and 9-9 in the PSAC ... It is two games back of California (Pa.) for fourth place in the Western Division ... The Lakers will need to start stringing together wins to make up the ground, beginning with a game at Gannon on February 15.

Millersville
Millersville has won three consecutive games for the first time since its opening three games of the season … The Marauders torched Cheyney for the season sweep of the Wolves on Wednesday by a score of 70-35. It is the Marauders’ largest margin of victory this season … On Saturday, Millersville avenged is Jan. 21 loss at Kutztown by defeating the Golden Bears 65-55 … In the specialty statistics, the Marauders outscored both of its opponents by combined margins in fast break points (16-0), points in the paint (68-28), points off turnovers (59-19) and bench points (39-15) … Millersville shot an impressive 87 percent from the charity stripe against Cheyney and went 23-for-33 on the week.

Shippensburg
Shippensburg won Saturday at East Stroudsburg to establish a three-game cushion over the Warriors and Mansfield for the final playoff spot in the PSAC Eastern Division ... Senior Monae Baker surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career in a double-double effort on Saturday, scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds ... She now has 1,006 career points between Shippensburg (2 years) and UPJ (2 years) ... Sophomore Sarah Strybuc posted career highs for points on both games this week, scoring 21 at Bloomsburg before scoring 22 at East Stroudsburg ... Strybuc has scored at least six points in every game this season and posted double figures in six of the last seven contests ... SU is seeking its first playoff berth since the 2007-08 season ... Four of SU's starters are shooting 71 percent or better at the free-throw line this season.

Slippery Rock
Slippery Rock dropped its seventh and eighth consecutive games last week, falling on the road at Lock Haven and No. 2 Edinboro … Danielle Smith continues to lead the team with per game averages of 13.6 points and 7.6 rebounds.

West Chester
West Chester split its two league games last week, defeating Kutztown on Wednesday at home, 66-53, before dropping a road contest to first-place Bloomsburg, 84-76 ... The Golden Rams clinched a playoff spot with their win over Kutztown on Wednesday ... WCU is now tied for second in the East with Millersville ... Jr. F Alexandra Lennon scored 21 points in each game to lead the Golden Rams ... Lennon is averaging 20.3 ppg over WCU's last three contests.
