BLOOMSBURG, Pa. --- Mercyhurst University senior Saioa Gomez de Segura was named the PSAC Women’s Tennis Champion Scholar, the league announced Friday afternoon prior to the Lakers' semifinal.

The PSAC Champion Scholar Awards are modeled after the NCAA's Elite 90 award and honor the student-athlete with the top grade point average who is competing at the site of each of the PSAC's 23 team championship finals. The selection criteria for the Champion Scholar Awards is similar to that of the NCAA Elite 90 awards, which honor the student-athlete with the top GPA at each of the championship finals sites of the 90 NCAA championships across all three divisions – I, II, and III.

The Vitoria, Spain and Ikasbidea School graduate won the award last year, as well.  A business economics major and two-time reigning Western Division Athlete of the Year had accumulated 121 credits while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
