Mansfield, Pa. - Steve McCloskey, director of Athletic Operations and Sports Information at Mansfield University, has been named the 2010 Bob Kenworthy Good Person Award winner by the Eastern College Athletic Conference-Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA). He will be presented with the award this week at the ECAC-SIDA convention in Cape Cod, Mass.

The Kenworthy Award is given to an exceptional person who, through their actions, shows a tremendous level of respect for the profession, colleagues, his or her institution, the media and the community, and for their contributions to the corporation and mission of ECAC-SIDA.

"We couldn't think of a more deserving candidate for this outstanding honor than Steve McCloskey," Bill Gorman, past president and ECAC-SIDA board member, said. "Steve exemplifies all the spirit of the Kenworthy Good Person Award."

McCloskey served as the president of the ECAC-SIDA in 1999 and won the Irving Marsh Service Award from the organization in 2003.

Among his greatest accomplishments regarded by his colleagues is McCloskey's ability to mold young sports information professionals. Typically, more than 10 former of his former student-assistants attend the ECAC-SIDA annual workshop as full-time sports information professionals.

Jon Holtz, a 2007 MU graduate and one of those former student-assistants who is now assistant sports information director at Slippery Rock University, will present the Kenworthy Award to McCloskey at the 2010 ECAC-SIDA workshop this week.

McCloskey is the second representative from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) to earn the Kenworthy Award, joining the late Pete Nevins, who won the award in 2006.

Now in his 23rd year at Mansfield, McCloskey, at 1991 Mansfield graduate, is the first full-time sports information director in school history. He and the sports information staff have won numerous citations for publications and writing excellence.
