Edinboro - 2010-11 PSAC Women's Basketball Champions
Edinboro Claims First PSAC Women's Basketball Championship Since 1990
Box Score
Behind 24 points from freshman Darche' Jackson and a strong defensive and rebounding effort, Edinboro won its first PSAC Tournament championship since 1990 with a 75-58 win over California on Saturday at Bloomsburg's Nelson Field House. Edinboro, which finished 13-1 in the PSAC West, topped the Vulcans for the third time this season and sent them to their fifth straight defeat in the PSAC championship game in what was their 11th straight appearance in the title game.
Both teams shot just 38.5 percent from the floor but Edinboro attempted 13 more field goals than California, which was one result of an eight-rebound advantage on the offensive glass. The game was tight for much of the first half until the Fighting Scots took a nine-point halftime lead by ending the half on a 6-0 run and holding the Vulcans scoreless for the final three minutes. Cal then started the second half hot and cut Edinboro's lead to just one as 39-38 with 14:10 remaining. But from that point, Edinboro went on a 22-6 run to take a 60-44 lead with 7:39 remaining and the Scots would extend it to as many as 20.
Renee' Brown scored 19 points while Samantha Blazetic added 10. Amy Johns led California with 18 points while Kayla Smith notched a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Danielle Luckett added 10.
