IUP FALLS IN NCAA SUPER REGION 1 FINALE

Wintson-Salem, N.C. - IUP football dropped a 21-17 decision to Winston-Salem State on Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Division II Football Championship Super Region 1 finals in Winston-Salem, N.C. 

The contest marked the first time since the 1999 season that IUP played in the NCAA Quarterfinals. The NCAA postseason appearance is the first in five years for IUP and the 15th time in program history. IUP now holds an 18-15 record in the Division II playoffs, with national championship game appearances in 1990 and 1993.  

IUP finishes the season holding a 12-2 overall record and the 2012 PSAC Conference championship title, its first since 1987.

Winston Salem will now play either Colorado State-Pueblo or West Texas A&M on December 8, in the NCAA Semifinals.

IUP ADVANCES TO NCAA SUPER REGION 1 FINALE; SHIPPENSBURG FALLS IN SECOND ROUND

New Haven, Conn./Winston-Salem, N.C. -
The IUP and Shippensburg football teams competed in the NCAA Division II Football Championship Second Round on Saturday, with IUP defeating New Haven 17-14 and the Raiders falling 37-14 to Winston-Salem State. 

The Crimson Hawks have met-up with the Chargers on nine occasions, with IUP holding a 6-3 advantage in the series. The two foes met for the first time in 1993 in the second round of the NCAA playoffs. IUP defeated the Chargers and later clinched its second national championship crown in program history. The Crimson Hawks also clinched the title in 1990. 

IUP will now face unbeaten No. 1 Winston-Salem in the Quarterfinal round of the playoffs, its first trip to the quarterfinals since the 1999 season. The game is scheduled for Saturday, December 1.

The 2012 NCAA playoff appearance marked the third time in nine years that Shippensburg has gained entry into the tournament. The Raiders finished their season 11-2 and 7-0 record in PSAC action.

SHIPPENSBURG AND IUP ADVANCE TO NCAA SECOND ROUND

Lock Haven, Pa. -
Shippensburg and IUP each defeated their first round competition in order to advance to the 2012 NCAA Division II Football Championship second round.

Shippensburg downed Bloomsburg 58-20, and IUP defeated Shepherd 27-17 in first round play.

Shippensburg is scheduled to play Winston-Salem and IUP will play New Haven on Saturday, November 24, at 12:00 p.m.

The winners of the second round games will play in the quarterfinals on December 1.

Lock Haven, Pa. - The Division II Football Committee announced the 2012 NCAA Football Championship tournament field of 24 teams that included Shippensburg, Bloomsburg, and IUP. 

There will be eight first round games held on Saturday, November 17, around the nation, including Bloomsburg (10-1) traveling to Shippensburg (10-1). IUP is set to play Shepherd (8-2) in Indiana, Pa.

The Bloom vs. Ship winner is set to play against Winston Salem (11-0) in the second round, which was given a bye into the second round. If IUP prevails against Shepherd, the Crimson Hawks will play New Haven (10-0), also given a first round bye. Second round contests are scheduled for Saturday, November 24. 

Contests will likely kick-off at 1:00 p.m., although other times may be deemed if approved by the committee.
