Edwards and Subject Earn Top PSAC Volleyball Honors

Lock Haven, Pa. – Jill Edwards of Shippensburg and Laura Subject of Clarion were selected by the league’s head coaches as the PSAC Volleyball Athletes of the Year, alongside Defensive Athletes of the Year Brooklyn Smith of Millersville and Lauren Teed of Seton Hill.
 
Pitt-Johnstown’s Marissa Erminio was named the PSAC East Freshman of the 
Year, while Hannah Kren of Gannon was tabbed the PSAC West Freshman of the Year. Shippensburg’s Leanne Piscotty and Clarion’s Jennifer Mills were each given the PSAC Coach of the Year award in their respective divisions.
 
Subject leads the conference and ranks 17th in Division II in assists with 1,390 on the year for an average of 11.12 assists per set. She is a two-time PSAC West First Team honoree while also leading the league in service aces with 59 while chipping-in 72 kills. She has led a Clarion offense that ranks atop the Western Division in hitting percentage with a .219 clip. Defensively, Subject has sprawled for 349 digs and contributed 30 total blocks.
 
Swinging at a .264 attack rate Edwards leads the PSAC and ranks 12th in Division II with 4.26 kills per set. She is just the second player in PSAC history to surpass 2,000 kills in a career. Edwards, a four-time PSAC East First Team selection, also has 49 service aces so far this season. The outside hitter does her part defensively as well with 3.14 digs per set along with 56 total blocks.
 
Smith of Millersville ranks atop the Eastern Division in digs and 12th in Division II with 675 for an average of 5.67 digs per set. Behind Smith’s defense, Millersville has held opponents to a .159 hitting percentage. Smith has also contributed 31 service aces and 58 assists this year.
 
Seton Hill’s Lauren Teed earned Defensive Athlete of the Year honors with 590 
digs this season for an average of 4.40 digs per set. Teed leads the Griffins with 47 service aces, while also contributing 17 kills and 40 assists. Thanks to Teed’s defense Seton Hill has kept opponents to a .135 attack rate.
 
Erminio ranks second in the Eastern Division with 3.63 kills per set on nearly 300 kills. The freshman has also charted 2.73 digs per set with 336 total digs and registered 18 double-doubles so far this season. She also has 60 total blocks on the year, 14 service aces, and 15 assists.
 
Kren ranks fifth in the conference with a team-high 3.5 terminations per set and a total of 416 kills. She has 335 digs on the season along with 38 service aces and 52 total blocks. Kren has totaled 16 double-double performances this season and has notched 20+ kills in each of the last three matches against regionally ranked opponents.  
 
Piscotty has led the Raiders to six PSAC Championship Semifinal matches during her 10-year 
tenure. Piscotty also won the East Coach of the Year award a season ago, as well as in 2007 and 2004. The team's 28 wins this season is the second-most in a single season in Shippensburg history. Piscotty has now compiled 29 All-PSAC performances from her athletes, including four in each of the last two seasons. 
 
Mills, the winningest coach in Clarion history, has led the program to five NCAA Division II playoff berths. In her seven seasons, Mills has guided the Golden Eagles to a pair of PSAC Western Division titles. The PSAC Coach of theYear award is the second of her career, as she earned the honor in 2010 after leading Clarion to its first NCAA D-II Atlantic Region title.
 
In addition to Edwards’ fourth appearance on an All-Conference team, Lock Haven’ Bailey Farthing has also earned All-PSAC honors all four years of her collegiate career.
