Bloomsburg Captures Third Straight PSAC Field Hockey Championship
Box Score
Bloomsburg, Pa. - Bloomsburg scored an early goal in the 10th minute, then added to its lead early in the second half and then held off a late East Stroudsburg charge to claim a 2-1 win over the Warriors and win their third consecutive and 17th overall PSAC field hockey championship.
The Huskies, which are four-time defending NCAA champions, will take an 18-2 record into the NCAA Tournament after avenging one of its two losses from this season. The Warriors, which topped the Huskies on the same field in early October, outshot the Huskies 14-8 but were only able to convert on a late goal by Caitlin Brownley in the 59th minute. They had some good scoring chances in the final 10 minutes but were unable to convert as Bloomsburg goalie Meghan Hollenbach made nine saves in the game.
Bloomsburg scored first at the 9:32 mark as Jenna DiSabatino lofted a high-arcing shot over the head of East Stroudsburg goalie Maureen Ordnung. It remained that way until the 39:24 mark when tournament MVP Amanda Riley notched her third goal of the tournament off an assist from DiSabatino to make it 2-0.
It marks not only the third straight PSAC championship for the Huskies but also their fourth in the last five years and seventh in the last nine seasons. The 17 overall titles are easily the most in PSAC history, now six more than Lock Haven, which no longer plays in Division II for field hockey.
