Erie, Pa. - Sophomore Arlen Mase of Gannon has been honored as the recipient of the PSAC Champion Scholar Award for the wrestling championship. He was given the award prior to tonight's championship finals at the wrestling championships at Mercyhurst.

The PSAC Champion Scholar Awards are modeled after the NCAA's Elite 89 award and honors the student-athlete with the top grade point average who is competing at the site of each of the PSAC's 23 team championship finals. The selection criteria for the Champion Scholar Awards is identical to that of the NCAA Elite 89 awards, which honor the student-athlete with the top GPA at each of the championship finals sites of the 89 NCAA championships across all three divisions - I, II and III. Mase is the inaugural recipient of the award at the wrestling championships and the first winter championship recipient. Over the last two months, the inaugural Champion Scholar Awards has been given out for the men's and women's golf, cross country and soccer championships, as well as the field hockey, volleyball and football championships during the fall season.

Mase is a native of Bedminster, N.J. and a graduate of Bernards High School. He is majoring in biology and is in his third collegiate semester and has currently accumulated 33 credit hours along with a 3.924 grade point average.
