Football: Eastern Division Offensive Athlete of the Week
Trevor Harman

Shippensburg senior Trevor Harman tied the all-time PSAC record for career receiving touchdowns in a 42-24 win at Lock Haven. Harman recorded 15 receptions against the Bald Eagles and now has 58 career receiving touchdowns to tie West Chester's Mike Washington. He totaled 97 yards with two touchdowns in the road win. He caught the Raiders’ opening touchdown and also their final touchdown late in the third quarter.

Shaquil Ryder

West Chester’s Shaquil Ryder registered a career-high 10 tackles, recovered a fumble and posted one sack to lead No. 9 West Chester to a 29-7 win over Kutztown on the road Thursday night. Ryder registered three solo tackles and assisted on seven others. Kutztown came into the game averaging over 40 points per game and was held to less than 300 yards of total offense for the first time this season.

Brendan Boylan

Redshirt junior quarterback Brendan Boylan completed 28-of-44 passes for a career-high 446 yards and a personal-best four touchdowns to lift Mercyhurst to its second consecutive victory – a 45-38 shootout win over crosstown-rival Gannon. The 446 passing yards by Boylan marked the first time since Travis Rearick threw for 424 yards against Kutztown in 2011 that a Laker quarterback surpassed the 400-yard mark in a game. Gannon entered the game leading the PSAC in total defense and scoring defense and ranked third overall in rushing and passing defense.

Jawan Turner

California’s Jawan Turner helped anchor a Cal U defense that limited Slippery Rock to just 66 rushing yards, which was over 220 yards less than its season average. He finished the game with a career-high nine tackles, including six solo stops and recorded 1.5 tackles for a loss of 15 yards and one interception in a 48-26 victory over No. 19 Slippery Rock.

Bloomsburg
The No. 12/13 Huskies (6-0, 5-0 PSAC) remained unbeaten with a 41-0 win over visiting Millersville.  The Huskies forced five turnovers and the defense has now generated 21 turnovers for the season. Donovan Morris had two interceptions while Garrett Pope added another pick along with a career-high eight tackles and a forced fumble. DJ Robinson also had an interception. Eddie Mateo rushed for three scores and now has a PSAC-leading 14 rushing touchdowns on the year and also became the sixth Huskies player to rush for 30+ career touchdowns, now with 32 for his time at BU. The Huskies have won their past two games by a combined score of 82-7 with Saturday's game being the first shutout by the BU defense since 2008 at Shippensburg. Next up is a trip to Kutztown as a crucial three-week stretch begins at Kutztown and then home vs. West Chester and East Stroudsburg.
 
California
Cal U posted its first victory over a nationally-ranked team since 2012 with a 48-26 victory over No. 19 Slippery Rock on Saturday. The Vulcans have won 10-straight Homecoming games, including three against Slippery Rock. Cal U snapped a three-game losing streak in the series with Slippery Rock. The Vulcans forced four turnovers and limited The Rock to only 66 rushing yards after entering play averaging 287.2 rushing yards/game. Cal U amassed 500 yards of total offense and scored 31 points in the second quarter. Junior QB James Harris passed for 326 yards and a career-high four touchdowns, including three in the first half. Sophomore WR Garry Brown finished with game highs of 111 receiving and nine catches, including two touchdowns. Sophomore RB Nick Grissom eclipsed the 100-yard mark for the second time this year, finishing with 121 rushing yards and one score on 21 attempts
 
Cheyney
Despite scoring a season high 21 points, Cheyney (0-6:0-5) fell to East Stroudsburg (5-1:4-1) 49-21. Khalil Rodgers rushed for a season high 100 yards on 17 carries. Quarterback Michael Campbell was 14-20 for 186 yards and two touchdowns. The 186 passing yards represents a season high for the Wolves. His favorite receiver on the night was Khalif Dandy who caught 11 passes for 146 including touchdowns of 21 and 14 yards. Cheyney was also credited with a season high 26 first downs. The Wolves return home next Saturday to face Lock Haven in a homecoming tilt. Kick-off is slated for 1:00 PM. The last time Cheyney won a homecoming contest was against Lock Haven (2007).
 
Clarion
Clarion dropped a disappointing 56-28 decision to Edinboro on Family Day last Saturday. QB Connor Simmons was back in the lineup after missing the Mercyhurst Game. He hit on 14 of 28 passes for 209 yards and 2 td’s… He has now passed for 635 yards and 5 td’s in 5 games this season. Bobby Thomas managed 21 rushing yards and now has 1,491 in his career on 354 carries. He ranks 12th on the all-time list – having recently passed Geoff alexander (1981-84) who had 1,475. Next up Glenn Lovelace (2001-2004) 1,558. Tight end Zach Deitrick had a breakout game with 3 catches for 92 yards and 2 td’s. He caught a 62-yarder on the first play from scrimmage and was tackled on the 1 or he would have had 3 td’s. All-America DE Julian Howsare continues to put up good numbers. He has 210 career tackles, 49 tfl’s, 33 sacks, 10 break-ups, 7 blocked kicks, 6 fumbles caused and 2 int’s. Clarion travels to Seton Hill next Saturday.
 
East Stroudsburg
ESU improved to 5-1 (4-1 PSAC) with its 4th straight win, building a 35-0 halftime lead on its way to a 49-21 win vs. Cheyney at Eiler-Martin Stadium. Head coach Denny Douds tied Lou Holtz for 20th on the NCAA all-division win list (249) and can become the 20th coach in NCAA history, and 3rd in DII history, with 250 career wins on Saturday at Millersville. R-Jr. QB Matt Soltes had the 4th-highest single-game pass efficiency rating in ESU history (278.7), going 12-for-18 for 258 yards and 5 TD. He threw for 208 yards and all 5 TD in the 1st half, and had his 6th career game with 5+ TD passes. He threw for 5 TD in the 1st half for the 2nd time in his career. Soltes threw TD’s on 3 straight passes in the 1st quarter. Soltes entered the PSAC top 10 in career total offense (9,299 yards) in his 24th career start. He ranks 11th with 79 career TD passes. He leads the PSAC in total offense (404.2 ypg), passing (359.7 ypg) and TD passes (24). R-So. TB Robert Healy scored 3 TD on 11 touches (8 carries, 98 yards, 2 TD; 3 catches, 48 yards). Healy has 501 rushing yards, 381 receiving yards and 10 total TD on 109 touches this season. He has 140+ yards from scrimmage in all 6 games, and an ESU record 11 consecutive games with 100+ yards from scrimmage (15 times in 17 career games). R-Sr. DE Brandon Gattelli had 2.5 sacks and leads the PSAC with 8.5 sacks through 6 games. ESU leads the PSAC with 24 sacks (4.0 per game). R-Sr. S Anthony Singlar had his 2nd career interception. Sr. P Jordan Bair continues to lead the PSAC in punting average (43.9). ESU ran just 43 offensive plays (gaining 410 yards) and held the ball for just 18:44, but scored TD on 7 of its first 9 possessions, including its first 5. ESU earned its 35 consecutive win over Cheyney, extending an NCAA all-division record for consecutive wins in an uninterrupted series. ESU holds a 58-1 advantage all-time with CU’s only win coming in 1979.
 
Edinboro
Edinboro came up with its first win of the season with a 56-28 win at Clarion. The defense forced five turnovers, with four being converted into touchdowns, and also had five sacks. That included a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown for senior defensive back Veuntrae Robinson. The defense limited Clarion to 245 yards, including just 36 yards rushing. Cody Harris threw four touchdown passes, giving him 14 touchdowns and just one interception. Three of Harris’ TDs went to Darren Massey, who also caught 3 TD passes vs. East Stroudsburg. The sophomore caught nine passes and now has 47 for the season, tied for 12th all-time. His 8 TDs are tied for seventh. Freshman tailback Anfreenee Williams scored the first two touchdowns of his career on runs of four and one yards, while fellow freshman Kolbe Hughes had a season-best 8 catches for 112 yards, including a 40-yard TD reception. Junior DE Domenic Principale has had one sack in each of the first six games. The Scots ran off 72 plays compared to 47 for Clarion. It led to a huge advantage in time of possession, as Edinboro totaled 39:59 with Clarion at 20:02. Edinboro was also 7 of 14 on 3rd down conversions and 3 of 3 on 4th downs. The 56 points are the most points scored by the Fighting Scots since the famous 84-63 loss to West Liberty in 2009. Edinboro will host Gannon on Thursday, October 16 in the annual Fighting Scots Fighting Cancer game. It marks the first Thursday night game at Sox Harrison Stadium since the 2008 season. 
 
Gannon
After winning its first four contests, Gannon dropped its second consecutive game with a 42-35 shootout loss to Mercyhurst last Saturday during Homecoming Weekend. The Golden Knights have dropped four straight Homecoming Games. Redshirt junior Liam Nadler broke Gannon's career passing record with an 18-of-36 chart for 280 yards and two touchdowns, passing Gannon Hall of Famer Darmel Whitfield (2001-04) and finishing the game with 7,236 career passing yards. Redshirt senior Luke Rankie moved past Pat Rodkey (1993-96) and into seventh place all-time at Gannon with 249 career tackles. Junior Brock Jones has rushed for 855 yards through six games, representing the 10th-highest single-season total in school history with five regular-season games remaining. Jones has recorded five 100-yard rushing games during the first six weeks. Redshirt junior Jesstin Hamm has caught 320 yards of passes during the last two games against Mercyhurst. Hamm moved into ninth place all-time at Gannon with 1,090 career receiving yards. Freshman Karch Holland's 47-yard field goal during the second quarter represented his season-long and the seventh-longest field goal in school history. Redshirt junior Mike Phillips (12), redshirt junior Luke Rankie (11) and redshirt junior Joshua Wiechelt (10) all recorded season-highs in tackles. Gannon entered the game ranked eighth among all NCAA Division II programs in time of possession (34:01), but Mercyhurst held a 36:47-23:13 edge.
 
IUP
The Crimson Hawks extended their winning streak to four with a 51-28 win over Seton Hill on Homecoming. So. RB Darian Bradley ran for a career-high 92 yards and four touchdowns to lead the way for IUP. Fr. WR Walt Pegues broke a school record with a 96-yard punt return, which was the first score in the opening quarter. It was also the fourth longest play in IUP history. Gr. QB Chase Haslett threw for a career-high 225 yards while Sr. WR Drew Carswell caught seven passes for 131 yards and a touchdown. Fr. RB Luigi Lista-Brinza had his fifth 100-yard game of the season with 108 yards and a score. IUP is back in action next week, traveling to Cal for the sixth annual Coal Bowl, which will help break a three-way tie as IUP, the Vulcans and Slippery Rock each have 4-1 PSAC records. 
 
Kutztown
Kutztown (3-3, 3-2) is coming off a Thursday night loss to undefeated West Chester, 29-7. This week, KU hosts undefeated Bloomsburg, when KU will dedicate its stadium in honor of Pro Football Hall of Famer Andre Reed in a pre-game ceremony, with Reed in attendance. Offensively, quarterback Chad Barton has thrown 18 touchdown passes and three interceptions for the third-best TD/INT ratio in the league, with 1,545 passing yards. His top TD target has been Anthony Kelly with eight touchdown catches, however, Kelly has not hauled in a TD in his last two games and has not hauled in two catches in the last three. On the ground, KU has ran for 100 or more yards in each of its wins, and allowed 100 or more rushing yards in each of its losses. Senior cornerback English Peay eclipsed 200 career tackles last week, the 18th player in school history with 200+ tackles. ?

Lock Haven
The Lock Haven University football team enters week 7 in search of its first win of 2014.  The Bald Eagles fell at home Saturday, 42-24 to Shippensburg, dropping LHU to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in the PSAC.  Sophomore quarterback Caleb Walton threw for 225 yards and two TDs against SHIP, while also leading the team in rushing.  Walton's 220 passing yards per game ranks him 10th in the PSAC.  Senior safety George Christas, Jr. was sensational defensively.  Christas tallied a career-high 17 total tackles in the game, including 13 solo.  Christas is tied for 3rd in the PSAC with 61 total tackles.  The Bald Eagles head back on the road next week when LHU travels to Cheyney on Saturday (Oct. 18) at 1 p.m.  Lock Haven has won its last two meetings with the Wolves.
 
Millersville
Millersville faced its third nationally-ranked and third unbeaten team in the last four weeks. Including the East Stroudsburg match-up next week, Millersville's last five opponents boast a combined record of 29-4. Millersville was led by its true freshmen against Bloomsburg. Kevin Wiggins and Malont'a Patterson led the team with three receptions apiece. Running back Phil Vass made his collegiate debut and rushed for 52 yards on 11 carries. Linebacker Reggie Slaton totaled 11 tackles, giving him double-digit stops in five of six games. He ranks second in the PSAC in tackles per game. 
 
Mercyhurst

The 446 passing yards by Boylan marked the first time since Travis Rearick threw for 424 yards against Kutztown in 2011 that a Laker quarterback surpassed the 400-yard mark in a game. His total was the third-highest mark in program history, trailing only Kissell's 512 yards against Hillsdale in 1999 and his 478 yards against Grand Valley State that same year. It also marked just the seventh time in school history that a quarterback had gone over 400 yards, with four of those performances coming from Kissell, who was inducted into the Mercyhurst Hall of Fame in 2005.

Seton Hill
Seton Hill dropped its fourth straight contest when they fell 51-28 at Indiana on Saturday afternoon. SHU trailed 30-28 with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter but the Crimson Hawks scored the final 21 points of the contest. For the second straight week the Griffins had more first downs (25-22) and more total yardage (454-449) than its opponent. Drew Jackson completed 44 of 71 passes for 440 yards and 2 TD. FJ Williams and Jarvis McClam each caught 12 passes and had 1 TD catch. Seton Hill will host Clarion next Saturday.
 
Shippensburg
SHIP defeated Lock Haven, 42-24, as senior Trevor Harman tied West Chester's Mike Washington on the all-time PSAC career list for receiving TDs (58). Junior QB Chris Lawshe completed a career-high 35-of-45 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. He now has SU's all-time record for rushing yards by a QB, as he has 269 yards this season and 760 in his career. Senior RB Blair Brooks became the eighth player in school history to surpass 2,000 career rushing yards and also scored a pair of touchdowns for the third time this season. Junior LB Cortlin Dell returned an INT for a TD in the third quarter, now giving all three of SU's starting LBs at least one "pick-six" in their career. For just the second time in the last 15 games, SU won the turnover margin. The Red Raiders did not commit a turnover for the first time since Week 4 of last season. SU won its 11th-straight over Lock Haven. SU was flagged 15 times – its most in a game in more than 16 years. 
 
Slippery Rock
California won its 10th consecutive Homecoming game and its third over SRU during that 10-game win streak. The Rock was outgained for just the second time this season. SRU ran a season-best 51 plays in the first half. The Rock ran more than 90 plays for the fourth time this season. Shamar Greene entered the game averaging 166 yards per game on the ground and was held to 55 rushing yards. Greene did manage a career-high 62 yards receiving. Zack Newsock threw for 300+ yards for the first time in his career. Mike Wainauskis kicked a career-long 41-yard field goal and is now 6-of-7 in FG attempts on the year. Slippery Rock held its opponent scoreless in the third quarter for the fifth time in six games this year. Slippery Rock will play in Michigan Stadium for the third time in history next week against Mercyhurst in the "Big House Battle" Saturday at 1 p.m. The Rock previously played games at the Big House in 1979 and 1981, setting the single game attendance record for Division II when 61,143 fans watching the 1979 game against Shippensburg.
 
West Chester
West Chester remains unbeaten on the season and in first place in the PSAC Eastern Division. With the win, West Chester has won the last three meetings with the Golden Bears and now leads the overall series against Kutztown 49-9-1. The win was also the 595th win all-time in West Chester football history. QB Sean McCartney has now thrown 20 TD passes on the season. He also becomes the fifth passer in school history to throw for more than 7,000 yards and 70 TDs. McCartney also eclipsed 300 yards passing for the third straight week. RB Brandon Monk rushed for 129 yards on 21 carries marking the second straight week, and third time in the last four weeks, that he has rushed for over 100 yards in a game. WR Mike Doty caught a career-high 7 passes for another career-best 107 yards and a career-most two touchdowns. DL Shaquil Ryder registered a career-high 10 tackles.
