Ebensburg, Pa. / Central Cambria Max Kirsch of IUP medaled for the first time in his career with a three-over 147 at the Bud Elwell Fall Classic hosted by Gannon. The sophomore followed up his three-over 75 in the opening round on Sunday with an even par 72 on Monday. The 72 was the lowest qualifying score of the round. Kirsch finished two strokes ahead of players from Mercyhurst and Clarion to seal the win. The Crimson Hawks finished fourth overall as a team. Schedule/Results Women's Golfer of the Week Cara Vanderham California (Jr.) Innisfail, Alberta / Innisfail California’s Cara Vanderham tied for sixth place out of 87 golfers at the Bing-Beall Classic hosted by Findlay University on Monday. The junior posted the highest individual finish of her career at the event, shooting nine-over 153 (76-77). Vanderham finished only one stroke behind fourth place in a field that featured a pair of 2014 Division II Championship finalist teams as well as three East Region powerhouses. Schedule/Results Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week Ben Spencer Clarion (So.) Tunkhannock, Pa. / Tunkhannock Clarion’s Ben Spencer won four individual events to lead the Clarion to a 170-139 win on Saturday over Grove City. Spencer won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:07.48 and clinched a PSAC cut in the 400 individual medley with a 4:37.29 time. He also won the 100 backstroke (55.79) and the 200 backstroke (2:04.85) while earning PSAC cut times in each. Schedule/Results Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week Tess Hayward West Chester (So.) Elizabethtown, Pa. / Elizabethtown West Chester’s Tess Hayward led the Golden Rams to a season-opening tri-meet victory with three individual first place times along with two relay victories. She notched PSAC cut times in the 50 freestyle (25.12), 100 freestyle (53.91) and 200 freestyle (1:57.27). She also helped her 200 free relay team to a first place finish with a time of 1:41.79 and swam the anchor leg on her 800 free relay team that set a pool record with a time of 8:00.00. Schedule/Results Women's Volleyball Eastern Division Athlete of the Week Kendall Mahony Pitt-Johnstown (Fr. / MH) Yorktown, Va. / Grafton Kendall Mahony led Pitt-Johnstown in the PSAC East-West Crossover weekend. The freshman middle hitter racked up 47 kills, 18 blocks (three solo), 13 digs and five aces in UPJ's matches against four top-ranked West opponents. Mahony put-up career numbers against Edinboro, tallying 19 kills at a .472 hitting percentage, to go along with seven block assists. On the weekend, she averaged 2.76 kills per set, just under her season average of 2.82. Mahony currently leads the Lady Cats with 203 kills and 68 total blocks on the season. Women's Volleyball Western Division Athlete of the Week Megan Wendel Gannon (Sr. / S) Aurora, Ohio / Kenston Megan Wendel led Gannon to a 4-0 record at the PSAC East-West Crossover. The senior setter’s 186 assists helped her set a new school record for all-time career assists, bringing her career total to 3,771. Her weekend average of 13.29 assists per set is well above her PSAC-leading season average of 11.54. Wendel also added an assist-dig double-double in two out of the four weekend matches – 42 assists and 10 digs against Lock Haven, and 54 assists and 10 digs against Pitt-Johnstown. She totaled 34 digs, 11 kills, eight blocks, and six aces on the weekend. Wendel currently leads the Lady Knights in three statistical categories this season, including hitting percentage (.362), aces (19), and is third on the team in digs (161). Standings | Statistical Leaders | Schedule/Results Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week Aaron Dinzeo Calfornia (Sr.) Sidney, Ohio / Sidney California's Aaron Dinzeo claimed the individual title and broke the course record on Saturday while competing at the Mack Cooper Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock. The senior crossed the finish line in 24:45.2 to win the event, which featured 147 runners, by 40 seconds. His time eclipsed the previous course mark by six seconds. The Ohio native has earned the individual title in three of four races this fall. Schedule/Results Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week Meagan Carter Seton Hill (Jr.) Glenshaw, Pa. / Shaler Meagan Carter led Seton Hill to a second place tie and just one point out of first place at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational with an individual first place finish. Her 5k time of 18:26.2 was the best out of a field of 193, which featured runners from all three NCAA divisions. The Griffins and the University of Pittsburgh each finished with 60 points in a tie for second. Seton Hill finished the race with a total team time of 1:35.33. Schedule/Results Field Hockey Athlete of the Week Lauren Sotzin Millersville (Sr. / GK) Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin Millersville's Lauren Sotzin made eight saves--all in the two overtime sessions--to defeat Mercyhurst on the road in double overtime, 2-1. Sotzin made six saves in the first overtime period and two more in the second overtime to improve her season record to 9-0. She is the only unbeaten goalie in Division II and leads the nation in goals against average (0.44) and saves percentage (.879). She is also the career active leader in goals against (0.82) among all NCAA players regardless of division. Standings | Statistical Leaders | Schedule/Results Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week Spencer Conrad Bloomsburg (Jr. / M/F) Enola, Pa. / East Pennsboro Spencer Conrad of Bloomsburg scored both goals in a crucial conference victory over Gannon, which entered the day tied atop the PSAC standings. Conrad first scored in the 48th minute to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. The junior midfielder then punched-in the game-winning goal just 38 seconds into overtime to give Bloomsburg the 2-1 win. It was the first multi-goal game of Conrad's career. Standings | Statistical Leaders | Schedule/Results Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week Caitlin Binder Slippery Rock (Jr. / M) New Castle, Pa. / Neshannock No. 24 Slippery Rock's Caitlin Binder tallied three goals and an assist in a pair of PSAC wins. Binder began her week by registering a goal and an assist in The Rock's 3-0 win against Gannon before notching two goals in a 4-0 win at Mercyhurst. Her two-goal game against the Lakers was the first multi-goal game of her career. She was credited with the game winners in each contest to help propel Slippery Rock to a five game winning streak. Standings | Statistical Leaders | Schedule/Results Football: Eastern Division Offensive Athlete of the Week Trevor Harman Shippensburg (Sr. /WR) Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley Shippensburg senior Trevor Harman tied the all-time PSAC record for career receiving touchdowns in a 42-24 win at Lock Haven. Harman recorded 15 receptions against the Bald Eagles and now has 58 career receiving touchdowns to tie West Chester's Mike Washington. He totaled 97 yards with two touchdowns in the road win. He caught the Raiders' opening touchdown and also their final touchdown late in the third quarter. Football: Eastern Division Defensive Athlete of the Week Shaquil Ryder West Chester (So. / DT) Philadelphia, Pa. / Imhotep West Chester's Shaquil Ryder registered a career-high 10 tackles, recovered a fumble and posted one sack to lead No. 9 West Chester to a 29-7 win over Kutztown on the road Thursday night. Ryder registered three solo tackles and assisted on seven others. Kutztown came into the game averaging over 40 points per game and was held to less than 300 yards of total offense for the first time this season. Football: Western Division Offensive Athlete of the Week Brendan Boylan Mercyhurst (Jr. / QB) Independence, Ohio / Holy Name Redshirt junior quarterback Brendan Boylan completed 28-of-44 passes for a career-high 446 yards and a personal-best four touchdowns to lift Mercyhurst to its second consecutive victory – a 45-38 shootout win over crosstown-rival Gannon. The 446 passing yards by Boylan marked the first time since Travis Rearick threw for 424 yards against Kutztown in 2011 that a Laker quarterback surpassed the 400-yard mark in a game. Gannon entered the game leading the PSAC in total defense and scoring defense and ranked third overall in rushing and passing defense. Football: Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week Jawan Turner California (So. / DL) Pittsburgh, Pa. / Woodland Hills California's Jawan Turner helped anchor a Cal U defense that limited Slippery Rock to just 66 rushing yards, which was over 220 yards less than its season average. He finished the game with a career-high nine tackles, including six solo stops and recorded 1.5 tackles for a loss of 15 yards and one interception in a 48-26 victory over No. 19 Slippery Rock.
