Shippensburg, Pa. – Shippensburg’s men’s outdoor track and field team set a new PSAC Championship team points record, as the Raiders dominated the competition and won the 2014 PSAC Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday at Seth Grove Stadium.
 
The Raiders finished the three-day meet with 278 points. Shippensburg also held the previous record with 184.5 points set in 2012. The conference title is the sixth consecutive for the Raiders. They are the first team to win at least six straight since West Chester claimed eight consecutive crowns from 1950-57. Shippensburg has now won 22 total men’s outdoor track and field league titles.
 
East Stroudsburg finished a distant second with 104 points, while Slippery Rock finished third with 90 points.
 
Robert Bales of Shippensburg clinched an NCAA provisional mark and the PSAC title in the 400m dash with a 47.97 time and placed second to teammate Matthew Kujawski (21.97) in the 200m dash with a time of 21.99. Bales was named the PSAC Men’s Most Outstanding Athlete of the Championship.
 
California’s Aaron Dinzeo won his second race of the championship. He took first in the 5000m run with a time of 14:30.50. Dinzeo also won the 10K on Thursday and was named the PSAC Men’s Most Outstanding Track Athlete of the Championship.
 
Slippery Rock’s David Reinhardt was named the PSAC Men’s Most Outstanding Field Athlete of the Championship after placing in all four of his throwing events. He was fourth in the javelin, third in the discus, eighth in the shot put, and fifth in the hammer throw.
 
Eric Bologa of Shippensburg was one of four NCAA provisional marks in the 400m hurdle finals and took first with a time of 52.41. Teammate Romarr Mayne sprinted the 100m dash in 10.70 to take first.
 
Shippensburg’s 4x100m squad took first with a combined time of 41.89, while the SHIP 4x800m relay team took first with a time of 7:46.85. Shippensburg swept the relays with a win in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:12.05 that broke the previous PSAC Championship record by .06.
 
Mansfield’s Mike Robinson clinched gold in the 1500m run with a time of 3:59.67.

East Stroudsburg’s Steven Morgan placed first in the 110m hurdles finishing in 14.69.
 
Shippensburg’s Ryan Hart launched the discus 50.20m (164’ 8”) to earn an NCAA provisional mark and first place at the championship.
 
Kutztown’s Tyler Brooks won the triple jump with an NCAA provisional mark of 14.81m (48’ 7 ¼”).
 
Slippery Rock’s Tyler Kachelries won the javelin with a distance of 65.46m (214’ 9”).

Shippensburg, Pa. – Shippensburg clinched its fifth-straight PSAC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday following three grueling days of competition at Seth Grove Stadium.
 
The Raiders compiled 112 points, edging out Slippery Rock by just two points. Millersville finished third with 90 points and Edinboro fourth with 82.
 
The PSAC title is the eighth in Shippensburg program history, and it is the narrowest point margin for first-place since Kutztown won the PSAC title in 1997 with 98 points and Slippery Rock held 97.
 
Shippensburg clinched the PSAC crown thanks to a first-place finish by its 4x400m relay team. The Raiders combined for a time of 3:47.18 to secure the team’s ­­­­­fifth straight league title.
 
Edinboro’s Tabitha Bemis took first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.97. Bemis also won the triple jump for the third year in a row with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 12.77m (41’ 10 ¾”).  Bemis was named the PSAC Women’s Most Valuable Athlete and Field Athlete of the Championship.
 
IUP’s Krista Matsko placed first in the 400m hurdles with a mark of 1:00.02 and second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.19. Matsko was named the PSAC Women’s Most Valuable Track Athlete of the Championship, marking IUP’s first women’s outstanding track athlete since 2002.
 
Shippensburg’s Megan Lundy was one of three competitors in the 400m dash to land NCAA provisional marks. Lundy won the event with a time of 55:17.
 
Slippery Rock’s 4x100m relay team won with a combined time of 46.88 to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championship.
 
The Rock’s Jasmine Bailey won the 200 dash with a time of 25.34, while The Rock’s Julia Cain took first in the pole vault with a height of 3.87m (12’ 8 ¼”).  Teammate Sam Taylor hurled the javelin 47.40m (155’ 6”) for first at the league championship and an NCAA automatic qualifying distance.
 
California’s Alex Zanella posted a 4:36.57 time in the 1500m run to take first place. Teammate Julia Friend took first in the 5000m run with a time of 17:28.99. 
 
Millersville’s Kiara Allen won the 100m dash in 11.79, while her 4x800m relay team combined for a time of 9:16.53 to win gold.
 
East Stroudsburg’s Christina O’Connor took first in the high jump with a mark of 1.72m (5’ 7 ¾”).
 
Kutztown’s Nicole Wildermuth placed first in the discus throw with a distance of 41.0m (134’ 6”).

CHAMPIONSHIP DAY TWO RECAP
 
Men
Shippensburg, Pa. – Through nine scored events and two days of competition Shippensburg leads the men’s team rankings with 116 points at the 2014 PSAC Track and Field Championship hosted by Shippensburg University.
 
Kutztown is in second with 53 points, while Slippery Rock holds 38 in third.  
 
Shippensburg’s Grant Smith placed first in the shot put with a NCAA provisional mark of 16.84m (55’ 3.0”).
 
Kutztown’s Zach Fleming won the 3000m steeplechase with a NCAA provisional time of 9:05.36. Teammate Lanny Buck took first in the pole vault with a height of 5.02m (16’ 5 ½”). Richard Gatewood of Kutztown won the men’s long jump with a NCAA provisional mark of 7.44m (24’ 5.0”).
 
East Stroudsburg’s Travis Toth won the hammer throw with a distance of 60.62m (198’ 11”), while teammate Will Berry won the high jump with a clearance of 2.09m (6’ 10 ¼”).
 
IUP’s Joe Lynch won the men’s 800m run with a time of 1:53.48.
 
Women
Shippensburg, Pa. – Edinboro currently leads the women’s team rankings following two days of competition at the 2014 PSAC Track and Field Championship hosted by Shippensburg University.
 
Edinboro’s Brianne Dietrich won the heptathlon with 4624 points. She won the women’s 200m dash with a time of 25.73, and the long jump with a distance of 5.75m (18’ 10 ½”).
 
Teammate Allison Gibbens won the 800m run with a time of 2:14.88, while Tabitha Bemis of Edinboro won the women’s long jump with a leap of 5.97m (19’ 7”).
 
West Chester’s Kayla Owens took first in the women’s shot put with a toss of 13.95m (45’ 9 ¼”).
 
IUP’s Samantha Thompson won the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:47.63.
 
Kutztown’s Rosealine Farrell earned gold in the women’s hammer throw with an NCAA provisional mark of 51.12m (167’ 8.0”).




PSAC CHAMPIONSHIP DAY ONE RECAP
 
Shippensburg, Pa. – Thursday’s session of the 2014 PSAC Track and Field Championships including the opening events of the men’s decathlon and women’s heptathlon and the men’s and women’s 10K were contested at Shippensburg University’s Seth Grove Stadium.
 
Bloomsburg’s Kate Dodds won the women’s 10K with a time of 37:10.51 to earned the Huskies 10 teams points.
 
California’s Aaron Dinzeo took gold in the men’s 10K with a time of 30:34.22.
 
Slippery Rock’s Sabrina Anderson currently leads the heptathlon competition with 2815 points.
 
Shippensburg’s Austin Strine sits in first in the men’s decathlon with 3458 points. 




PSAC OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW
 
The PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be contested at Shippensburg University’s Seth Grove Stadium from Thursday, May 1 through Saturday, May 3.
 

WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP
 
Shippensburg has owned the PSAC Outdoor Track and Field hardware for the past four years and has seven total titles to its name. Slippery Rock boasts the most titles in the league with 17. Prior to the Raiders winning in 2010, The Rock had won the crown the previous four seasons.
 
Starting with sprints, Millersville’s Kiara Allen owns the top seed in both the 100m (12.04) and 200m dash (24.96). Last season’s 100m and 200m dash winner Danielle Smith of East Stroudsburg is seeded fourth in the 100 (12.21) and third in the 200 (25.08).
 
Shippensburg’s Megan Lundy will look to capture the 400m title with the PSAC’s top seed at 55.68. A year ago Lundy took second with a time of 56.56.
 
Slippery Rock’s Janine Powis has the top seed in the 800m run with a time of 2:13.21, while teammate Jenny Picot sits with the top seed in the 5000m run (17:17.17).
 
California’s Summer Hill, the 2014 PSAC Women’s Indoor Championship’s Most Valuable Track Athlete, owns the 1500m No. 1 seed with a time of 4:25.92 – nearly 11 seconds faster than her teammate Alex Zanella’s second-seed time of 4:36.10.
 
Seton Hill’s Jeannie Bujdos is slated in the No. 1 spot in the 10000m run (36:39.96) that will be contested on Thursday evening.
 
Edinboro’s Tabitha Bemis will race in the 100m hurdles as the top seed with a mark of 14:15. Last season Bemis too second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.30. Bemis is also seeded atop the competition in both the long jump (6.01m) and third in the triple jump (11.5m). Bemis took gold last season in the triple jump with a mark of 12.17m.
 
Millersville’s Erin Madison and IUP’s Krista Matsko are neck-and-neck for the top seed at the 400m hurdles. Madison holds a time of 1:01.02 heading into the weekend, while Matsko owns the second seed with a time of 1:01.13.
 
IUP’s Samantha Thompson is the 3000m steeplechase’s top seed at 10:52.07, edging 2013 steeplechase champion Victoria Davis of Bloomsburg. Davis won the event a year ago with a time of 10:34.52.
 
Slippery Rock’s 4x100m squad is slated first with a combined time of 47.24, while Shippensburg’s 4x400m team holds a PSAC-best 3:48.83 time. East Stroudsburg holds the top 4x800m relay time at 9:33.61.
 
In the field events, Kutztown’s Rachel Eshleman and Brittany Whitmer of Lock Haven both hold PSAC-leading 1.7m marks in the high jump. Eshleman won the event last season with a height of 1.73m.
 
The Rock’s Julia Cain posted a clearance of 3.86m in the pole vault to own the top seed. Cain placed fourth last season with a 3.59m height. Teammate Kaitlyn Clark is seeded second with 3.81m and won the event in 2013 with the same height.
 
Raider Elizabeth Ross holds the shot put’s top seed with a 13.29m mark, while teammate Brianna Davis is atop the competition in the discus with a 44.44m distance.
 
Millersville’s Vanessa Hower is seeded first in the hammer throw with a 52.49m mark, while Slippery Rock’s Sam Taylor is first in the javelin with a 48.34m mark.

Edinboro’s Brianne Dietrich is seeded first in the heptathlon with 4906 points. Dietrich won the multi-event last year with 4588 points.
 

MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP
 
The Shippensburg Raiders have won the last five PSAC Men’s Outdoor Track and Field titles. The Raiders boast 21 overall conference outdoor track and field titles, while West Chester holds the most in the league with 24.
 
Shippensburg’s Matthew Kujawski owns the league’s top seed in the 100m dash with a time of 10.77, while also holding the No. 1 seed time in the 200m dash (21.87). M. Kujawski won the 200 last season with a time of 21.52.
 
East Stroudsburg’s Damien Boham is looking to repeat as the PSAC 400m champion with the top seed time of 47.95. Boham won last season with a time of 47.66.
 
Shippensburg’s Tom Kehl is ranked first in the 800m run with a time of 1:53.03, while teammate Brayden Burleigh is ranked first in the 1500m run with a time of 3:46.33.
 
California’s Aaron Dinzeo and Lock Haven’s Alex Monroe will duke it out for the 5000m run title. Dinzeo is seeded first with a time of 1404.49, while Monroe is second at 14:09.37. Monroe won the race last year with a time of 14:45.62. Dinzeo also owns the top seed in the 10000m run (28:40.88), while Monroe is second (29:55.96).
 
Seton Hill’s Terry Jackson is the top seed in the 100m hurdles with a seed time of 14.61, while Shippensburg’s Eric Bologa is first in the 400m hurdles (52.53).
 
Kutztown’s Zach Fleming ranks first in the 3000m steeplechase with a seed time of 8:59.98. Fleming placed second in the event last season with a time of 9:11.04.
 
Shippensburg’s 4x100m relay team holds a combined seed time of 41.59 to rank first, while its 4x400m relay is first with a time of 3:13.83. The Raiders also own the top seed in the 4x800m relay with a time of 7:47.08.
 
Raider Jalen Ramsey is ranked first with a mark of 2.09m in the high jump. Last season Ramsey placed second at the conference championship with a height of 2.03m.
 
Kutztown’s Lanny Buck holds the top spot in the men’s pole vault with a mark of 4.95m. He placed second at the 2013 championship with a clearance of 4.76m.
 
Shippensburg’s LeQuan Chapman is seeded first in both the long jump (7.48m) and triple jump (14.44m). Last season Chapman was second in the long jump (7.07m).
 
Teammate Grant Smith owns the top seed in the shot put at 17.53m, while Ryan Hart is the top seeded discus thrower with a distance of 52.51m.
 
East Stroudsburg’s Travis Toth is seeded first in the hammer throw with a mark of 57.94m. Last year Toth took second in the event with a distance of 56.34m.
 
Slippery Rock’s David Reinhardt is seeded first in the javelin with a mark of 64.50m.
 
Shippensburg’s Austin Strine will look to repeat as the PSAC decathlon champion, as he holds the top seed with 6416 points. Last year Strine won the PSAC title with 6380 points.
