Mansfield, Pa. - Shippensburg's men's and women's cross country teams won team titles at the NCAA Atlantic Region cross country meet on Saturday morning. Both teams' victories were narrow, winning by a combined total of 31 points, 17 for the men and 14 for the women. Shippensburg's Neely Spence, one week after successfully defending her PSAC individual championship, did the same as she claimed the individual title, topping Millersville's Priscilla Jennings by 26 seconds. Edinboro's Ben Hahn won the men's individual title, topping Lock Haven's Nick Hilton, the PSAC individual champ, by 17 seconds.

The Red Raider men were led by Bryan Beegle, who finished third in 31:26. Ethan Rissell placed sixth, Stephen Schelander took eighth and Matt Gillette finished ninth. Edinboro finished second as the Fighting Scots were led by Hahn and Chris Lantinen, who finished seventh. PSAC champion Lock Haven took third. PSAC teams held down the top 10 spots in the team standings and the top 26 spots individually.

The Lady Raider women had just two finishers in the top 10, as Spence was followed by Mary Dell, who finished third, but only one other team in the field had as many as two top 10 finishers. Abby Huber and Kathleen Frey finished in 24th and 25th place, respectively, to lead the Raiders. Kutztown finished in second place despite not having a single runner finish better than 14th place. Bloomsburg had two top 10 finishers to place third. PSAC schools took the top 13 places in the team standings and the top 10 spots and 35 of the top 37 spots in the individual standings.

The NCAA Division II cross country championships will be held in two weeks on Saturday, November 21 in Evansville, Ind., hosted by Southern Indiana.
