PSAC Baseball Athletes of the Week - 3

Lock Haven, Pa. - Kutztown’s Jared Frey is the PSAC East Player of the Week while East Stroudsburg’s Christian Saveri is the East Pitcher of the Week for the second time in the last three weeks after picking up a win with seven shutout innings last week. California sweeps this week’s West awards as Sam DiMatteo is the Player of the Week and Nick Schreiber is the Pitcher of the Week after each had a hand in helping the Vulcans sweep their PSAC-opening series last weekend. 


PSAC East Player of the Week
Jared Frey, Kutztown
Senior, 1B
Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley

Frey hit .500 in five games last week for Kutztown in which the Golden Bears went 3-2. He had seven RBI, two home runs and a triple. He went 3-for-5 with a homer in a 16-9 win over Mars Hill and also went 2-for-2 with three runs scored vs. Lenoir-Rhyne.


PSAC East Pitcher of the Week
Christian Saveri, East Stroudsburg

Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic

Saveri earns his second East Pitcher of the Week award in the last three weeks after tossing seven shutout innings in East Stroudsburg’s 1-0 win over Chestnut Hill in ESU’s final game of its spring break trip. The win helped the Warriors finish its trip on a six-game winning streak. Saveri combined on the shutout by scattering five hits while striking out seven and walking two to earn his first win of the season. 


PSAC West Player of the Week
Sam DiMatteo, California
Senior, OF
Center, Pa./Center

In seven games last week, including a four-game sweep of Slippery Rock in the first PSAC series of the year, DiMatteo hit .516 (16-for-31) with 13 runs scored and 10 RBI. He had seven doubles and a home run, an .839 slugging percentage and a .556 on-base percentage for the week and also stole seven bases on eight attempts. He opened the week by going 4-for-6 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs against Concord and then added four more hits, including three doubles along with four RBI, three runs and two steals in a 14-inning win over Armstrong Atlantic. In the series against Slippery Rock, DiMatteo hit .500 (7-for-14) with four RBI and seven runs, highlighted by a 3-for-4 performance in Game 3 with a double, home run, three RBI and three runs.


PSAC West Pitcher of the Week
Nick Schreiber, California
Senior, P
Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle Antrim

Schreiber threw a complete game in the second game of the series with Slippery Rock, picking up the win by going all seven innings and allowing eight hits and three runs while striking out four.
