PSAC Athletes of the Week - 2/8 Monday, February 8, 2016 2:30 PM Men's Basketball: Eastern Division Athlete of the Week Josh Johnson Kutztown (Jr. / Forward) Norristown, Pa. / Norristown Johnson posted two 20-point games and averaged 22.5 points in a 2-0 week for now-first-place Kutztown. He shot 51.9 percent from the field, made 16-of-18 free throws including a perfect 11-for-11 performance against Lock Haven. He nearly averaged a double-double with 9.5 rebounds per game and added 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals per game. Against Lock Haven on Wednesday, Johnson notched his second straight and eighth double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Notably, Johnson was a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line, the seventh player in program history to make at least 11 free throws in a game without a miss. In a battle of top-four teams on Saturday against Shippensburg, he finished with 21 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. He scored the go-ahead bucket with 14 seconds left as KU ended the game on a 10-0 run to win. Men's Basketball: Eastern Division Freshman of the Week Antonio Kellem Shippensburg (Fr. / Guard) Conway, Pa. / Lincoln Park Kellem had a sensational week for the Raiders, especially on Saturday at Kutztown. He finished with a career-high 23 points on 10-of-11 shooting, including a three-pointer, and a 2-of-2 trip to the free-throw line. Kellem tied a career high with four assists, grabbed four rebounds, and had two steals in 35 minutes. He had 19 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks in a win over Mansfield. He started with eight points, four rebounds, an assist and a steal in a big win over ESU. Kellem averaged 16.7 ppg in a 2-1 week, shot 66% (18-27) from the field, and averaged 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game this week. Men's Basketball: Western Division Co-Athlete of the Week A.J. Leahey Pitt-Johnstown (Jr. / Forward) Lilly, Pa. / Penn Cambria Leahey helped the Mountain Cats to a 1-1 record last week. In the teams win against California, Leahey recorded 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Leahey recorded a career-high 32 points in the teams overtime loss to Gannon Saturday. He also recorded three assists, two blocks, and a steal in the win. Men's Basketball: Western Division Co-Athlete fo the Week Kameron Taylor Seton Hill (Sr. / Guard) Landover, Md. / DeMatha Catholic Kameron posted his 10th double-double of the season with a 27 point, 10 rebound performance in the Griffin win over Slippery Rock. He was 8-13 from the field and 11-14 from the line. He scored the Griffins last 8 points and hit the game winning free throws with 4 seconds to play in the game. He also added 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks Men's Basketball: Western Division Freshman of the Week Jacobo Diaz IUP (Fr. / Forward) Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain / CBA Gran Canaria Diaz tied a season-high with 20 points against Edinboro, shooting 8 of 10 field goals. It was his best shooting performance of season; eight field goals is a also a season-high for Diaz. Diaz's three assists against Edinboro tied his season-high. Women's Basketball: Eastern Division Athlete of the Week Adreana Sadowski Bloomsburg (Sr. / Forward) Fleetwood, Pa. / Brandywine Heights Sadowski averaged 18.0 points and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 15-of-22 from the field for the Huskies during the week. In Wednesday's loss to West Chester, Sadowski recorded her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds while adding two assists and two steals. She then posted her fourth 20-point outing of the season in Saturday's loss at Mansfield, leading the Huskies with 20 points and eight rebounds. She also blocked three shots and had two steals in the setback. Sadowski is averaging 14.8 points and 6.3 rebounds this season. Women's Basketball: Eastern Divsion Freshman of the Week Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh Lock Haven (Fr. / Guard/Forward) State College, Pa. / State College Shelton-Burleigh had a strong week last for the Bald Eagles, who went 1-1. Over the two-game span, Shelton-Burleigh averaged 10 points, netting 10 in each game. She also had nine rebounds last week, including seven in the game at Millersville. Women's Basketball: Western Division Co-Athlete of the Week Jenna Kaufman Seton Hill (So. / Forward) Damascus, Md. / Damascus Kaufman posted her second double double of the season with a 24 point, 10 rebound performance in the Griffins win over Slippery Rock. She was 9-15 from the floor and 4-4 from the line. Kaufman also added 2 assists. It's her eighth straight double figure scoring performance. Women's Basketball: Western Division Co-Athlete of the Week Natalie Piaggesi Mercyhurst (Jr. / Forward) Bethel Park, Pa. / Seton-LaSalle Piaggesi had another solid week, posting a double-double Wednesday at home against IUP, then, led the Lakers in scoring Saturday at Clarion. Piaggesi recorded 21 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the field and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Lakers over IUP, 75-55. It was her second double-double this season. Saturday, Piaggesi scored a team-high 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting and grabbed six rebounds in a 62-55 loss at Clarion. Women's Basketball: Western Division Freshman of the Week Emily Suckling California (Fr. / Guard) Cheltenham, Australia / Mentone Girls Secondary College Suckling averaged 17.0 points off the bench last week, as Cal U won a pair of home games to seize sole possession of first place in the PSAC West standings. She shot a combined 8-of-14 (57.1 percent) from beyond the arc while playing an average of 20 minutes per game. Suckling finished with 12 points on five-of-eight shooting in an 84-66 win against Clarion on Wednesday. The Australia native then led the team with a career-high 22 points in just 21 minutes on Saturday in a 101-58 victory over Davis & Elkins. She made 8-of-13 attempts from the floor, including 6-of-10 from long range, and added three rebounds and two assists. PSAC Wrestler of the Week Austin Matthews Edinboro (So.) Greenville, Pa. / Reynolds Matthews went 5-0 for the week while competing at 157 lbs. Won 6-1 decision over Lock Haven's Aaron McKinney, the PSAC champion. He won three matches at Edinboro Open before sitting down to prepare for Sunday's dual. He secured wins of 5-0, 14-0, and by fall at 2:03. On Sunday vs. #10 Virginia Tech, won 15-3 major decision over Jake Spengler. He is now 7-1 this season. Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week Steven Morgan East Stroudsburg (Jr. / Hurdles) Egg Harbor, N.J. / Egg Harbor Township Morgan ran the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.14 (PSAC #1 time, NCAA DII #t-15) at the Armory Track Invitational on Friday. He then tied his season best in long jump (21-4 3/4), a PSAC qualifier, at ESU's DeSchriver Invitational on Saturday. Morgan is a 3x PSAC champion in the hurdles. He is a NCAA provisional qualifier for 4th time in 5 seasons of competition. Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week Grant Smith Shippensburg (Sr. / Throwing) Jefferson, Md. / Brunswick This is the third straight week Smith has improved his throws. At Susquehanna on Saturday, Smith won both throws once again. Smith, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) pacesetter in the shot put, continues to climb the NCAA performance list – he is now fifth in the country after a Saturday winning throw of 58 feet, 5 ¾ inches. He also won the weight throw by improving to 58 feet, 10 ¾ inches, which ranks 17th on the Division II performance list. Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week Jasmine Bailey Slippery Rock (Sr. / Sprints) Butler, Pa. / Butler Bailey shattered the all-time PSAC record in the 400m dash at the YSU National Invite with a time of 55.49 seconds. Her mark is 2.3 seconds faster than any other runner in the PSAC this year and makes her the only woman in PSAC history to run under 56.00 seconds indoors in the 400m. The time was almost a full second faster than her own SRU record in the event that she set one week earlier. She ranks ninth in the nation so far with the effort. To add to her outstanding day, she then anchored the SRU 4x400m relay team to a win in the event with a PSAC season-best of 3:52.95, more than 2.5 seconds better than the next fastest team in the PSAC. Bailey now owns the PSAC all-time records in both the 200m and 400m dashes indoors. Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week Sabrina Anderson Slippery Rock (Jr. / Multi) Warren, Pa. / Warren Area Anderson broke her own school record in the pentathlon with a dominant win at the YSU National Invite last weekend. Her score of 3,774 points is the best in the PSAC by 590 points and currently ranks seventh in the nation. In addition to hitting the NCAA mark in pentathlon, she also reached the NCAA provisional standard in the high jump along the way (1.66m) and more impressively, hit the PSAC qualifying standard in all five events (high jump (#2 in PSAC), shot put, long jump (#8 in PSAC), 60m hurdles (#4 in PSAC), 800m).
