Lock Haven, Pa. – Seven different Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference institutions have claimed Top Team GPA Awards for the 2014-15 academic year, announced today by PSAC Commissioner Steve Murray. Now in their fourth year of existence, the awards are issued across 21 sports.

The awards, released at the conclusion of the academic year, honor the teams with the top cumulative team grade point average in each of the sponsored sports within the PSAC. The league hosts 23 championships, however, for the award purposes, indoor and outdoor track & field are counted as a single sport.

Seton Hill led all schools with nine of its teams – baseball, men’s and women's basketball, women's cross country, women's golf, men's and women’s soccer, women's tennis, and women's track and field – earning top team GPAs among their sports groups. Mercyhurst laid claim to four sports: football, women’s lacrosse, men’s tennis, and wrestling. West Chester secured three sports, while Gannon captured two. IUP, Shippensburg, and Slippery Rock each clinched one apiece.

It is the first appearance on the list for West Chester and Shippensburg.

Of the winning totals, 16 teams registered a GPA of at least 3.4, three more teams than a year ago. Seton Hill's women’s tennis team's 3.940 average was the league's highest cumulative GPA this year. It is also the highest team GPA since the awards began after the 2011-12 season. Seton Hill also had the second highest team GPA, with the women’s cross country earning a 3.830 average. 11 teams are repeat winners from 2013-14. Gannon’s men’s cross country team, Slippery Rock’s field hockey team, Gannon’s softball team, and Mercyhurst’s men’s tennis team have now won the Top Team GPA Award in all four years of its existence.

Following the release of the 2014-15 cumulative GPAs, 11 league institutions recorded an increase in cumulative GPAs. Overall, the average GPA for the entire PSAC increased by .58%, from 3.09 to 3.108.

Seton Hill held the institution-high GPA average of 3.44. Seton Hill had eight teams above the 3.5 threshold to lead 24 teams across the PSAC that established a 3.5 or better cumulative GPA.
