Shippensburg Women Capture Third Straight PSAC Indoor Track & Field Title

Edinboro, Pa. - For the third straight season, the Shippensburg Lady Raiders took first place at the PSAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships inside the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Dome on the campus of Edinboro University. 

After trailing following the first day of the meet, the Lady Raiders scored a total of 125 points on Sunday to easily overtake Slippery Rock, which had led after Saturday, and win the meet by 80.5 points over The Rock. The Lady Raiders finished with 166.50 points and with their third indoor title in history, tie Kutztown and Slippery Rock for the most in PSAC history. Slippery Rock finished in second place with 86 points, while Kutztown grabbed third place overall with 76 total points.

Tabitha Bemis of Edinboro was awarded for her weekend work with both the field MVP as well as the overall MVP for the event. Shippensburg’s Katrina Spratford won the award for track MVP.

Caitlin Stuetz of Shippensburg, broke the PSAC championship record in the 60-meter hurdles for the second straight day, finishing with a time of 8.79, which broke the record from yesterday of 8.85. Bemis finished in second place at 8.80 as both Stuetz and Bemis posted NCAA provisional marks. Courtnee Whitaker from California finished third with a time of 8.99.

Simone Carter from Cheyney broke the PSAC championship record in the 60-meter dash, a record she set last year, finishing with a time of 7.62. Monique Sims of California finished in second place (7.75) and East Stroudsburg’s Danielle Smith finished third (7.82). Both Sims and Carter's times were NCAA provisional marks.

Junior April Doyle of Kutztown finished first in the shot put with a throw of 14.03m, earning her an NCAA provisional mark. Ayanna LeBlanc of IUP took second place on a 13.25m throw and Slippery Rock’s Sandra Kakraba threw 13.14m to finish third.

Bemis landed a NCAA Provisional mark in the triple jump with a leap of 11.99m, earning her first in the event as well. Katherine Lennex (11.54m, Millersville) finished second and Lauren Redington (11.22m, Shippensburg) took third.

Erin Flick of Shippensburg took first place in the high jump with a leap of 1.66m while Lock Haven’s Brittany Whitmer finished second (1.63m) and Devyn Emerich of East Stroudsburg finished third (1.63m).

In the mile, Spratford finished first and landed an NCAA provisional mark with a time of 4:56.77. Janine Powis of Slippery Rock also earned an NCAA provisional mark with a 4:59.63 finish, good for second place on the day. Bloomsburg’s Kaitlyn McShay finished third (5:02.53).

West Chester’s Melanie Ruff won the 400-meter dash, crossing the line at 56.89 seconds while Brooke McDaniel of IUP took second with a time of 57.46. Nicole Brown of East Stroudsburg finished in third place (58.00).

Senior Amanda Raudabaugh from Shippensburg posted an NCAA provisional mark with a time of 2:15.08 in the 800-meter run. Teammate and fellow senior Lindsay Bingaman finished in second place (2:15.22) while Edinboro’s Laura Sweeney took third (2:19.62).

Carter grabbed her second first place finish of the day with a victory in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 24.90 seconds. Sims placed second (25.33) with Ruff in third (25.63).

Spratford (9:50.72) and Lara Crofford (9:55.22) finished 1-2  for Shippensburg in the 3,000 meter run. Elicia Anderson (10:00.14, Millersville) took third.

Shippensburg finished its weekend with a victory in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:53.59, setting a new PSAC championship record. West Chester (3:56.77) finished second with East Stroudsburg (3:56.95) in third.
