ALLY KEIRN

Mercyhurst - Sport Business Major

Henrietta, N.Y. / Rush Henrietta HS

Keirn is a senior who plays the attack position for the Lakers women's lacrosse team.  A two-time All-PSAC First Team selection, Keirn led the league in points (5.78 pg) as a sophomore and registered a league-high five game-winning goals as a junior.  She has ranked among the top five in each of the last two seasons in assists per game and has gotten off to a strong start in the 2012 campaign as she netted a career-high seven goals in a recent win over Tiffin.

Why did you choose Mercyhurst?

I really loved the campus - it’s like Hogwarts - the girls on the team were wonderful and tri-mesters seemed great.
What is the biggest adjustment you had to make going from high school to college?

I would say sharing a room and keeping my half clean.  I still live with my first roommate, though.  (Love you Lin!)
What is the thing you’ve enjoyed most about college?

Lacrosse memories, Halloween costumes, and interning in the sports information office.
What are your career plans?

I want to stay involved in sports and work in sports information or coach lacrosse.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Kate Fass influenced my lacrosse career since high school by staying with me after practice to improve my skills. (Fass is a former Division I lacrosse player who attended Rush Henrietta High School)

What is your top collegiate athletics memory?

Making it to NCAAs freshman year and watching the Mercyhurst men’s lacrosse team win the national championship last season.

... your most memorable athletic accomplishment throughout your life?

I’ll say breaking the all-time assists record at Mercyhurst

What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Assists are just as important as goals. -- Coach Gruschow
What person has had the most significant influence on you from an athletics perspective?

My parents. Once I started playing lacrosse, they set up goals and a wall ball wall in our backyard and even attempted playing with me and my sister. They also spent their time driving my sister and I to and from skiing and lacrosse all over the country. They let me go on life-changing trips to Europe and my lacrosse trip to Australia and Hawaii.

Among athletes in the family, where do you rate?

My sister, Olivia, is catching up to me. She is going to be a Laker next year and play lacrosse.
Did you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?

I have to wear a bow in my hair and if I do well in warm-ups, I have to take off an even number of things. If I do bad, I have to take off an odd number of clothing items.
If I could change one thing about the sport I play, it would be:
