Shippensburg - 2010 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Champions
Shippensburg Men Win Second Straight PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Title
Final Results
West Chester, Pa. - Shippensburg, which has made a habit recently of winning PSAC track & field championships by very narrow margins, did it again on Saturday as the Red Raiders won their second straight PSAC outdoor track & field title, this time defeating second place East Stroudsburg by just four points. The championship is also the sixth in the last eight years for the Red Raiders, who won four straight titles from 2003-06 and after a two-year drought, won it again last year.
Shippensburg, which won the 2009 indoor championship by just five points over second place Lock Haven, also won last year's outdoor title by just 6.5 points, also over East Stroudsburg. The Warriors have now placed second at the last three PSAC track meets, last year's outdoor meet, this year's indoor meet and this year's outdoor meet. Lock Haven finished in third place with 103 points while Slippery Rock was fourth with 72 points.
Unlike last year's championship when the Red Raiders won the team title despite having just two individual event champions, Shippensburg had twice as many individual event winners this year in winning the championship. Don Graybill, who won the decathlon last year, won the pole vault while Josh Neyhart won the 1,500 meters. Bryan Beegle ran away with the title in the 5,000 meters in 14:52.88, winning by just under 10 seconds. Sean Stetler also won the 10,000 meters back on Thursday night.
Other highlights of Saturday included East Stroudsburg's 4x100 relay team of Asher Ashfield, Ian Melhorn, Chris Reddick and Andrew McCloskey setting a new PSAC meet record in winning that event in :40.79 for the second straight year. McCloskey successfully defending his PSAC individual title in the 100 meters, winning in :10.85, but he finished just short in also trying to defend his title in the 200 meters, finishing second in that event. The Warriors also won the 4x400 relay. Nick Hilton of Lock Haven won the steeplechase for the second straight year,
While Shippensburg claimed the team title, it was East Stroudsburg that swept the individual meet awards. Graham, who won the 400 meters and was also on the winning 4x400 relay team, was named the track MVP of the meet. Paul Wagner, who placed fourth in the discus on Saturday after winning both the hammer throw and the shot put on Friday, was named both the field and overall MVP of the meet.
