Bloomsburg Comeback Falls Short versus Concord
Athens, W. Va. – Bloomsburg’s second half comeback came up just short in the 2014 NCAA Division II Super Region One Championship game on Saturday afternoon, as the Huskies fell to Concord 32-26 in the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals.
Bloomsburg, who finishes the year with 11 victories, rallied from 21 points down at the break to tie the game at 23 in the third quarter. However Concord was able to put together a 74-yard response drive to take a 29-23 lead. A Concord field goal netted at the 9:15 mark in the fourth quarter put the game just out of the Huskies’ reach.
Eddie Mateo rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries while quarterback
Tim Kelly finished with 16 of 36 passing, 239 yards, a pass touchdown and a rush touchdown.
D.J. McFadden caught five passes for 97 yards and a score, while
Chad Hoffman had three catches for 68 yards.
The Huskies outgained Concord 396 yards to 306, but could not contain one of the nation’s top special teams as the Mountain Lions returned seven kickoffs for an average of 28.7 yards a touchdown.
PSAC East Defensive Player of the Year
Justin Shirk led the Huskies’ defense with 11 tackles, including eight solo stops.
Jerrin Toomey added five tackles and an interception in the loss.
Undefeated Concord moves onto the semifinals next weekend against Minnesota State Mankato.

NCAA SECOND ROUND
Bloomsburg Defeats Virginia state
Bloomsburg, Pa. – Bloomsburg defeated Virginia State 35-14 in the 2014 NCAA Division II Football Second Round on Saturday afternoon at Danny Hale Field at Redman Stadium.
With the victory, Bloomsburg will travel to play Concord for the Super Region One title on Saturday, December 6.
Eddie Mateo put the Huskies on the board first with a 21-yard run at the 4:01 mark in the first quarter. Mateo finished the day with 129 rushing yards.
Bloomsburg quarterback
Tim Kelly threw for 175 yards completing 12-of-20 passes. Kelly connected with
DJ McFadden for a 58-yard touchdown to put the Huskies up 14-7 with 11 minutes remaining in the half.
Kelly went on to find the endzone for three straight Bloomsburg touchdowns. With less than a minute to go in the half, Kelly ran six yards for a touchdown followed by a five-yard run at the 9:36 mark and a one-yard run at the 1:08 mark both in the third quarter.
PSAC East Defensive Player of the Year
Justin Shirk led the defense with 12 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a pair of pass breakups. The Bloomsburg defense finished the day with 8.0 sacks, while holding Virginia State to 267 offensive yards.
The victory marked the first postseason win for Bloomsburg since defeating California (PA) 28-26 in the first round in 2010. The Huskies are now 9-10 in the NCAA Tournament, including a 6-3 record at home.

West Chester Falls to Concord
Athens, W. Va. – Concord defeated West Chester 51-36 in the 2014 NCAA Division II Football Second Round on Saturday afternoon at Callaghan Stadium.
Concord will advance to the Super Region One final and will host Bloomsburg next Saturday.
The teams combined for 1,310 yards of total offense. West Chester’s
Sean McCartney threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns, while
Eddie Elliott ran for 116 yards and one touchdown and
Brandon Monk totaled 122 yards on the ground. Concord’s Cal Jones recorded 178 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Brian Novak threw for 388 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
West Chester took its first lead of the game with 19 seconds left in the half with a McCartney five-yard pass to
Shawn Driggins to put the Golden Rams up 28-24. However, Concord followed with 20 straight points to regain the lead and clinch the victory.
West Chester is the reigning Super Region One champion and is making its 13th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Golden Rams are now 9-11 in the NCAA Tournament and caps the 2014 season with an 11-2 overall record.

NCAA FIRST ROUND
West Chester Dominates Slippery Rock
West Chester, Pa. – West Chester defeated Slippery Rock 46-20 in the 2014 NCAA Division II Football First Round on Saturday afternoon in West Chester, Pa.
With the victory, West Chester will now travel to top-seeded Concord on Saturday, November 29 for a noon NCAA Second Round contest. The winner will play the victor of Bloomsburg and Virginia State on December 6 in the quarterfinals. Virignia State defeated LIU Post 28-17 in the first round to advance to face the Huskies.
The Golden Rams racked up 573 yards of total offense with 425 through the air. PSAC East Offensive Athlete of the Year
Sean McCartney completed 23 of 40 passes for 405 yards and five West Chester touchdowns. His favored target was
Tim Brown, who finished with 134 receiving yards three touchdown receptions.
West Chester’s defense allowed The Rock just 158 yards of offense comprised of 127 passing yards and 31 rushing yards – 200 yards less than their season average heading into the weekend. Slippery Rock’s quarterback
Zack Newsock threw for all three of The Rock’s touchdowns.
Andrew Cohen led the West Chester defense with nine tackles, including three for a loss of 11 yards and a pass breakup.
Ronell Williams finished with eight tackles and a pair of sacks.
Slippery Rock finishes its season with a 9-3 overall record, marking its sixth straight winning season.
West Chester is the reigning Super Region One champion and is making its 13th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Golden Rams have advanced beyond the Second Round twice (2013, 2004) and both times made it into the semifinals.

Indianapolis - Slippery Rock, West Chester and Bloomsburg gained entry into the 2014 NCAA Division II Football Championship tournament as part of a field of 24 teams, announced by the NCAA on Sunday evening.
No. 4-seed West Chester will host No. 5-seed and PSAC Champion Slippery Rock on Saturday, November 22 in the Super Region One First Round.
No. 2-seed Bloomsburg earned a First Round bye and will host the winner of No. 3 Virginia State and No. 6 LIU Post on November 29.
Quarterfinal winners will advance to play in the semifinals on the campus of one of the competing institutions.
All contests shall start at noon local time. Other times may be established if approved by the committee.
The championship will be held on December 20 in Kansas City, Mo.
