Men's Basketball: Eastern Division Athlete of the Week
6256 Jamal Nwaniemeka
East Stroudsburg (Sr. / G)

Nwaniemeka averaged 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.0 blocks while shooting 48.0 percent (12-for-25) overall, 5-for-12 from 3 and 4-for-5 at the foul line in 2-0 week for East Stroudbsurg. The Warriors (13-3, 9-3) have won 7 straight (6 vs PSAC). Nwaniemeka had 22 points (season-high), five rebounds, two assists, and three steals in 19 minutes in 102-62 win vs Mansfield. He recroded 11 points, four rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks in 86-75 win vs Kutztown Saturday. A preseason All-PSAC East selection, he leads ESU with 13.4 ppg (Warriors were only team in top 40 in DII in scoring last week without player averaging 14 ppg). Nwaniemeka is first in minutes (28.9), third in rebounds (2.8), second in assists (2.4), third in steals (21), and second in blocks (9). He has 974 career points at ESU (985 collegiate points including 11 at Rider in 2012-13). 
 
 

Men's Basketball: Eastern Division Freshman of the Week 
6144 Anthony Lee

Willow Grove, Pa. / Abington

Lee averaged 22.5 points last week while shooting 60.9 percent from the field and making 14-of-16 free throws. He shot .609 from 3-point range and also averaged 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game. Against Philadelphia on Wednesday, he shot 6-of-8 from the field and made all four free throws for 17 points and five rebounds. At ESU on Saturday, he scored a career-high 28 points with six rebounds. He shot 8-for-15 from the field (started 8-12), made 2-of-4 3-pointers and 10-of-12 free throws. He has scored in double figures in five straight, a span in which he is averaging 20.2 points per game. He would be leading the PSAC in FG percentage at 61.7, as he improved his FG/game to 4.63, nearing the PSAC minimum of 5.0. 
 

Men's Basketball: Western Division Athlete of the Week 
6257 Rob Agurs

Agurs was dominant for the Golden Eagles last week, helping them to a win over Slippery Rock on Wednesday and keeping them close against IUP on Saturday. He averaged 26.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game in the two contests, shooting 17-of-30 (.567) from the field as well. Agurs started the week with an excellent effort against The Rock at home, scoring a game-high 30 points on 10-of-17 from the field and 10-of-12 from the free throw line. He also added six rebounds and five steals in the win. Agurs scored 23 points and hauled in a team-high nine rebounds against the Crimson Hawks on Saturday, shooting 7-of-13 from the field.

 

Men's Basketball: Wester Division Freshman of the Week

Lombardi scored a season-high 19 points against Clarion on Saturday. It was the fifth game this season in which he scored in double figures. He also tied his season-high with six assists at Pitt-Johnstown. The Crimson Hawks are in first place in the PSAC West and have won seven straight contests.
 

Women's Basketball: Eastern Division Athlete of the Week 
6147 Morgan Griffith

Hollidaysburg, Pa. / Hollidaysburg Area

Shippensburg has now won 10-in-a-row, led by Griffith, who is claiming this accolade for the second consecutive week. On Wednesday at Lock Haven, Griffith played all 45 minutes of an overtime game and produced her eighth double-double of the season, totaling 22 points on 8-of-23 shooting to go along with 11 rebounds and career highs of four assists and five steals. Griffith recorded four assists for the second straight game and the fifth time in her career. On Saturday against Cheyney, she hauled in her ninth double-double of the season. Griffith led Shippensburg in points (24), rebounds (10) and assists (4) on the day, while tying for the team lead with two steals. Over her last seven games, Griffith is averaging 18.6 points and 11.4 rebounds per game while leading the team with 18 steals in that span. Griffith averaged 23 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. She is fourth in the PSAC in scoring and third in rebounding
 

Women's Basketball: Eastern Division Freshman of the Week

Powell averaged 8.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg and had one assist and two steals in 2-0 week for East Stroudsburg. The Warriors (8-8, 6-6) have won 7 of their last 8. Powell recorded 16 points, five rebounds (season-high), an assist, and two steals in a 79-65 win vs Mansfield. She is averaging 6.2 ppg (4th on team) in 14 games. 
 

Women's Basketball: Western Division Athlete of the Week
6258 Seairra Barrett

Center Twp., Pa. / Central Valley

Barrett recorded a pair of double-doubles and averaged 13.5 points and 16.5 rebounds, as the Vulcans won a pair of divisional games to move into a tie for second place in the PSAC West standings. She also collected a combined six assists, six steals and two blocks during the week. Barrett scored 16 points and added 15 rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 64-58 win over then-PSAC West leading Gannon on Wednesday. The 6-foot-0 sophomore then established a career high with 18 rebounds (seven offensive) and tallied 11 points, four assists and four steals on Saturday in a 64-52 victory at Slippery Rock.
 
 

Women's Basketball: Western Division Freshmand of the Week

Ana Hollen scored a career-high 23 points in overtime win vs. IUP on January 13. In addition to being the most points scored in her young career, 23 points was also a game-high effort in the UPJ victory. Hollen played 37 minutes in the win, going 7-for-13 from the floor and 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.
 
 

Wrestler of the Week
6255 Christopher Matthews

Matthews, ranked No. 4 at 174 pounds in NCAA Division II Super Region One, went 2-0 against regionally-ranked opponents last weekend. Matthews began a road trip with a 5-2 victory against fifth-ranked Joe Welk during a 22-20 dual victory at East Stroudsburg. He produced the second of four straight wins to end the match as Gannon rallied from a 20-6 deficit. Matthews ended the weekend with a 9-5 victory against sixth-ranked Joseph Balboni during a dual meet at Kutztown. He led Balboni 7-2, before settling for a 9-5 win. Matthews gave Gannon a 6-0 team lead at the time. He improved to 11-8 overall and 2-0 in dual competition this season. Four of Matthews losses have come against NCAA Division I opponents. 
 

Women's Swimmer of the Week
6267 Anastasiia Semkiv

Ternopil, Ukraine

Semkiv had three victories at Tiffin on Saturday. Semkiv won the 50 yard freestyle at 25.40. Won 100 yard freestyle at 59.57. Teamed up with Morgan Joseph, Holly Stein and Breanna Purnell to take the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.92.

Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
6265 Ryan Thompson

Slippery Rock, Pa. / Slippery Rock

Thompson won the mile run at the Al Hall Freedom Games hosted by Edinboro with the fastest time in the PSAC so far this year at 4:18.77. His time also ranks 24th fastest among all NCAA Division II athletes so far this season. Thompson currently owns the fastest mile and 3,000-meter times in the PSAC so far this season.
 

Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week 
6266 William Berry
East Stroudsburg (Sr./ High Jump)
Magnolia, Del. / Caesar Rodney

Berry posted a mark of 7-0 1/2 in the high jump (2nd-best in DII this year), hitting NCAA provisional qualifier and just missing automatic qualifier, on Friday at Kutztown. He broke the school record he shared at 6-11 3/4 (set in 2014 at Kutztown). Berry is a two time defending PSAC outdoor champ and a two time runner-up indoors. Berry was named to the All-America 2nd team outdoors last spring. Berry is a three time national qualifier. He is East Stroudburg's first 7-0 high jumper. 

Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week 
5793 Leah Anne Wirfel

Portage, Pa. / Forest Hills

Wirfel won the mile at the Al Hall Freedom Games hosted by Edinboro with the PSAC's fastest time at 5:10.86. She beat the second fastest runner in the PSAC so far in teammate Jenny Picot, who took 2nd. Wirfel's mile time is the 19th fastest among all Division II runners so far this season. She currently owns the fastest mile and 3,000-meter times in the league this year.
 

Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week 
6155 Sabrina Anderson
Slippery Rock (Jr. / Multi)
Warren, Pa. / Warren Area

Anderson shattered her own SRU record and nearly reached the all-time PSAC record in winning the pentathlon at the Al Hall Freedom Games. Her final score of 3,735 points is more than 550 points better than the second best mark in the PSAC this year. It ranks fifth in the nation and is just off an NCAA automatic qualifying performance. Along the way, Anderson also hit the NCAA provisional mark in the high jump with a clearance of 1.69 meters, the 2nd best in the PSAC and 11th best in the country. Her performances in four of the five events rank in the top seven in the PSAC: 60 hurdles - 9.09 seconds (#3 in PSAC), High Jump - 1.69 meters (#2 in PSAC), Long Jump - 5.35 meters (#5 in PSAC), 800m run - 2:25.76 (#7 in PSAC) and she hit four PSAC qualifying standards out of the five events contested.
