PSAC Student-Athlete Feature - Harry Turner Wednesday, February 8, 2012 4:38 PM HARRY TURNER Lock Haven - Physical Education Major Howell, N.J. / Howell HS Turner is a junior heavyweight for Lock Haven's Divsion I wrestling program. Last year he was the lone Bald Eagle to capture a title at the PSAC Championships on his way to a 25-18 overall mark. This season he was a PSAC Championship runner up and currently holds a 6-5 overall mark, which includes three falls. The experienced veteran ranks second among teammates with 64 career victories. Why did you choose Lock Haven University? I loved the team members that were here at the time. What are your career plans? I plan to teach and coach at the high school where I graduated. What is the biggest adjustment you had to make going from high school to college? Realizing that every athlete had the same level or more natural talent as me, so I couldn’t count on that for wins. What is the thing you’ve enjoyed most about college? The freedom. What person has had the most significant influence on you from an athletics perspective? My father has always made it possible for me to improve, no matter the cost. What is your top collegiate athletics memory? Winning the 2010 PSAC title at heavyweight. Your most memorable athletic accomplishment throughout your life? Making it to the state finals in my weight class during my senior year is the most memorable, and losing there has fueled my efforts ever since. Who is your favorite athlete and why? Derek Jeter because he’s a natural born leader of men. Did you have any pregame rituals or superstitions? I have to eat half a bagel with turkey on it before each match. What is your favorite pro sports team? The New York Giants If I could go pro in any sport it would be: Baseball If I could change one thing about the sport I play, it would be: The length of the season. Words your coach says that you swear you can hear in your sleep: FLEXIBILITY is a WEAPON. Sport I would look bad doing, and why: Anything that involves running because my form is awful. Stuck on a deserted island, what three things would you bring? Ipod, surfboard, hammock What is your favorite vacation spot? Belmar, N.J. What is the best advice you’ve ever been given? To always keep my pants on in public, no matter what. I would be a lot more effective if I would spend less time: Napping What’s on your Ipod during pregame?
