Millersville Story )
Butler, Pa. - Millersville pounded out 17 hits and took advantage of some early East Stroudsburg miscues to claim a 13-4 victory in the PSAC Championship Game. The win marked the Marauders first league title in 17 years.
Millersville opened the scoring in the top half of the first posting both of its runs with two outs. Dan Stoltzfus got the offense started with a single, which scored Chas McCormick on a ball that was misplayed in right field. Jeremy Musser doubled in Stoltzfus to post a lead Millersville would never relinquish.
East Stroudsburg cut the lead in half during the bottom half of the first with a Connor Crookham solo home run. However, a pair of errors in the third proved detrimental as Millersville took advantage and pushed across three more runs, two of which came across with a two-out single off the bat of Mitch Stoltzfus.
The Warriors again responded in the bottom half, powered by a Casey Saverio double, a Crookham sacrifice fly and an RBI double from Ian Allen. At that point Millersville turned to Reid Anderson out of the bullpen, who stranded Warrior runners and second and third. Anderson went on to shut down East Stroudsburg, picking up the win after giving up only three hits over the next four innings.
Millersville would break the game open by adding a run in the fifth inning and posting four and three in the sixth and seventh, respectively. Mitch Stoltzfus and PSAC Tournament MVP David Summerfield led the Maruader attack with three hits apiece. Summerfield went 10-for-19 over the four-game span, scoring eight runs, and posting six RBI, a a home run and four doubles.
By winning the PSAC Tournament, Millersville earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament scheduled for May 14-17 at a site to be determined.
