California, Slippery Rock advance to women's final; Mercyhurst, Kutztown advance to men's final

Slippery Rock scored an upset over Bloomsburg while California swept Kutztown to advance to the championship match of the PSAC women's tennis championships. For the men, Kutztown topped Millersville 5-0 while Mercyhurst rallied back to score a 5-4 upset over Bloomsburg to advance to the championship of the PSAC men's tennis championships.
Friday's Women's Results
California 5, Kutztown 0
California swept all three doubles matches and then won two singles matches that finished without losing a single game at singles at the Vulcans topped Kutztown 5-0. California will seek its fourth straight PSAC championship tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m.
Slippery Rock 5, Bloomsburg 2
Slippery Rock won in singles at Nos. 1-3, losing just six combined games in all three flights and The Rock also won two out of three doubles matches to top host Bloomsburg 5-2 in the semifinals of the PSAC women's tennis tournament. Rock will play in the PSAC championship match for the second time in the last three seasons and will be seeking its first championship since 2003.
Friday's Men's Results
Mercyhurst 5, Bloomsburg 4
Bloomsburg won all three of the doubles matches to open up a 3-0 lead but Mercyhurst came back and won five of six singles matches to defeat the Huskies 5-4 in the closest dual match of the day, scoring the minor upset of the No. 3 seed over the No. 2 seed.
Mark Schroeder was Bloomsburg's only winner in singles, as he came back after dropping the first set to win the next two. The Lakers needed a tiebreaker to win two different sets in two different matches. At No. 1, Keith Whittingham won a tiebreaker to win the first set 7-6 and then topped Bloomsburg's Fernando Perez 6-1 in the second set. At No. 5, Adam Marnik won 6-4, 7-6 (8-6). Mercyhurst also eeked out two other three-set wins. At No. 2 Mijo Cotic topped Bloomsburg's Ricky Dove after dropping the first set 2-6 while at No. 6, Juan Franco dropped the second set 2-6 but that was sandwiched around a pair of 7-5, 7-5 wins. Kyle King's 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 was the only match of the dual that was not close.
Kutztown 5, Millersville 0
Kutztown won a pair of doubles matches by 9-7 scores to open up a 3-0 lead and then dropped just three total games in the two singles matches that were finished to defeat Millersville 5-0.
The win advances Kutztown to the championship match, where the Golden Bears will look for their second straight championship. The Golden Bears have won five of the last six PSAC championships.

Kutztown and Slippery Rock each advanced by 5-1 scores in the quarterfinals of the PSAC Women's Tennis Tournament on Tuesday afternoon. Both quarterfinal matches were held on the campus sites of the higher seeds in the East and West, with the two No. 1 seeds each receiving a bye into Friday's semifinals. Kutztown, the No. 2 seed in the East, defeated East No. 3 West Chester while No. 2 Slippery Rock topped No. 3 Mercyhurst.
Kutztown will now advance to face West No. 1 seed California while Slippery Rock will face East No. 1 seed Bloomsburg in the semifinals on Friday. In the men's semifinals, Millersville will face Kutztown while Mercyhurst takes on Bloomsburg.

Pairings Set for PSAC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships
Lock Haven, Pa. - The pairings have been set for the upcoming PSAC Men's and Women's Tennis Tournaments, which get underway next Tuesday with two quarterfinal matches in the women's tournament and culminates next Friday and Saturday with the semifinals and championship matches for both men and women. Bloomsburg will once again serve as the host for the tournaments next weekend, while the two women's quarterfinal matches will be held on campus sites.
