Hershey, Pa. - The IUP and California men's golf teams wrapped-up competition on Wednesday in the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship hosted by Millersville in Hershey, Pa.

The top eight teams in the field will continue play to determine the national champion. The field is led by Florida Southern, as two-day leader Barry suffered a third-day score of 304 to be bumped into second place. 

IUP finished the championship in 14th, as the Crimson Hawks shot a 289 their final day. Their 907 combined three-day score was just nine strokes from qualifying for the fouth round. The Crimson Hawks dramatically improved each round, shooting a 314 on Monday and a 304 on Tuesday before shaving off even more strokes with their 289. California rounded out the 20-team field with a 951 (+99) three-day score. The Vulcans shot a 325 as a team on day one, a 312 on Tuesday and a 314 on Wednesday. Cal Story

Zach Kempa was the top golfer for the conference, finishing in a tie for 11th place with a five-over 218 for the tournament. He shot a one-over 72 on Monday and Wednesday and a three-over 74 on Tuesday. He tallied eight birdies during the three days, including three on the back nine of the final round. Four of them came on par five's while another came on a par three.

Millersville's Robert Coyne represented the tournament host and finished the competition just outside of the top 100. The Millersville junior closed his national championship with an 86 and at 33-over for the tournament. Millersville Story

Hershey, Pa. - The IUP and California men's golf teams finished day two of the 2013 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship tournament hosted by Millersville in Hershey, Pa. Millersville's Robert Coyne also competed as an individual. 

IUP moved up to 18th as a team with a combined score of 304 (+20), ten strokes better than day one. The Hawks now have a two-day score of 618. California is still in 20th place with a team score of 312 (+28) to combine with a 325 from Monday for a two-day total of 637. Barry is still in first place shooting just four-over par on day two.

The PSAC's top individual through day two is IUP's Zach Kempa, who is tied for 15th with just a four-over individual score of 146. Coyne was nine-over on Tuesday as well as Monday for a score of 180 (+18). He is tied for 93rd.

IUP turned in a team score of 314 (+30) and is sitting in 19th as a squad, while California shot a 325 (+33) as a squad for 20th. Barry is currently in first-place in the tournament, as their team hit even on the 71-par course. 

The PSAC's top individual after day one is IUP's Zach Kempa, who is tied for 15th with just a one-over score of 72. The Vulcan's top performer after the first round is Brad Thornton with a six-over score. Coyne was nine-over for a score of 80 and is currently tied for 88th.

The NCAA Championship appearance is the first for the Vulcans since 1983, while IUP is making its sixth-straight appearance on the national stage.
