Kutztown’s Gentry named top freshman, LHU’s Russell and Leverington tabbed top coaches

Lock Haven, Pa. - Four different schools are represented in the 2009-10 PSAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field postseason awards. East Stroudsburg’s Chris Reddick is the Track Athlete of the Year while Shippensburg’s Don Graybill is the Field Athlete of the Year for the second straight indoor season. Kutztown’s Sean Gentry is the Freshman of the Year while Lock Haven co-head coaches Aaron Russell and Heather Leverington are the Coaches of the Year.

Reddick earns the Track Athlete of the Year in addition to his Track and Overall Athlete of the Meet honors that were bestowed on him at the PSAC meet. He won the 200-meter dash at the PSAC meet in a new record time and also finished second in the 400 meters. Those performances helped the Warriors finish second at the PSAC meet, coming in just .5 points shy of first place Lock Haven. He also competed in the 200 at the NCAA meet and helped the Warriors finished in a tie for 29th place.

Graybill adds his second straight Field Athlete of the Year honor to his Field Athlete of the Meet award he was given at the conclusion of the PSAC meet. For the second straight year, he won the heptathlon at the PSAC meet and also won the pole vault portion of the event. In doing so, he also broke his own meet record for most points in the heptathlon, which he had set last year. He also finished third in the high jump, all of which helped the Red Raiders to a third place finish at the PSAC meet. Graybill also became an All-American by finishing fifth in the heptathlon at the NCAA meet, helping Shippensburg finish in a tie for 35th place.

Gentry garners the Freshman of the Year award after standing out at the PSAC meet by winning the high jump event with a jump of six feet, 10.75 inches (2.10 meters). He also placed just one spot out of the points in the triple jump, finishing ninth wit ha jump of 45 feet, 9.25 inches (13.95 meters). His performances helped the Golden Bears finish seventh at the PSAC meet and also qualified him for the NCAA meet.

Russell and Leverington are the Men’s Coaches of the Year after leading Lock Haven to men’s PSAC indoor championship and by the narrowest of margins, just .5 of a point over second place East Stroudsburg, 135-134.5. Russell and Leverington serve as co-head coaches of the Bald Eagles’ men’s and women’s track & field programs, with Russell primarily coaching the track athletes and Leverington primarily coaching the field athletes. The indoor title for the Bald Eagle men marked the program’s first since 2007 and its conference-leading fifth overall indoor title. The Bald Eagles also won title from 2002-2004 in addition to 2007 and this year. This year, the Bald Eagles won two individual event titles at the PSAC meet: Greg Mock in the 60 meters and Nick Hilton in the mile run.
