Lock Haven, Pa. - East Stroudsburg's Terrance King and Mercyhurst's Matt Lee are the final PSAC Athlete of the Week of the 2011 calandar year for men's basketball.

Mansfield's Joe Bell earns his second straight PSAC East Freshman of the Week honor while Lock Haven's Terrell Johnson earns his first Freshman of the Week award in the West after both newcomers posted 20-point performances last week.



PSAC East Athlete of the Week
Terrance King, East Stroudsburg

King posted his third double-double of the season and the seventh of his career as he scored 16 points, hauled in 11 rebounds and also made four blocks to help East Stroudsburg to a 79-65 win over USP on Monday, which helped the Warriors extend its home non-conference winning streak to 32 games. King made 7-of-11 shots from the field (63.6 percent) and 2-of-4 free throws and also had just one turnover in 24 minutes. He had six points, three rebounds and three blocks in a 19-2 run to open the second half that turned a one-point halftime lead into an 18-point advantage midway through the second half.


PSAC East Freshman of the Week

Bell earns his second straight East Freshman of the Week honor after scoring 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting (64.3 percent) while also adding five rebounds and a pair of blocks in Mansfield's 111-94 win over Central Penn on Monday evening. He put up his stat line in just 25 minutes of playing time and it marked the fifth straight game that Bell has scored in double figures and his second straight game with 20 or more points.


PSAC West Athlete of the Week
Matt Lee, Mercyhurst
Sophomore, Guard
Bloomfield, N.J./Bryant University


Lee averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists to help Mercyhurst to a 1-1 mark at its own tournament last weekend as the Lakers topped Washington Adventist one day after falling by one point to No. 20 Bowie State. For the weekend, he made 15-of-23 shots from the floor (65.2 percent), including 8-of-12 (67 percent) from three-point range as well as 5-of-6 (83 percent) from the free throw line. Lee went for a career-high 28 points in a 94-93 loss to Bowie State on Saturday and then scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting while adding six rebounds and five assists in a 100-86 win over Washington Adventist on Sunday.


PSAC West Freshman of the Week
Terrell Johnson, Lock Haven

Johnson averaged 17.5 points and shot over 60 percent from the floor in Lock Haven's two games last week. The true freshman, who leads the team in scoring at 14.7 per game this season, posted a career-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, including five made three-pointers in Monday's loss to West Virginia Wesleyan while also adding three assists and two rebounds. That  came just a day after scoring 15 points in a seven-point loss to Urbana. For the week, Johnson shot 61.9 percent from the floor, including 60 percent from beyond the arc and turned the ball over just twice in 73 minutes of playing time.





Team Notes

Bloomsburg

Bloomsburg was off last week and will not be back in action until December 30 when it visits Chestnut Hill … The Huskies finished the first semester with an 8-2 record after going 3-5 a year ago ... Bloomsburg rallied from 11 down in the second half to beat Slippery Rock on Friday, December 9 ... The Huskies loss to Mercyhurst on Saturday, December 10 snapped the team's eight-game winning streak. The streak was the longest for the team since a 16-game winning streak in the 1995-96 season ... Larry Webster had a season-high 13 rebounds in the Mercyhurst game.

California
Cal U snapped its four-game losing streak last week with an 88-48 victory against Chestnut Hill, who is tied for first in the CACC … The game was played in Hamer Hall due to graduation activities in the Convocation Center … Senior F Steve Swiech posted his first double-double of the year (third career), finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds … Junior transfer G Keith Lowe led the team with 19 points and seven assists in his season debut … The Vulcans out-rebounded the Griffins by a staggering 57-29 margin … Cal U returns to action in Winter Park, Fla., on Dec. 29-30 at the 37th-annual Rotary Tangerine Tournament

Cheyney
The Wolves did not play over the last week … Cheyney will next take to the hardwood on January 6 & 7 when they travel to Slippery Rock and Mercyhurst.

Clarion
The Golden Eagles were off last week and will return to action until December 29 when they host Penn State-DuBois … Despite needing to replace nearly 62% of its scoring from a year ago, Clarion finds itself in a tie for first place in the PSAC West at the holiday break with a 5-1 record. The Golden Eagles have won five straight conference games and seven in a row ... Clarion picked up its 400th win at Tippin Gym with an overtime victory over Cheyney two Saturdays ago. The Golden Eagles are 400-166 in their 44th year at Tippin with 41 straight winning seasons. 24th year head coach Ron Righter has 234 of those wins ... The overtime victory over Cheyney was Clarion's first ever OT win over the Wolves who had won the first three. It was also Clarion's second OT win this year, the second time in three years Clarion has had muliple OT victories ... Senior forward Bud Teer had a pair of double-doubles in Clarion’s last two games and has five on the year and 18 in two years at Clarion.

East Stroudsburg
ESU extended its home non-conference winning streak to 32 games with a 79-65 win vs. USP on Monday at Koehler Fieldhouse ... Warriors went 4-0 during 2011-12 home non-conference schedule and haven't lost at Koehler in non-league game since November 2007 ... Jr. F Terrance King had his 7th career double-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks, moving into 4th at ESU with 113 career blocks ... Sr. G Russell Graham III added 14 points and 8 assists ... ESU used 19-2 run to start 2nd half to pull away from 38-37 lead ... Balance continues to be key for the Warriors, who average 79.8 points per game - 7 players average 6+ points, 7 have 3+ rebounds, 3 have 3+ assists and 5 have at least a steal per game ... ESU is off until Jan. 6-7, traveling to Lock Haven and Edinboro ... Head coach Jeff Wilson has 148 career wins in 10 seasons.

Edinboro
Edinboro does not return to action until December 30 at Ashland after taking last week off … Edinboro won three games in a four day period to enter finals exams with a 6-3 record … The Scots used a late 14-3 run to pull away for a 92-86 win over West Chester in a very physical contest … Jay Fletcher and Clint Nicholson led the way with 16 points, but Bryan Theriot had his third double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds, and Cory Somerville had 14 points and five blocked shots as the Scots blocked ten shots … Edinboro shot a season-high 56.9 percent from the floor against West Chester … On Saturday afternoon Edinboro missed its first six shots and fell behind 10-0 against Millersville while playing without leading scorer and rebounder Theriot. The Scots rallied for a six-point halftime lead and then built the margin to 20 before ending with a 73-58 victory … Somerville added 19 points and now has 937 career points including a season at Slippery Rock.

Gannon
Gannon was idle last week and will return to action on December 29 and 30 when it hosts the annual Porreco Cup Tournament ... GU won back-to-back games for the second time this season with convincing home wins against Cheyney (91-60) and Shippensburg (94-75) in its last action … Has reached the 90-point plateau three times this season and the 80-point plateau six times … Junior Darrell Blanton averaged 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists during two games … Blanton has reached the 20-point plateau in four consecutive games … Gannon dished out 26 assists compared to only five turnovers against Shippensburg … The 26 assists were the program’s most since matching that figure during an 89-70 victory against Ashland in the GLIAC Quarterfinals on March 1, 2008 ... The five turnovers were the fewest miscues since turning the ball over only five times during a 68-57 loss at Michigan Tech on January 13, 2005 … Gannon shot 71 percent from the field in the second half against Cheyney and 60 percent in the final 20 minutes against Shippensburg.

IUP
The 13th-ranked Crimson Hawks split a pair of games this weekend in the Fourth Annual Indiana Regional Medical Center Classic at the Kovalchick Complex, falling to hot-handed West Virginia Wesleyan 64-57 before rebounding with a 65-49 win over Urbana … IUP’s only production in the loss to Wesleyan on Sunday came in the form of Sr. G’s Ashton Smith and Julian Sanders, who combined for 40 of the team’s points and 33 of 52 shot attempts … In the 16-point win over Urbana, IUP got all-around play from several players, including a season-high 17 points from So. F Kevin Jones … Smith had another 20-point performance while Jr. Anthony Wells added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Kutztown
Kutztown was off last week and next plays on December 30 when it hosts USP … The Golden Bears (4-5, 2-4 PSAC) split their weekend crossover games against Cal and IUP two weekends ago in its last action … Sr. G Nate Edwards tallied 25 points in each of the games, extending his streak to three games of scoring more than 20 points … He made a career-high 15 free throws on 18 attempts in KU’s 86-77 win over Cal, and was one away from tying the KU school record set in the 2009-10 season … KU made 35 of its 41 free-throws against the Vulcans, tying a school-record set back in 2007-08 against East Stroudsburg … Against IUP, the Golden Bears' starting five accounted for 65 of the team's 72 points … Sr. G Devon McBride remains KU’s leading scorer at 18.8 per game … Sr. F Eric Brennan had a career-high 13 rebounds against Cal and is KU’s top rebounder at eight per game … He is also averaging 13.9 ppg.

Lock Haven
Lock Haven dropped a pair of games at the 2011 Indiana Regional Medical Center Classic at IUP, losing to Urbana and West Virginia Wesleyan … The Bald Eagles are now 0-9 on the season and riding a 28-game losing streak heading into 2012 … The Haven’s last win came on December 4 of last year at home vs. Bloomsburg … Freshman Terrell Johnson scored a career-high 20 points in Monday’s loss to West Virginia Wesleyan and leads the team in points with 14.7 points per game … Sophomore Anthony Baker is knocking down 11.1 points per game coming off the bench.

Mansfield
Mansfield outscored Central Penn 22-5 over the last five minutes to break a 89-89 tie on their way to a 111-94 win ... It marked the second time this season the Mountaineers have scored 111 points in a game and is the first time since the 2007-08 campaign they have scored 100 or more points in a game twice during the season ... Josh Dupuy dished out 13 assists in the win ... It was the most assist in a game for a Mansfield player since Jason Roscoe had 15 against New Jersey Tech in the ECAC Championship game in 2003 ... Freshman Joe Bell reached double-figures for the fifth straight game with a 20 point effort against Central Penn.

Mercyhurst
The Lakers split two games at the Mercyhurst Invitational ... Hurst fell, 94-93, to #20 Bowie State December 17 ... Matt Lee scored a career-high 28 points and Luis Leao added 22 points before leaving the game with an injury late in the second half ... The 93 points are the most scored by the Lakers in a regulation loss since 1987, when they lost, 104-101, to Pitt-Johnstown ... Hurst bounced back with a 100-86 win over Washington Adventist December 18 ... Six players scored in double figures as the Lakers shot 65 percent from the field-the highest percentage shot by the team in at least 10 seasons ... Mercyhurst finished the 2011 portion of its schedule with a 7-3 overall record.

Millersville
The Marauders were idle last week … They have already played their final game of 2011 as they won’t return to action until January 6 at California when they resume PSAC play … Millersville split its PSAC road trip with Lock Haven and Edinboro in its last action. The win over Lock Haven was the team’s second road win of the season—one more than it had all of last season … Elijah Obade grabbed double-digit rebounds in both games, giving him four consecutive games with 10 or more and six consecutive games with at least nine rebounds … Millersville blocked 13 shots in the two games—six against Lock Haven and seven against Edinboro … Obade swatted career-high four shots against Lock Haven and blocked three against Edinboro … Jaymes Miller matched a career high with four blocks against Edinboro. Miller’s 21 points against Lock Haven was a season high … Larry Grant scored 18 against Edinboro, giving him 17 or more points in seven of 10 games. He is not only the team’s leading scorer but owns the longest streak of consecutive games with an assist at nine.

Shippensburg
The Red Raiders were off last week and won’t play again until the New Year when they host Penn State-Wilkes-Barre on January 3 … In its last action two weekends ago, Shippensburg hit the road for the first time after nine home games to start the season ... SU dropped road clashes with Clarion and Gannon ... All five of SU's starters are averaging 10.0 PPG or greater ... Three of SU's seniors continue to lead the team in scoring: Jordan Stasyszyn (13.4 PPG, 40.9% from 3-PT), Will Royal (13.2 PPG, 77.3% from FT) and Craig Van Scyoc (10.5 PPG, 41.5% from 3-PT) ... SU continues to pace the league with a field-goal percentage of .511.

Slippery Rock
Sr. F Devin Taylor has recorded four of The Rock's six "double-double" efforts this winter ... Jr. C Luiz Santos and fr. G Chaquille Pratt have one "D-D" each ... Monday's loss denied fourth-year Rock head coach Kevin Reynolds the opportunity to move into a tie with Arthur Gant (1912-18) for fourth place on the SRU all-time wins chart. Reynolds now owns a 62-35 record as The Rock's boss. He is three wins shy of tying Dave Rooney (1979-85) for fourth place on the all-time wins list.

West Chester
The Golden Rams were off last week and have already played their final game of 2011 as they won’t return to action until resuming PSAC play at IUP on January 6 … West Chester split its two PSAC crossover games on the road two weekends ago, falling to Edinboro (92-86), before defeating Lock Haven (88-76) ... Freshman guard Corey Blake continues his stellar freshman season ... he averaged 11.5 pppg and 6.0 rpg on the weekend ... Sophomore Jaleel Mack scored a career-high 26 points in the loss to Edinboro ... He averaged 17 ppg in the Rams' pair of contests ... West Chester had seven players average in double figures over the weekend.
