Helping Shippensburg repeat as PSAC champions at the recent PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, the 4x400 relay squad set a new Shippensburg record with a time of 3:18.28. Earlier in the year his DMR team registered a 9:47.57 time at the Penn State National Invitational, which shattered the PSAC record and met NCAA Indoor automatic qualifying standards. Why did you choose Shippensburg? I chose Ship because of their amazing education program. Being an aspiring teacher, Ship gave me the chance to develop my teaching skills and knowledge while also running for an elite DII Track and Field team. What is the biggest adjustment you had to make going from high school to college? Making decisions. All of the sudden when you get to college, everything you do essentially comes down to the decisions you make. I think everyone’s college experience is a result of how they approached it. What are your career plans? I plan to make a difference! I hope to be a high school social studies teacher, as well as a coach for track and field and possibly football. Maybe become a professor one day. Then after that travel the world, paint a picture, become a UFC fighter, who knows what’s in store! What is the best advice you’ve ever been given? Both quotes are from my father, Mike Wolfe: 1) “Treat others as you would want to be treated” – self explanatory. 2) “You can do better” – not in a negative tone, but a reminder that our potential as humans is so great that we should always push ourselves, whether it be in sports, education, our relationships with others etc, to do our very best and never be satisfied. Who is your favorite athlete and why? My favorite athlete has been John Elway since I was a kid. The perseverance and heart he displayed throughout his career were outstanding. I remember yelling at him on the television when he retired because I was so upset. What is your top collegiate athletics memory? That would probably be winning both Indoor and Outdoor Conferences as a freshman. Both accomplishments showed me how much of a team effort track and field can be. ... most memorable athletic accomplishment throughout your life? Probably being a part my high school football team, and evolving as a team, from a total record of 5-15 in my sophomore and junior year, to an undefeated season and a playoff berth my senior year. Among athletes in the family, where do you rate? There’s a bunch of football players as well as dancers and gymnasts. I think I’m the only runner right now, and I’m the only family member to have been a collegiate athlete. What person has had the most significant influence on you from an athletics perspective? My dad. He’s the best fan an athlete and son could ask for. If I could go pro in any sport it would be: football. Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions? I eat two pickles, apply medicated chapstick thrice, sing “American Pie” by Don McLean in my head and slap my knees six times while in the blocks.....so the answer is no. I don’t have any superstitions or rituals. My hidden talent is: drawing. What is your favorite vacation spot? Nags Head, OBX Words your coach says that you swear you can hear in your sleep: “We gotta go in there, and we gotta hit ‘em in the mouth!” If I could change one thing about the sport I play, it would be: to make it full contact. Stuck on a deserted island, what three things would you bring? My surfboard, my guitar and my kindle. Fill in the blanks: When you’re in my hometown, you should try the Old Bay Fries at Jamison Pour House. What’s on your Ipod during pregame? Outkast, B.o.B. Young the Giant, LMFAO, Macklemore, Rise Against, Florence + The Machine... it really depends on my mood. Who is your celebrity crush? I got three! Jennifer Anniston. She’s like fine wine. She just gets better looking with time. The other two are Shawn Johnson and Zooey Deschanel. Sport I would look bad doing, and why: Hockey... because I can’t stop without slamming into the boards. My favorite movie I’m embarrassed to admit: Elizabethtown
