IUP will play for the Division II men's basketball national championship on Saturday after defeating St. Cloud State 76-70 on Thursday night's national semifinals. For the third straight year, a PSAC team will represent the Atlantic Region in the NCAA Elite Eight, as IUP will appear in its fifth all-time Elite Eight. The national quarterfinals from Springfield, Mass. get underway on Wednesday, March 24, when the Crimson Hawks will take on Valdosta State at 2:30 p.m. Semifinals are slated for Thursday at 6:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and will be televised live on CBS-College Sports. PSAC East co-champion East Stroudsburg, PSAC West and Tournament champion IUP and this year's PSAC Tournament runner-up and last year's NCAA Atlantic Regional runner-up Kutztown are will compete this weekend in the NCAA Atlantic Regional, which will be held at two different sites beginning Saturday with first round games. Kutztown’s Stephen Dennis, the leading scorer in NCAA Division II, has been named the PSAC East Player of the Year while Thomas Young of PSAC champion IUP has been named the PSAC West Player of the Year, highlighting the 2009-10 All-PSAC men’s basketball teams as voted on by the league’s head coaches. Three PSAC men's and three PSAC women's basketball teams have been selected to their respective NCAA Tournament fields as the NCAA announced the Division II tournament fields on Sunday evening. PSAC champion IUP as well runner-up Kutztown and PSAC East co-champion East Stroudsburg were selected to the men's tournament.
