PSAC Women's Basketball Athletes of the Week - 1

Lock Haven, Pa. - California's Amy Johns has been selected as this week's PSAC West Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week after her strong performance in the California Tip-Off Tournament. Merychurst's Lindsay Stamp is the Freshman of the Week in the West after her solid collegiate debut. In the East, Shippensburg's Monae Baker is the Athlete of the Week after helping the Raiders to a 2-0 start by averaging a double-double.
 

PSAC West Athlete of the Week
Amy Johns - California
Sr., F      McKeesport, Pa. / McKeesport

Johns averaged 16.5 points and five rebounds in two games last week for the Vulcans.  In the season-opening win over Indianapolis, the senior forward scored a game-high 19 points, 17 of which came in the second half.  In the following game against Minnesota State-Mankato, Johns recorded 14 points, eight rebounds, and added three assists in a loss.


PSAC West Freshman of the Week
Lindsay Stamp - Mercyhurst
Fr., G/F     Erie, Pa. / Mercyhurst Prep

Stamp averaged 20.5 points, four rebounds, and 2.5 steals on the week.  In her first collegiate game, Stamp led the Lakers with 13 points and added seven rebounds in the loss to Lake Superior State.  In the following game, the freshman poured in 28 points, which included six three-pointers, in a loss to Northwood.  Stamp's 28 points were the most by a Mercyhurst freshman since Amy Achesinski, now an assistant coach for the Lakers, scored 38 against Wayne State in 2008. 
 

PSAC East Athlete of the Week
Monae Baker - Shippensburg
Sr., F/C     Manhattan, N.Y. / East Stroudsburg North (Pa.)

Baker helped Shippensburg start off 2-0 on the season by averaging 20.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and three assists per game on the week.  In the season-opening win against Saint Michael's, Baker scored 24 points and added nine rebounds.  In the next game in a victory over Chowan, the senior recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
