List features three repeat spring top 10 winners and four previous top 10 winners from this year

Lock Haven, Pa. - The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) is pleased to announce its Spring 2010 Top 10 Award recipients. The PSAC Top 10 Awards, which are selected by the PSAC’s sports information directors, recognize student-athletes who excel in both the classroom and in the area of competition. The PSAC Top 10 Awards are in their 13th season of existence, having been initiated in the 1997-98 academic year.

The Top 10 Awards recognize 10 outstanding student-athletes, five male and five female, for each athletic season: fall, winter and spring. The Spring 2010 Top 10 Award winners are Chris Edelman of Lock Haven, Kolten Hoffman of Gannon, Kyle King of Mercyhurst, Nick Spisak of West Chester and Paul Wagner of East Stroudsburg on the men’s side; and Rohini Das of Kutztown, Mary Dell of Shippensburg, Jennifer Hansen of Slippery Rock, Samantha Ingersoll of West Chester and Maddy Outman of IUP on the women’s side. Dell, Hansen and Wagner are repeat winners of a Spring Top 10 award, with both Dell and Wagner being honored last year and Hansen being honored two years ago. Dell, Edelman, Hansen and Wagner have also already been honored this academic year as Top 10 winners, with Dell being named a Fall Top 10 winner in women’s cross country and Edelman, Wagner and Hansen having been honored as Winter Top 10 winners in men’s and women’s indoor track & field, respectively.

Dell, a senior, closes out her outstanding cross country and track & field career at Shippensburg as a four-time PSAC Top 10 selection - twice this year in the fall and spring, and twice last year in the winter and spring. Hansen, a former PSAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year two years ago before redshirting last year, closes out her career as a five-time PSAC Top 10 selection - three times in the spring in three of the last four years, and twice in the winter, both this year and two years ago. Wagner, a senior, closes out his career as a three-time Top 10 selection, in the spring both last year and this year, and in the winter this year. Edelman, also a senior, was a two-time Top 10 selection this year, in the winter and now spring.

To be a candidate for the PSAC Top 10 Awards, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum of a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must be a starter or key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials for their respective team. The spring sports eligible for consideration for the Spring Top 10 Awards are baseball, softball, lacrosse, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf and men’s and women’s outdoor track & field. At the end of the academic year, all PSAC Top 10 Award winners from the entire academic year are eligible for the PSAC Pete Nevins Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards, given to one male and one female candidate at the end of the academic year.

Das compiled an overall singles record of 20-4, including a nine-match winning streak to finish the season, while playing solely No. 1 singles...She also combined with a few doubles combinations to go 16-8 at doubles, primarily at No. 1 and playing with Ridhima Borooah, with whom she is 14-8, all at No. 1 doubles...In PSAC East play, she was a perfect 5-0 in singles. Das also earned all-PSAC East all-conference honors in both singles and doubles...Under Das' leadership this season, the Golden Bears qualified for the PSAC East playoffs and advance to the conference semifinals...Das was named to the CoSIDA Academic all-District II College Division first team and was a third team At-Large ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American and was the Kutztown University senior scholar-athlete of the year...She was one of the most dominant tennis performers in Kutztown history...Das is a three-time all-PSAC Scholar Athlete. A finance and international business major, she graduated on May 8...She made the Dean's List four times and is a three-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete...She was also named PSAC East Athlete of the Year for the second straight season after another standout year.

2010 stats: 53 games played, 198 AB, 64 R, 64 H, 15 doubles, 1 triple, 8 home runs, 40 RBI, 105 TB, .530 slugging pct., 33 walks, 12 HBP, 33 strikeouts, .445 OBP, .323 batting avg....Nick Spisak batted .323 on the year, starting all 53 games that West Chester played…He was a first team All-PSAC East shortstop for the Golden Rams, leading WCU to the PSAC East Division championship for the second straight year…He is a two-time WCU male scholar-athlete of the year winner (2008, 2009)…He also is a two-time CoSIDA academic all-district honoree…Spisak made his fourth appearance on the league's all-star list…He had 64 hits, including 15 doubles, one triple and eight home runs, while knocking in 40 runs…He graduates as the PSAC all-time leader in runs scored with more than 220 in his four years at West Chester…He authored a .530 slugging percentage and a .445 on-base percentage from his second slot in the order…He is a three-time PSAC academic honor roll recipient…Two-time D2 ADA academic honor roll winner…Dean's List member…He has been on the WCU AD academic honor roll all eight semesters in school.
