Game Notes

Bloomsburg

The Huskies beat Lock Haven, 31-28, in 2 overtimes. It's the second time this season the Huskies went to overtime, the first time in school history with multiple OT games in one season. Tailback Lawrence Elliott Jr had another big game with career-highs in carries (37) and yards (271). It's the second straight week Elliott has set a career-high for yards rushing in a game. The 271 yards rushing is the fifth-best single game rushing total in school history. Quarterback Tim Kelly had his best day passing with 201 yards passing against LHU. Kelly now needs 90 yards in his final game next week to become the school's all-time leader in passing yards. Eric Miller is all-time leader with 7,474 yards. Bloomsburg extended its winning streak over the Bald Eagles to six straight games. Bloomsburg needs a win over Seton Hill to extend its PSAC record of 16 consecutive years with at least seven wins in a season.

California

The Vulcans closed divisional play with a 31-21 victory over Mercyhurst to finish third in the PSAC West standings with 5-2 league mark. The Golden Eagles were without the services of top running back Delrece Williams who was out with an injury. Clarion started the season 7-0, the best start for the program since 1983. First year head coach Chris Weibel is having an outstanding season leading the Eagles. Wide receiver Matt Lehman caught a TD pass at SRU on Saturday and set the new single season mark at 14, breaking the old record set by Alvin Slaughter in 1998. Lehman has 883 receiving yards in 9 games – and can become only the third player in Clarion history to reach 1,000 yards if he gets 117 on Saturday at Kutztown. Williams, meanwhile, needs 100 rushing yards to reach 1,000. Only four other players have reached 1,000 yards – the last was Alfonso Hoggard in 2010 and 2009. Clarion travels to Kutztown on Saturday for the season finale. The two teams combined for 76 points and 1,042 yards in KU’s 41-35 overtime win.

Junior Mike Zanders moved into Gannon's all-time top 10 in tackles, finishing the game with 251 career stops. Mendieta reached the 100-career tackle plateau during his second season. Wiechelt cracked Gannon's all-time top 20 in tackles, jumping four players and moving into a tie for 16th place with Joe Dipre (2004-05) and Todd Proper (1996-99) with 216 career tackles. Senior Brock Jones became the sixth Golden Knight to record 1,000 rushing yards in a season and the second to accomplish it twice. Jones moved into a tie with Gannon Hall of Famer Darmel Whitfield (2001-04) for second place all-time with 210 career points and needs two touchdowns during the regular-season finale to tie Jon Richardson's (2006-09) school record. Wiechelt became the eighth Golden Knight in school history to record 100 tackles in a season and can tie Pat Rodkey's single-season record (120 in 1996) with 15 tackles during next week's regular-season finale.

IUP will now play Cheyney this coming Saturday, as the Crimson Hawks' original opponent, West Chester, will play Slippery Rock in the PSAC Championship game.

Kutztown

Defeated Shippensburg, 51-27

Lock Haven

The LHU football team dropped a heartbreaker in Week 10 at Bloomsburg. Looking for their first win over Bloomsburg since 2003, LHU fell 31-28 in double-OT to the Huskies, the preseason PSAC East favorite. LHU got another record-setting day from QB Caleb Walton. Walton threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns. He completed 24 of 43 passes. Entering the game, Walton needed just one TD pass to break the all-time single-season record for touchdown passes. He now has 21 on the season. Yesterday marked Walton’s 14th career game with 200-plus passing yards and his third career game over 300. His 312 passing yards today also push him over 2,000 for the second the consecutive season and surpass his career-mark of 2,164 set last season. Walton’s 2,219 yards are the fourth-most in school history for a single season. Walton now has 45 career TD passes, No. 2 all-time and 5,539 yards, No. 2 all-time. Yesterday marked Lock Haven’s first OT game since the 2007 season-finale at Clarion. Luke Erdman (center) started his 40th career/consecutive game vs. Kutztown. Erdman has started every game since Week 4 of his freshman year in 2012.

Mercyhurst

Mercyhurst had its three-game win streak against California (Pa) snapped in a 31-21 loss. The two teams are now even in the all-time series, 4-4. The Lakers head to Shippensburg for the season finale and need a win to avoid their first losing season since 2011. A win would also be the 75th at the helm for head coach Marty Schaetzle. The Lakers have played Ship three times in program history, all since becoming members of the PSAC in 2008. Mercyhurst owns a 2-1 mark against the Red Raiders, but has yet to win at Seth Grove Stadium. Red Raiders’ wide receiver Sheldon Mayer set a Mercyhurst opponent record with his 14 receptions last year in the Lakers 42-21 home victory.

Millersville

Millersville did not allow an offensive score against Cheyney, marking the second time this season the defense did not allow a single point in regulation. The 191 yards of total offense allowed to Cheyney was the best single-game performance by a Marauder defense since holding Mansfield to 118 in the 2006 season finale. Sene Polamalu picked up a half sack against Cheyney, boosting his total to a team-leading 5.0, which is the most by a Marauder since Nick Reynolds’ 7.0 in 2001. Polamalu also led the team in sacks as a freshman in 2014, making him the first Marauder since Jarrod Linn (2006-07) to lead the team in sacks in back-to-back seasons and just the sixth since 1979 to accomplish the feat. His 9.0 sacks through 21 career games are the most since Millersville Hall of Famer Scott Martin totaled 10 as a freshman and sophomore in 1990-91.
Wide receiver Kevin Wiggins has caught fire over the last three weeks, catching eight touchdown passes and 22 total catches for 267 yards. Wiggins has caught at least two passes in all nine games he has played this season and in 20 consecutive dating back to the start of his freshman season.

The last SRU loss at home came in the final game of the 2012 season. SRU is now 28-4 at home since the beginning of the 2010 season. SRU won the PSAC West for the 3rd straight time and the 15th time in program history. It is the eighth PSAC West title for Mihalik. SRU will play in the PSAC title game for the third straight year. The Rock have won the last six meetings with Clarion and all six "Milk Jug" games. The 65 points are the most SRU has ever scored against Clarion and the most either team has ever scored in the series. SRU honored 19 senior players and one manager in a pregame ceremony Saturday. Those seniors won three PSAC West titles in their four-year careers. Dutrieuille's 91-yard punt return was the first SRU punt return for a TD since 2013 against Bloomsburg. It is the believed to be the longest punt return TD in school history based on available records. Durden's 17 rushing TDs rank fourth in single-season history at SRU. Nania's 19 TD passes rank sixth in single-season history. Durden has scored 102 points this season, fourth most in program history. SRU broke the program record for rushing TDs in a season and now has 39 in 10 games. Greene now has 3,193 career rushing yards and moves up to fifth all-time at SRU. Dutrieuille's 17th career receiving TD moves him up to fifth all-time at SRU. He is now 18 yards away from 2,000 career receiving yards. Martin's 2.0 sacks give him 25.0 sacks in 22 games and move him up to third on the all-time list at SRU. He also has 35.0 tackles for loss and moves up to 10th on the all-time list at SRU.

West Chester

West Chester's win over East Stroudsburg moved the Rams to 59-22 overall against the Warriors and was the third straight win in the series. West Chester's win, coupled with Kutztown's 51-27 win over Shippensburg Saturday, puts the Golden Rams into the "State Game" for the first time since 2008. West Chester is 6-8 in the conference championship game and 2-3 against Slippery Rock. The Golden Rams have lost the last six times it has played for the conference crown in a championship game. West Chester has not won the "State Game" since 1971 (35-14 vs. Edinboro). PK Brendan Paulison has made his last nine FG attempts. He has not missed since the Millersville game (44 yards). He is 11 of 12 on the year and a perfect 11-for-11 under 40 yards. QB Pat Moriarty's 26 TD passes ranks tied for third in the PSAC this year and tied for ninth all-time in a single season at WCU. It also marks the fourth straight year in which a WCU QB has thrown for at least 26 touchdowns in a season.
