Lock Haven, Pa. – No. 7 Lock Haven won the 2014 PSAC Lacrosse Championship today with a 9-7 win over No. 8 Mercyhurst on Saturday, May 3 in Lock Haven, Pa.
The championship was Lock Haven's (17-2) seventh in school history and first since 2011.
It marked LHU's second win this year over Mercyhurst (16-3) as The Haven beat the tournament's No. 2 seed, 10-8 in overtime in early April.
Today's victory also helped Lock Haven runs its win streak to 15 games. The Lady Eagles started the year 2-2, but haven't lost since March 23.
Leading the way today for the top-seeded Lady Eagles was Kelly Hamilton, who netted the hat trick.
Hamilton was named the PSAC Tournament MVP as she was brilliant over the last two games. Hamilton added three key draw controls in today's win to go along with a two-goal, one-assist effort in yesterday's semifinal victory.
Jessica Pandolf added two goals and one assist in today's win.
Jenna Dingler and Chelsea Borrino each scored twice today for Lock Haven.
Mercyhurst was led by Becca Himes, who had three goals today.
Lock Haven led 6-4 at halftime, thanks to a late first-half surge.
With the game tied 3-3, Hamilton scored her first goal of the game to make it 4-3. Borrino added two goals in the final 7:55 minutes of the first period, helping The Haven to the lead.
The Lady Eagles struck twice early in the second half and LHU's defense held strong, fighting off the Laker blitz in the final 10 minutes.
PSAC teams will now await tomorrow's NCAA Division II Selection Show. The 2014 NCAA DII Women's Lacrosse Tournament Field will be unveiled tomorrow night at 8 p.m.

Lock Haven was ranked No. 3 in the NCAA Division II South Region rankings when they came out on Wednesday. The top four teams from each region in the final NCAA Regional Rankings – North and South are selected to the NCAA Tournament.
PSAC SEMIFINALS
Lock Haven Defeats West Chester in Semifinals
Lock Haven, Pa. – Lock Haven beat defending PSAC Champion West Chester in the 2014 PSAC Lacrosse Semifinals on Friday, May 2 in Lock Haven, Pa.
Lock Haven advances to play Mercyhurst on Saturday, May 3 at 1:00 p.m. for the PSAC Championship title.
The game was knotted at four at the break, but Lock Haven was able to pull away from the Golden Rams with back-to-back goals less than one minute apart.
Chelsea Borrino scored unassisted at the 26-minute mark, while
Kelly Hamilton earned her second goal of the game with 25:23 left in the game.
Caroline Kuckinsky notched West Chester’s only goal of the second half, before The Haven rattled-off four unanswered goals to win the game.
Borrino and
Rachel Ward finished with two goals apiece, as did Borrino.
Chrissy Baffuto played all 60 minute at goal for Lock Haven and registered five saves.
A year ago Lock Haven fell to West Chester in the PSAC Championship game 8-7. The Haven won conference titles three straight years 2009-11, with all three coming against West Chester.

Mercyhurst Advances to Conference Title Game
Lock Haven, Pa. – Mercyhurst’s
Jordan Mackenzie scored five goals to lead the Lakers to a 13-7 win over IUP on Friday afternoon in the 2014 PSAC Lacrosse Championship Semifinals in Lock Haven, Pa.
Mercyhurst advances to play Lock Haven on Saturday, May 3 at 1:00 p.m. for the PSAC Championship title.
Four of Mackenzie’s goals were in the second half, as Mercyhurst tallied nine of their 13 total goals in the second period.
Anna LeGrett and
Becca Himes each recorded two goals each, while Himes assisted three goals.
Rebecca Muscella played all 60 minutes in the cage for the Lakers and registered 10 saves.
Mercyhurst will be playing for the program’s first PSAC title, and in its second championship game in the last three seasons. Mercyhurst lost to Bloomsburg 15-9 in the title game in 2012.

PSAC QUARTERFINALS
West Chester Upsets Seton Hill
Greensburg, Pa. – No. 5 West Chester upset No. 4 Seton Hill 9-8 in the 2014 PSAC Lacrosse Quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon in Greensburg, Pa.
The Golden Rams will now play No. 1 Lock Haven on Friday, May 2 at 1:00 p.m. in the PSAC Semifinals.
Kelsey Gumbert and
Sarah Dennison each notched two goals, while
Madison Collins scored the game-winning goals with 1:29 left on the game clock. The Griffins were led by
Elizabeth Otwell’s hat trick.
West Chester, the defending PSAC Champion, will appear in the PSAC Semifinals for the 11
th straight year on Friday.
The Golden Rams improve to 12-4 on the season, while Seton Hill drops to 13-5.

IUP Outlasts Bloomsburg in Overtime
Indiana, Pa. – No. 3 IUP outlasted No. 6 Bloomsburg in a 12-11 overtime victory in the PSAC Lacrosse Quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon in Indiana, Pa.
IUP will now face No. 2 Mercyhurst in the PSAC Semifinals on Friday, May 2 at 4:00 p.m. on the campus of Lock Haven.
Brittney Palardy led IUP with four goals and an assist, while
Michelle Zakrzewski notched a hat trick. Zakrzewski notched both of IUP’s overtime goals including the game-winner with just 40 seconds left on the overtime clock.
Sarah Ward and
Alex Edwards both scored a pair of goals for IUP. Bloomsburg was led by
Julie Falk’s six goals.
The Crimson Hawks committed eight turnovers while causing 10 Bloomsburg turnovers.
IUP is playing in the PSAC Championship for the third straight season and have advanced to the semifinals for the second consecutive year.
The Crimson Hawks improved to 13-4 with the win, while Bloomsburg drops to 9-8.
