Miniscalco gives ESU second straight honoree, Jackson leads Cal to big road win

Lock Haven, Pa. - Devon Miniscalco of East Stroudsburg is this week’s PSAC East Player of the Week, giving the Warriors two straight East Athletes of the Week to begin the season after she helped lead ESU to a 3-0 week. California’s Paula Jackson is this week’s PSAC West Player of the Week after her outstanding play in goal helped lead the Vulcans to a pair of victories last week, including one against PSAC West preseason favorite and eighth-ranked Slippery Rock.  


PSAC East Player of the Week

Miniscalco makes it two straight weeks that the PSAC East Player of the Week has come from East Stroudsburg, as she scored four goals and recorded an assist for a total of nine points to help the Warriors to a 3-0 week with wins over Millersville, Mansfield and Charleston. Those wins helped East Stroudsburg improve to 5-1 overall and get off to a 2-0 start in PSAC East play. Miniscalco had a goal and an assist in a 5-2 win over Millersville last Wednesday. On Saturday, she scored another goal in a 3-1 win over Mansfield, netting the Warriors’ third goal of the game to put them up 3-1 in the 52nd minute just over four minutes after Mansfield had cut the lead to 2-1 with a goal in the 48th minute. Against Charleston on Sunday, shen scored two goals less than four minutes apart in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and put the Warriors up 3-1 in a game they would go onto win by a 5-1 score. Through six games, the sophomore co-leads the team with five goals from her midfield position after starting all 22 games last year at back.

 

PSAC West Player of the Week

Jackson posted a 0.48 goals against average in two games last week, allowing one goal in 186 minutes, to help California to a 2-0 week with victories over Edinboro and No. 8 Slippery Rock. The sophomore first made four saves in recording her second straight shutout in a 2-0 win for the Vulcans over the Fighting Scots. On Saturday, on the road at No. 8 and PSAC West preseason favorite Slippery Rock, Jackson made a season-high six saves and allowed just one goal as Cal scored the game-winning goal in the seventh minute of overtime to claim a 2-1 victory. On the season, Jackson has allowed just one goal in over 276 minutes of play for a 0.33 goals against average for the 3-0 Vulcans.
