CARTER HAPONSKI

Slippery Rock - Business Management Major

Haponski is a senior outfielder for The Rock's baseball team, which has perenially been one of the region's top contenders.  He is coming off a season in which he batted .328 to rank ninth among all PSAC-West regulars, helping his squad to a 27-19 overall record and the No. 2 seed out of the West for the PSAC playoffs.  In 2011 he tied for the team lead with 24 walks and ranked second among teammates with eight doubles and a .450 on-base percentage.  Early this season, he ranks among PSAC leaders with a .370 average, including three doubles, and a .433 on-base percentage.

Why did you choose Slippery Rock?

The baseball tradition, my major at the time and the facilities.
What is the biggest adjustment you had to make going from high school to college?

Time management.
What is the thing you’ve enjoyed most about college?

Meeting new baseball teammates year to year.
What are your career plans?

I wish I knew.
What is your top collegiate athletics memory?

Hitting .498 for the second half of one season (29-of-60)


Among athletes in the family, where do you rate?

I’m the youngest, so at the top.
What person has had the most significant influence on you from an athletics perspective?

My father.
Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?

I wear Under Armor socks for every game.
My hidden talent is:

whistling.
I would be a lot more effective if I would spend less time:

thinking about what to do instead of just doing it
What is your favorite pro sports team?

All the Pittsburgh teams.


If I could go pro in any sport it would be:

hockey.
Words your coach says that you swear you can hear in your sleep:

Lay off the high fastball.
The most addictive snack food for me is:
