Top Seeds Shippensburg and East Stroudsburg Advance to Men's Soccer Championship

Red Raiders to host championship at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday

Both top seeds advanced in Wednesday's semifinals of the PSAC Men's Soccer Tournament, and No. 1 Shippensburg will host No. 2 East Stroudsburg on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. for the PSAC title. The Red Raiders will be going for just their second-ever PSAC championship while East Stroudsburg will look to tie Lock Haven for the most titles in conference history with its 20th.

Saturday - Championship

Wednesday - Semifinals
Top-seeded Shippensburg made a statement by knocking off the defending PSAC champions Slippery Rock by a 5-0 score. The Red Raiders (14-5) set a new single season school record for victories as Miles Harriger scored all that would be needed in just the seventh minute. A late first-half goal by Kevin Lombardo was all second-seeded East Stroudsburg (13-6) needed to defeat No. 3 Millersville, the PSAC runner-up in each of the last two seasons, to advance to its first championship match since 2007. The Warriors then held off a furious Millersville charge in the second half that saw the Marauders double up the Warriors on shots. Box Score

Lock Haven, Pa. -
The field has been set for the 2010 PSAC men's soccer tournament. Shippensburg has claimed the No. 1 seed after tying for the regular season championship with East Stroudsburg. The Red Raiders won the tiebreaker based on their regular season win over the Warriors. Not only are the Raiders the top seed, but this will mark their first PSAC Tournament appearance since 1996, when they finished in third place and fell in the semifinals. Shippensburg's only previous PSAC championship came in 1975. 

East Stroudsburg will be No. 2 seed and will host the other semifinal match on Wednesday. The Warriors own the second-most conference championships in PSAC history with 19, but have not won a title since 2007. Millersville, the tournament runner-up the last two seasons, is the No. 3 seed while defending tournament champion Slippery Rock is the No. 4 seed, the The Rock won out on a tiebreaker with Mercyhurst, which it defeated by a goal last week, for the last spot.

The four-team tournament gets underway on Wednesday with semifinal matches at the sites of the higher seeds. The two winners will advance to the championship match on Saturday at the site of the highest remaining seed.
