Lock Haven, Pa. - Edinboro's Samantha Blazetic is the third different Fighting Scot to be named a PSAC West Athlete of the Week as she garners this week's honors after leading her team to a trio of wins to remain unbeaten on the year. West Chester's Allison Hostetter is the PSAC East Athlete of the Week for the second straight week after another pair of games in which she put up solid numbers.

Mansfield's Marrysa Moyer nearly averaged double-double in Mansfield's 1-1 week to earn the PSAC East Freshman of the Week honor while California's Chelsea McKnight helped the Vulcans to a pair of wins with her hot shooting from beyond the arc.



PSAC East Athlete of the Week
Allison Hostetter, West Chester
Senior, Guard
Oxford, Pa. / Oxford

Hostetter earned her second consecutive Athlete of the Week award with her strong play in two conference games last week.  In those games, the senior averaged 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and two assists per game.  In the four-point loss to No. 9 Edinboro, Hostetter scored 15 points and pulled down five rebounds.  Against Lock Haven, she posted a career-high 26 points in just 27 minutes en route to leading her team to a conference victory.  Hostetter went 12-17 from the foul line and shot 70% from the field in the contest.

PSAC East Freshman of the Week
Marrysa Moyer, Mansfield

Moyer nearly averaged a double-double on the week and helped her squad to a 1-1 record on the week with her solid performance.  During the week, she averaged ten points, nine rebounds, and three assists per game.  In the win over Slippery Rock, Moyer picked up her second double-double on the season by scoring 14 points and hauling in 11 rebounds.  The freshman was perfect on her free throw attempts on the week and shot 50% from the field, and also led her squad in rebounding in both games. 


PSAC West Athlete of the Week
Samantha Blazetic, Edinboro
Junior, Forward
Eastlake, Ohio / Eastlake North

Blazetic helped lead the Fighting Scots to a 3-0 record on the week with her solid all-around play last week.  For the week, the junior averaged 16 points, eight rebounds, 1.6 blocks, and 2.3 steals per game.  In the victory over Davis & Elkins, Blazetic scored 16 points and pulled in six rebounds.  Against West Chester, the junior shot 9-10 from the field and scored 18 points while recording four blocks, three steals and nine rebounds.  In the game against Millersville, Blazetic again led her team to a victory by netting 14 points, two steals, and nine rebounds.


PSAC West Freshman of the Week
Chelsea McKnight, California
Freshman, Guard
Grove City, Ohio / Harvest Prep

Knight helped lead California to a pair of road conference victories last week with her solid play off the bench.  For the week, she averaged 11 points, two rebounds, and three steals.  She began her week with a career-high 13 points in a win over Kutztown, which included four three pointers.  The freshman then posted nine points, two rebounds, and a season-high five steals in a win at East Stroudsburg. 




Bloomsburg
Bloomsburg heads into finals week with a record of 8-2 ... In the last two seasons the Huskies are a combined 15-3 in the first portion of the season ... Guard Alyssa Flanagan passed 300 career assists over the week after dishing out eight in two games. She now has 306 for her career, seventh best in school history ... Dana Wieller moved into 17th place on the BU career scoring list. She now has 1,083 points for her career.

California
Cal U posted a pair of wins on the road in league crossover action last week … The Vulcans announced a mid-season coaching change prior to the games with assistant coach Jess Strom being named interim head coach … On Friday, the Vulcans posted an 89-67 victory at Kutztown after making a season-high 16 three-pointers … The 16 treys are the highest single-game total in recent program history … Five players scored in double-figures in the win senior F Amy Johns and junior G Megan Kermond leading the way with 16 points … Cal U then claimed an 83-51 win at East Stroudsburg with Johns and junior G Stephanie Michael combining for 40 points … Michael posted 30 points over the weekend in her first two starts of the year after scoring only a combined 30 points in the first six games of the season

Cheyney
A third of the way through the season the Lady Wolves are still looking for their first victory ... Cheyney will step out of league play on Friday night hosting Virginia State ... It will be Cheyney's final non-conference contest of the season. Tip-off has been moved up to 5:00 pm.

Clarion
Clarion picked up its first home win of the season Saturday over Cheyney. Defense led to the win, as Clarion held the Lady Wolves without a field goal for over 13 minutes while going on a 36-7 run. Freshman Nicole Miloser played a key role in the run scoring all of her season-high 10 points during the streak. Miloser scored the first 15 points of her career over the weekend ... Courtney Healy had a season-high 17 points Friday in a loss to Shippensburg. Healy also blocked a shot in the game giving her 105 in her career ... Mackenzie Clark also had a season high in points Friday with 13 coming off the bench ... Freshman Hannah Heeter got her first start Friday and had a season high 13 rebounds.

East Stroudsburg
The Warriors (3-5, 1-5) nearly shocked undefeated IUP on Friday night at Koehler Fieldhouse, falling 46-45 after the Crimson Hawks won 86-18 last season … ESU had three possessions with a chance to take the lead in the final minute … Warriors held the PSAC’s top scoring and field goal offense to almost 40 points below its season average …IUP shot 31.0 percent shooting and had 29 turnovers … On Saturday vs. California, ESU shot 52.8 percent (19-36) but turned it over 39 times in an 83-51 loss … Warriors took 78 shots and had 69 turnovers for the week … Fr. Ryann Fiascki made her first career start at point guard vs. California and had season-highs with 9 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals … Jr. F Fayola Moise (7.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg) will be recognized as ESU’s Unsung Hero at this week’s Lehigh Valley Basketball Media Luncheon.

Edinboro
The Fighting Scots jumped to ninth in the WBCA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll this week, the highest national ranking for the program since December, 1997 … Edinboro won three games during the week, a non-conference win over Davis & Elkins (76-51), and two wins against the top two teams in the PSAC East standings. Edinboro held on for an 80-76 victory over West Chester as senior Renee’ Brown and junior Kiara Brown each poured in 19 points apiece while junior Samantha Blazetic added 18 points, nine rebounds and four blocks …. Less than 24 hours later, Edinboro defeated Millersville, 71-43, to move to 8-0 on the season and 6-0 in the PSAC West. Sophomore Darche’ Jackson keyed Edinboro with 21 points and nine rebounds. The Fighting Scots became the first team to score more than 57 points against Millersville, which entered the week leading the conference in scoring defense.

Gannon
Gannon moved to 7-0 this weekend with a pair of PSAC wins over Cheyney (75-30) and Shippensburg (64-59) … The Lady Knights are no stranger to opening the season undefeated, having rolled to a 7-0 start to open the 2009-10 season … That Gannon squad eventually won 37 straight games en route to a NCAA Final Four appearance. The rout was on early against Cheyney as Gannon out-scored the Wolves 44-19 during the first half … The following day Gannon was challenged late against Shippensburg, but offensive scores from Kelley Sundberg and Candice Hendricks twarted the Raiders' come-from-behind push … A team effort, a total of seven Lady Knights contributed five points or more during the win with Sundberg adding a career-high 12 points, with six coming during the final six minutes of the game. Gannon will take a break from PSAC action, traveling to Urbana on December 17.

IUP
IUP extended its unbeaten streak to open the season by going 2-0 this past weekend, edging East Stroudsburg 46-45 on Friday night before handling Kutztown 66-47 on Saturday afternoon … The 8-0 record (6-0 in PSAC play) is the best start to a season since the Crimson Hawks went 9-0 to begin 2007-08, a year in which they won the PSAC title and advanced to the NCAA tournament.Despite a 31.0 field goal percentage, IUP forced 30 turnovers and connected on 10 more free throws than the Warriors, proving to be the difference … The offense improved for the Crimson Hawks on Saturday, with three players scoring in double-figures, led by Jr. F Sarah Pastorek, who posted her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 17 rebounds in the 19-point win.

Kutztown
Kutztown hopes to get back in the win column when it faces Lincoln (Pa.) for some non-conference action on Friday, Dec. 30 at Keystone Arena … In three of its four PSAC games, Sisson has been the leading scorer for KU … The Golden Bears tied their season-high in steals (11) against IUP. But KU also scored a season-low 47 points against the Crimson Hawks.

Lock Haven
Lock Haven dropped both of its games this week against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East opponents Millersville and West Chester bring their record to 4-3 overall, 3-3 in the PSAC … The Lady Eagles got a big boost from senior Arlana Roland, who scored a career-best 14 points on Friday vs. Millersville and topped that the following day scoring 22 points vs. West Chester … Peaches Nesmith leads the team averaging 17.3 points per game … Heather McHugh and Sharay Hall both are also averaging double-digit points, each with 11.1 per game.

Mansfield
The Mountaineers picked-up their second win of the season in a dominating 88-66 win over Slippery Rock in PSAC crossover action Saturday afternoon ... A poor shooting performance on Friday saddled Mansfield with a 66-47 loss to visiting Mercyhurst ... Senior guard Mallory Moore made her mark on the Mountaineer record books, moving past Kathy Murphy on Friday and Allyson Buss on Saturday on the career scoring list ... Moore, who also tied Leslie Nicoterra for sixth in career steals this weekend, has 1,184 points in her career at Mansfield ... Freshman forward Marrysa Moyer picked-up her second double-double of the year against The Rock with 14 points and 11 rebounds while junior forward Julia Stevenson averaged 14.5 points per game this weekend. The Mounties will host their final home game of 2011 when they welcome Central Penn to Decker Gym on Dec. 19.

Mercyhurst
Mercyhurst split two road games this past weekend...The Lakers won, 66-47, at Mansfield December 9, as senior Megan Hoffman scored 19 points on five three-pointers...’Hurst used a 20-0 run late in the first half to propel to victory...the next day, Mercyhurst lost at Bloomsburg by 10...Hoffman led with 20 points and fellow senior Nikki Frederickson posted her second career double-double with 14 points and 10 boards...The Lakers host West Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday, December 14, in a non-conference contest.

Millersville
The Millersville women’s basketball team went 1-1 on its first road trip of the season … The Marauders knocked off Lock Haven on the road Friday, by a score of 57-56 in a tightly fought game. It is head coach Mary Fleig’s fifth-straight win over her former player Jennifer Smith, who took over the head coaching position at Lock Haven five years ago … Sophomore Leola Pinkney had a career game against the Bald Eagles scoring 20 points—first 20-point scorer for Millersville in 2011—while collecting a career-high seven rebounds … Mashira Newman tied her season high 19 points with nine rebounds and seven assists to threaten a triple-double for the second time this season … Aurielle Mosley was held without double-figures in back-to-back games for the first time since Jan. 6 and 9 of 2011 (last season).

Shippensburg
SU went 1-1 on its first road swing of the season this past weekend in PSAC play ... Defeating Clarion by 14 and losing to Gannon by five ... SU has lost games to undefeated Gannon, IUP and Edinboro thus far, but none by more than five points ... The Raiders continue to thrive at the free-throw line, shooting 78.3 percent ... Senior Monae Baker continues to average a double-double for the season with 15.1 points and 10.4 rebounds.

Slippery Rock
Slippery Rock dropped its fifth and sixth consecutive games last week, falling 86-67 at Bloomsburg and 88-66 at Mansfield in a game with two teams looking for their first conference win ... SRU is led by Danielle Smith with per game averages of 15.0 points and 9.8 rebounds ... Jasmine Cooper adds 13.1 ppg and 8.5 rebounds per game.

West Chester
West Chester split its two PSAC crossover games on the road, falling to No. 9 Edinboro (80-76) and defeating Lock Haven, 77-67 ... Sr. G Allison Hostetter averaged 20.5 ppg and 5.5 rpg last week ... She now has 956 career points as she nears the 1,000 point milestone ... Jr. F Alex Lennon scored a career-high 21 points in the win over Lock Haven.
