PSAC Athletes of the Week - 1/3 Tuesday, January 3, 2017 2:30 PM Men's Basketball: Eastern Division Athlete of the Week Dustin Sleva Shippensburg (Jr. / F) Pittsburgh, Pa. / Montour Sleva scored a career-high 28 points Friday, making a career-best 15-of-17 rate at the free-throw line, as the No. 18-ranked Shippensburg men's basketball team roared past No. 13 Kutztown, 97-82, in the divisional opener from Keystone Arena...His career-high 28 points was capped off by a three-pointer with 3:06 to go that surpassed his previous best of 27 set last season at home against Mansfield...Facing PSAC East Player of the Year Josh Johnson of Kutztown, Sleva totaled 28 points, nine rebounds, six assists and two blocks on 6-of-11 shooting...Johnson was in foul trouble all night; he sat much of the first half after McCarthur drew a charge on his drive at the 12:13 mark, and totaled just eight points, two rebounds, two assists and three blocks in 22 minutes...Sleva had been held to just two rebounds well into the second half before recording rebounds on three consecutive possessions and adding more to his total down the stretch...he has totaled at least 15 points and nine rebounds in all 10 games this season. Men's Basketball: Eastern Division Freshman of the Week John Castello Shippensburg (Fr. / F) Mars, Pa. / Mars Area In a 97-82 win at #13 Kutztown, Castello had a breakout performance...he finished 11-of-12 from the field with career highs of 23 points and 18 rebounds...Castello had already achieved his fifth double-double of the year by halftime...at the intermission, Castello had already totaled 14 points and 11 rebounds on 7-of-8 shooting...his 11-of-12 performance from the field was scarily close to the single-game school record for proficiency: Brian Rehm was 11-of-11 from the field against Clarion during the 1991-92 season...he even sank the only three-pointer he attempted. Men's Basketball: Western Division Athlete of the Week Jaymon Mason Edinboro (Jr. / G) Edinboro, Pa. / General McLane Mason hit a 3-pointer with 1:02 remaining to snap 69-69 tie and give Edinboro the lead for good, then made two free throws with six seconds remaining to seal win … continued his ascent up the Edinboro career scoring charts as he scored 33 points, making 10-of-21 field goals, including 4-of-7 3-pointers, and going 9-for-10 at the line. He added five rebounds and five assists without committing a turnover ... the junior guard now has four 30-point games this season and eight for his career. He moved into 21st place in career scoring with 1,162 points. He had 19 points in the second half. Men's Basketball: Western Division Freshman of the Week Josh Wise Pitt.-Johnstown (Fr. / G) Washington, Pa. / Washington Wise scored a career-high 19 points in a win against Clarion. The freshman went 8-for-13 from the floor, including 3-for-5 from three-point range. Wise swatted two shots. Women's Basketball: Eastern Division Athlete of the Week Celeste Robinson Millersville (Sr. / G) Jim Thorpe, Pa. / Jim Thorpe Robinson returned to action after missing seven games and scored 13 points against USciences and 28 points in a victory over Mansfield. With her 28 point performance vs. Mansfield, the All-PSAC player eclipsed 1,000 points for her career. Robinson added nine rebounds, six steals and four assists in the two games. Women's Basketball: Eastern Division Freshman of the Week Gabrielle Troisi West Chester (Fr. / G) Norristown, Pa. / Pope John Paul II Troisi provided nine points to go along with a career and new team high eight assists in West Chester’s 81-67 victory over Bloomsburg inside Hollinger Field House Friday evening. Troisi went four of six from the floor, but it was her ability to find open teammates that truly shined the most in the win. The Norristown native also chipped in five rebounds and a pair of steals for the Golden Rams. Women's Basketball: Western Division Athlete of the Week Jontay Walton Edinboro (So. / G) Buffalo, N.Y. / Cardinal O'Hara Walton scored a career-high 23 points off the bench as the Fighting Scots upset #2 California and handed them their first loss of the season ... Walton led the Fighting Scots to their tenth-straight win and 14th-straight home win at McComb Fieldhouse dating back to last season. Women's Basketball: Western Division Freshman of the Week Brooke Hinderliter Slippery Rock (Fr. / G) Seminole, Pa. / Redbank Valley Hinderliter played an instrumental role in The Rock’s 72-59 victory at Seton Hill University last week. In the win, which was SRU’s fourth straight victory (its longest winning streak in the last 13 seasons), Hinderliter scored 13 points, grabbed a season-high eight rebounds and made three steals over 29 minutes. Hinderliter, who was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line and 4-of-6 from the field overall, had four offensive rebounds against the Griffins.
