WEEK 9 - OCTOBER 28-NOVEMBER 4 Women's Volleyball Eastern Division Athlete of the Week Marissa Erminio Pitt-Johnstown (Fr. / OH) Hopwood, Pa. / Laurel Highlands Freshman Marissa Erminio helped the Lady Cats earn a pair of PSAC wins last week. She charted 32 kills for a 4.6 kills per set average. In a 3-1 win over East Stroudsburg Erminio earned a game-high 17 kills and sprawled for eight digs. The freshman notched a double-double in a 3-0 victory against Kutztown with 15 kills and 17 digs. Erminio currently ranks fourth in the PSAC in kills per set with 3.56 and third in kills with 356. Women's Volleyball Western Division Athlete of the Week Laura Subject Clarion (Jr. / S) Novi, Mich. / Novi Clarion's Laura Subject led a potent Clarion offense in a 3-2 come-from-behind win over California that moved Clarion into a tie for first place in the PSAC West. She recorded the second most set assists in her career in the win over the Vulcans with 68 while adding 15 digs. Subject also recorded 53 set assists and 14 digs in a 3-1 win over Seton Hill and 44 set assists and 12 digs in a 3-1 victory against Slippery Rock. She added a pair of blocks versus Seton Hill and two aces against California. Her 12.69 set assists per set last week were over an assist per set higher than her season average. Field Hockey Athlete of the Week Taylor Bender Shippensburg (Sr. / F) Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin Shippensburg shutout East Stroudsburg (3-0) and Seton Hill (4-0) to secure its third undefeated regular season in school history with a 17-0 overall record. Bender was one of three Raiders to notch a goal in both games and scored both game winners this week. Her goal at 50:11 against ESU broke a scoreless tie and came on a strong individual effort in which she lunged for a shot and sent it in with a backhand around the goalie. She also scored the first goal at Seton Hill just 1:21 into the game. Bender now has nine goals, including four game winners, and a pair of assists for a total of 20 points this season. Standings | Statistical Leaders | Schedule/Results Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week Dom Francis Slippery Rock (Jr. / F) Hudderfield, England / Shelley College Slippery Rock’s Dom Francis notched the assist on the game-tying goal off a corner kick with 1:31 to play and then ripped in the game-winner with eight seconds to play as SRU claimed a 4-3 comeback win over Millersville in the NSCAATV National Game of the Week. Francis scored the game winner off a pass off the head of Declan Brennan. He then led the team with five shots at Shippensburg in a 1-1 tie that locked-up the No. 4 slot in the standings and secured The Rock a home game in the opening round of the PSAC Championship tournament. Standings | Statistical Leaders | Schedule/Results Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week Megan Frailer Kutztown (Fr. / F) Bel Air, Md. / C. Milton Wright Kutztown’s Megan Frailer scored on all three of her shots-on-goal this week to lead Kutztown to three victories, including two key PSAC wins. The freshman scored twice against Mercyhurst to help secure the No. 3 seed in the PSAC Championship tournament. She also served-up two corners in a 4-0 win over Alderson Broaddus that resulted in two Kutztown goals, while earning one of her own in the 60th minute. In a 2-0 win over Gannon, Frailer assisted the game-winner off a corner kick. Standings | Statistical Leaders | Schedule/Results Football: Eastern Division Offensive Athlete of the Week Zach Zulli Shippensburg (Sr. / QB) Schwenksville, Pa. / Perkiomen Valley Shippensburg's Zach Zulli led a efficient passing attack in a 34-18 road upset of No. 5 Bloomsburg in a nationally-televised Thursday night game. Zulli was 31-of-39 passing with a season-high 466 yards and five touchdowns, including strikes of 84, 75, 38, 31 and 27 yards. The defending Harlon Hill Trophy winner rose to the occasion on a national stage as his passing yardage total is the fifth-best single-game total in school history. Zulli became the sixth player in PSAC history to reach 10,000 career passing yards (10,377) and the fifth player in conference history with 11,000 yards of total offense (11,063). Zulli's five passing scores puts him in sole possession of sixth in Division II history with 117 on his career. Football: Eastern Division Defensive Athlete of the Week Zach Greenwald Kutztown (Jr. / DE) Gibbstown, N.J. / Paulsboro Junior captain Zach Greenwald hauled in one of three Kutztown forced turnovers as he scooped up a Millersville fumble and took it 28 yards for a touchdown in a 45-9 road win. Greenwald recorded 10 tackles with a game-high three tackles-for-loss. Greenwald is leading the PSAC and entered Saturday ranking fourth in Division II in tackles-for-loss per game with 2.1 per outing. Greenwald was part of a defensive effort that held the Marauders to just 82 passing yards and 184 yards on the ground. Football: Western Division Offensive Athlete of the Week Nigel Barksdale Slippery Rock (Sr. / QB) San Jacinto, Calif. / San Jacinto In a battle for the top spot in the Western Division standings, Slippery Rock's Nigel Barksdale accounted for 399 total yards to lead Rock to a 35-17 victory over California. Barksdale ran for a 16-yard touchdown that gave Rock a lead it would not relinquish and threw two third-quarter touchdown passes after California had narrowed the Rock lead to 21-10. He finished the game throwing for 274 yards and rushed for 125 yards on 14 carries for 8.9 yards per carry. During the game, the senior set a Slippery Rock single-season touchdown record with 25 in his career. Football: Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week Luke Rankie Gannon (Jr. / LB) Lockport, N.Y. / Lockport Gannon's Luke Rankie recorded a team-best 12 tackles in a win over Seton Hill that keeps Gannon in the hunt for the PSAC Championship game. Rankie tied the school's single-game record for tackles that resulted in a loss with six for 31 yards. Rankie recorded eight of his 12 tackles during the first half when Gannon led 28-21 at the break, including five stops in the second quarter. In addition to his 12 tackles and six for loss including two sacks, Rankie was one of two tacklers on a fourth-quarter safety. He leads Gannon this season in tackles (88), solo tackles (33), assisted tackles (50), tackles for a loss (14) and sacks (5). Standings | Statistical Leaders | Schedule/Results
