Lock Haven, Pa. - The field for the 2009 PSAC softball tournament has been set with the conclusion of the regular season. Under the new format for this year's tournament, nine teams will participate in the tournament in groups of three in a double-elimination format this Friday and Saturday at three different sites. The winners of each "pool" will then advance to the finals, which will be held on Sunday, May 3 at a site to be announced in a single-elimination format.
Division winners Kutztown, Lock Haven and California (Pa.) will be the hosts for the first round of the tournament this weekend. Kutztown, the No. 1 seed from the East, will host the West's No. 2 seed, Edinboro and the Central's No. 3 seed, Mansfield. Lock Haven, the No. 1 seed from the Central, will host East No. 2 Shippensburg and West No. 3 Slippery Rock. The West's top seed, California, will host Central No. 2 Bloomsburg and East No. 3 East Stroudsburg.
Games at each of the three sites will being on Friday at 11:00 a.m. between the respective No. 2 and No. 3 seeds. The second game at each site is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. between the No. 1 seeds and the winners of the first game. The third game of the day is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. between the losers of games 1 and 2, which will be an elimination game. Saturday's games are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. with the winners of game 2 in each pool playing the winners of game 3. At the Kutztown, site, game 4 will begin at 11:00 a.m. If necessary, the final game of each bracket will be played immediately following game 4 on Saturday.
