McKillop, Lugo, and Pecora Earn PSAC Wrestling Honors
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Pitt-Johnstown’s Travis McKillop has been named the 2015-16 PSAC Wrestler of the Year, as selected by the league’s head coaches. Edinboro’s Patricio Lugo has been named the PSAC Freshman of the Year, while UPJ’s Pat Pecora has been named the PSAC Coach of the Year.
McKillop earns the PSAC Wrestler of the Year honor in the same season that he was named the PSAC Championships’ Most Outstanding Wrestler. McKillop was the PSAC Champion at 184 lbs., recording a pin just one minute into the championship match. It was the second PSAC Championship for McKillop. He finished second in region and was the national runner-up, falling to Notre Dame’s Joey Davis is two hard-fought contests. Davis finished his career undefeated (131-0) and was named the Division II Wrestler of the Year. McKillop was 34-2 on the season and earned the NCAA's Most Dominant Wrestler in Division II Award at the conclusion of the national tournament. The Mountain Cats won both the PSAC Dual Meet Championship and the Super Region One Championship this season.
Lugo had a fantastic debut season with the Fighting Scots, finishing the year with a 32-9 record. At 149 lbs, he was the PSAC Champion, the third place finisher at the EWL Championships, and was just one win shy of earning All-American status, as he fell in the round of 12 at the national championships. He was tied also for the team lead in falls this season. Lugo advanced the farthest of any Edinboro wrestler at the national championships. The Fighting Scots won the PSAC Championship for the fifth straight year this season and finished second at the EWL Championships.
This is the first PSAC Coach of the Year award for Pecora in the third season in the league for Pitt-Johnstown. This season, the Mountain Cats won the PSAC Dual Meet Championship, the Super Region One Championship, and finished fourth at the national tournament. Pecora had two wrestlers (Nick Roberts and Tyler Reinhart) win national titles this year, while McKillop (the PSAC Wrestler of the Year) was the national runner-up.
