PSAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week - 1 Wednesday, September 2, 2009 10:16 AM Lock Haven, Pa: Clarion’s JARED SCHMADER won individual honors in season-opening competition Monday and Tuesday at the Ohio Valley Invitational. Schmader, who has medaled seven times in his career at Clarion, has been recognized as the inaugural Athlete of the Week in men’s golf for 2009. Men’s Golf Jared Schmader - Clarion Junior Cooperstown (Maplewood) Schmader shot a two-day score of 1-over par to capture medalist honors at the Ohio Valley Invitational in Marietta, Ohio. His 141 total consisted of an opening-round 70, followed by a 71 on Tuesday, two strokes better than runner-up Gavin Smith of IUP. Schmader’s 70 on day one was the lowest round of the tournament. Schmader topped a field of 84 golfers, leading Clarion to a third-place showing out of 15 teams. IUP tied host Ohio Valley for the low team round with a +37 (597). The Crimson Hawks were awarded the team title by virtue of a tiebreaker in which their No. 5 golfer recorded a lower score than that of the No. 5 golfer from Ohio Valley.
