PSAC Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week - 2

IUP's Emily Shubra and Bloomsburg's Alison Carney both put forth solid efforts, earning accolades as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week in Women’s Tennis.


Western Division

This past week Emily Shubra registered a 2-0 record at the No. 4 and 6 singles positions and 2-0 at No. 2 and 3 doubles. On Saturday against Chestnut Hill's Kara Hill, Shubra won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. She then teamed up with her sister Alyssa as the pair reeled of an 8-1 victory to give the Crimson Hawks a 9-0 team victory. The Crimson Hawks then returned to the court on Sunday against Holy Family, which was ranked second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and eighth in the East Region going into the match. Shubra won her singles match 8-2 in an eight point pro set against Chelsea Brown and the Shubra sisters again teamed up to get an 8-6 win over Holy Family's Brown and Piecyk, helping the team to a 8-1 victory.

In the Huskies only match of the week they posted a 9-0 shutout over University of the Sciences. Carney posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles over Bridget Frymoyer. Carney also was part of the No. 1 doubles team with Emily Palko and the pair defeated the team of Sara Durham and Zahra Hasan by a score of 8-3.
