WEST CHESTER CLINCHES PSAC FIELD HOCKEY GOLD

West Chester, Pa. - West Chester University earned a 4-0 victory over Millersville in order to take home PSAC field hockey championship gold. 

The Golden Rams' Michele Schrift found the back of the cage on three occasions, with Kelsi Lykens earning the game winning mark just into the sixth minute of the championship match. 

The win gives the defending NCAA D-II champions their first PSAC title and stopped Millersville from earning its third crown in PSAC history. 

The NCAA will announce the teams that have been selected to compete for the national championship on Monday, October 29. 



























WEST CHESTER DEFEATS IUP, WILL PLAY FOR PSAC CROWN

West Chester, Pa. - West Chester defeated IUP 2-1 in the PSAC semifinals to advance to the 2012 PSAC Field Hockey Championship match.

Kayla Gluchowski earned the Golden Rams' first goal of the match in the 20th minute, followed by another WCU goal in the 30th minute by Megan Callanan. The Crimson Hawks cut the WCU lead in half with a mark in the 32nd minute scored by Kate Bruce. 

The Defending NCAA Division II Champions are in the hunt for their first PSAC title, as the school is only in its second season of competition within the PSAC. 

The Golden Rams will face Millersville, who defeated Shippensburg 1-0 in the semifinal round, on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 5:00 p.m. on West Chester's home turf, Vonnie Gros Field.




KATELYN ZAPP'S GOAL PUSHES MILLERSVILLE PAST SHIPPENSBURG IN PSAC SEMIS

West Chester, Pa. - A 1-0 Millersville semifinal victory over Shippensburg on Friday afternoon allows the Marauders to advance to the 2012 PSAC FIeld Hockey Championship game. 

Just three minutes into the semifinal match at West Chester's Vonnie Gros Field, Ashley Weber assisted Zatelyn Zapp's sixth goal of the the season in order to give Millersville its first appearance in a PSAC title game since the 1989 season. 

The Marauders are 2-1 in PSAC Championship games, losing 2-0 to Lock Haven in 1989, and winning back-to-back titles in 1985 and 1986. 

Millersville's opponent will be decided with a 6:00 p.m. semifinal match between IUP and West Chester. The Marauders will face the winner of Friday night's game on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 5:00 p.m. in West Chester.



FIELD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

Lock Haven, Pa. -The 2012 PSAC Field Hockey Championship semifinal and title game are set for this upcoming weekend hosted by West Chester University. 

On Friday, Oct. 26, Millersville (13-6), who beat Bloomsburg (14-5) 2-0 in the first round, will take on the West's No. 1 seed Shippensburg (17-1). IUP (14-4) defeated Slippery Rock (8-10) 1-0 in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals against the East's No. 1 West Chester (15-2). 

The winner from each semifinal match will square-off in the championship match, scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Saturday at Vonnie Gros Field on West Chester's campus. 

Millersville has gained entry into the PSAC Championship site for the first time since the 1993 season, while Friday will mark IUP's eighth trip to the semifinals in 10 seasons. West Chester, defending NCAA Division II Champions, are in the hunt for its first PSAC crown. Shippensburg has won the Western Division four consecutive seasons and earned the program's first and only PSAC title in 2005.

IUP EARNS 1-0 VICTORY TO ADVANCE TO PSAC SEMIFINALS

Indiana, Pa. - IUP fought to a 1-0 win over visiting Slippery Rock in the 2012 PSAC Field Hockey Quarterfinals in order to advance to the tournament semifinals. 

With the quarterfinal win, IUP will travel to West Chester University to face the Golden Rams on Friday, the first seed of the PSAC East Division. 

The only goal of the game was scored off the stick of Alicia Straining in the 51st minute. SRU had the opportunity to equalize with just three seconds left on the game clock, but the Crimson Hawks' goalie Brittany Varacallo registered the save and protected the win for IUP. 

Slippery Rock ends the season with eight wins, the most since 1998, while IUP will make its eighth PSAC semifinal appearance in the past 10 years.

MILLERSVILLE DEFEATS BLOOMSBURG IN PSAC QUARTERFINAL

Bloomsburg, Pa. - Millersville University scored on two occasions in the second 35 minutes of play against Bloomsburg on Tuesday night in order to advance to the semifinal round of the 2012 PSAC Field Hockey Championship with a 2-0 shutout.

With the quarterfinal victory, Millersville will travel to West Chester University to face Shippensburg on Friday, the first seed of the PSAC West Division.
 
The first Marauder goal came in the 44th minute when Sarah Bomberger found the stick of Samantha Ruane off a penalty corner to mark Ruane's fifth goal on the season. Ruane turned around and assisted Millersville's second goal in the 59th minute, as Katelyn Zapp earned her fifth mark of the year.

The Marauder victory denied Bloomsburg access to the PSAC Championship match for the first time in 10 years, while Millersville celebrates making it to the semifinals for the first time since the 1993 season.

CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE ANNOUNCEMENT

Lock Haven, Pa. -- The 2012 PSAC Field Hockey Championship field is set for next week's first round of competition to be played on Tuesday, Oct. 23. 

In the East, third seed Millersville travels to defending PSAC Champion Bloomsburg University for a 4:00 p.m. game at Sports Stadium. Third seed Slippery Rock in the West Division will play at No. 2 Indiana (Pa.) at George P. Miller Stadium at 7:30 p.m. First ranked West Chester and Shippensburg each earn a bye into the semifinal round. 

The entire championship schedule is as follows:
