Indiana, Pa. - IUP defeated Shippensburg 41-10 to claim its first PSAC Championship title since 1987 on Saturday afternoon at George P. Miller Stadium.
The Crimson Hawks' offense was explosive while its top-ranked defense held strong against Division II's most productive offense in the Raiders. Shippensburg, which entered the game averaging 53 points and 556 yards of offense, was allowed just 271 yards.
Carl Fleming of IUP led the defensive attack with a game-high 12 tackles, a 40-yard interception for a touchdown and two pass break ups. For his efforts, Fleming was deemed the PSAC Championship's Most Valuable Player.
IUP's offense was led by quarterback Mike Box who connected with wideout Terrill Barnes for three touchdowns, while IUP racked-up 465 yards of total offense.
The Shippensburg loss was its first of the season, while IUP ran its winning streak to seven straight games.
The NCAA will release its 2012 Division II Football Championship Ttournament field on Sunday, November 11, at 5:00 p.m.
IUP VS. SHIP: CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW
Lock Haven, Pa. - An undefeated Shippensburg football squad will travel to George P. Miller Stadium on Saturday, November 10, to face a 9-1 IUP team to determine the 2012 PSAC Football Champion.
Shippensburg, who clinched the East Division title with a victory over Bloomsburg two games ago, enters Saturday carrying Division II's longest active winning streak with 14 games. IUP won the West Division with a 38-35 win over Gannon last Saturday, the first divisional title the Crimson Hawks have won since 2006.
The 2:05 p.m. title game is the first meeting between the two foes in six years. IUP leads the all-time series 44-17-4, while winning 20 consecutive meetings dating back to 1988. Shippensburg is 5-24-2 all-time on the road against the Crimson Hawks, with its last victory at IUP coming in 1981.
The Championship game, to be aired live on PCNTV, features the top scoring offense in D-II in the Raiders going up against the nation's toughest total defense in IUP.
The Red Raiders are averaging 566.5 yards per game on offense, 411 ypg through the air, for an average 52.7 ppg, the second most in Division II. Meanwhile, IUP enters Saturday’s game allowing just 239.9 opponent yards per game, with 69.6 ypg in rushing defense and 170.3 ypg in the air.
At the helm of the Shippensburg offense is
junior quarterback Zach Zulli, who
averages 402.7 yards per game while also boasting D-II's second best passing efficiency with 182.16. Zulli has completed 274-of-411 passes this season for 3,845 yards, 49 touchdowns and just five interceptions.
IUP is led on the ground by
senior running back Harvie Tuck, who
ranks third in the nation in rushing, averaging with 154.8 ypg, 6.5 yards per carry. Tuck has accounted for 1,019 yards and nine touchdowns in 2012 and has over 4,200 rushing yards in his career.

PSAC CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE AIRED LIVE ON PCN
Lock Haven, Pa - With a 38-35 victory over Gannon, IUP clinched the top seed in the PSAC football Western Division and will host Shippensburg, the No. 1 Eastern seed for the 2012 PSAC Football Championship next Saturday.
The title game will kickoff at 2:05 p.m. at George P. Miller Stadium in Indiana, Pa. on Saturday, November 10, and will be aired live on PCN-TV. The IUP (9-1) versus Shippensburg (10-0) will be aired a second time at 10:00 p.m. on November 10. Please click
