ESU's Frantz, Ship's White earn first weekly awards of 2010

Lock Haven, Pa. – East Stroudsburg’s Jessica Frantz and Shippensburg’s Bre White are the inaugural PSAC Field Hockey Athletes of the Week of the 2010 season after each led their respective teams to 2-0 records during the first weekend of play in the regular season. Frantz earns the weekly award for the Eastern Division while White is the Western Division’s honoree this week.


PSAC East Player of the Week
Jessica Frantz, East Stroudsburg
Senior, Forward
Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasant Valley

Frantz recorded five goals to help lead East Stroudsburg to a pair of road wins to open the season over last weekend. The senior recorded her second career hat trick by notching three goals in a 5-0 win over Merrimack in the season opener on Saturday. Against Stonehill on Sunday, after the Warriors went down 1-0 in the 16th minutes, Frantz scored two straight goals in the 22nd and 31st minutes to put East Stroudsburg up 2-1 and the Warriors would never trail again. With her five goals last week, Frantz brought her career goal total to 37.


PSAC West Player of the Week
Bre White, Shippensburg
Freshman, Forward
Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin

White got her collegiate career off to a good start as she scored three goals on just five shots on goal and recorded an assist to help the Lady Raiders to a 2-0 start to the season with wins over Southern Connecticut and St. Michael’s. In a 7-1 win over the Owls, she scored the third goal of the game in the first half and later assisted on a late goal by Lauren Taylor in the second half. In a 9-0 win over St. Michael’s, White scored two goals in the first half less than five minutes apart from each other as the Lady Raiders raced out to a sizable early lead and never looked back.
