Lauren Beckley of Shippensburg, the reigning PSAC East Player of the Year, is the PSAC East Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks this year after her double-double performance led the Lady Raiders to a win over defending CACC champion Philadelphia last week. Her teammate, Kerry Conroy, is this week's PSAC East Freshman of the Week after her contributions also helped the Lady Raiders gain the win. The reigning PSAC West Co-Player of the Year, Brooque Williams of California, is this week's PSAC West Player of the Week after recording three double-doubles last week. Lock Haven's Kacie Hershey just missed a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds in the Lady Eagles' only game of the week last week and for her efforts is this week's PSAC West Freshman of the Week.



PSAC Players of the Week - Nov. 30

PSAC East Player of the Week
Lauren Beckley, Shippensburg

Beckley earns her second PSAC East Player of the Week award in the last three weeks after recording a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds to help Shippensburg to an overtime 76-70 win over reigning CACC champion Phildelphia in the Lady Raiders’ only game of the week. She shot 56.3 percent from the field (9-of-16) and also made 3-of-7 from three-point range (42.9 percent) and also made all four of her free throw attempts. She also had just one turnover in 41 minutes of play. Beckley, who already had a double-double just four minutes into the second half, made three three-pointers in the final five minutes of regulation and also tied the game with a pair of made free throws with just seven seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime.
 

PSAC East Freshman of the Week
Kerry Conroy, Shippensburg
G, Fr.,     Oakland, Mich./Northern Garrett


Conroy scored 13 points, including a runner off the glass in the final minute of overtime that gave Shippensburg the lead for good, in the Lady Raiders’ 76-70 OT win over Philadelphia last Tuesday night. Conroy also grabbed five rebounds, dished out five assists and had just two turnovers in 40 minutes of action. She shot 50 percent from the field (5-for-10), made both of her three-point attempts and went 1-of-2 from the free throw line.
 

PSAC West Player of the Week
Brooque Williams, California
G, Sr.,     Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry


Williams averaged a double-double and posted double-doubles in all three games to help California to a 2-1 record last week to earn her first West Player of the Week award of the season. The reigning PSAC West Player of the Year averaged 20.7 points, 13.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.7 steals in wins over Lake Erie and Ashland and a loss to Northwood. She shot 48.9 percent from the field (22-for-45) and 77.3 percent (17-of-22) from the free throw line. Williams opened the week with 15 points, 12 rebounds and five assists in an 81-59 win over Lake Erie. She then posted 21 points, 14 rebounds, seven steals and three assists in a last-second 72-70 loss to Northwood before wrapping up the week with a 26-point, 13-board performance in an 83-74 win over Ashland.
 

PSAC West Freshman of the Week
Kacie Hershey, Lock Haven
F, Fr.,     Cochranville, Pa./Cotora


Hershey narrowly missed a double-double as she scored a game-high 18 points and also pulled down nine rebounds to help Lock Haven to an 85-45 win over Washington Adventist in LHU’s only game of the week. She led a quintet of Lady Eagles in double figures in the game while shooting 58.3 percent from the floor (7-for-12) and making 4-of-6 free throws (66.7 percent). Of her nine rebounds, five were offensive boards and she also contributed a block and a steal and did not have a single turnover in 19 minutes.




PSAC Team Notes

Bloomsburg Huskies
Bloomsburg did not play last week...They get back on the floor on Monday night with their home opener against Wilmington...The Huskies have started the season 2-1 after a season-opening 67-45 win over Chestnut Hill College and an 80-72 overtime victory over Nyack College…Fr. G Dana Wieller collected PSAC Freshman of the Week honors in each of the last two weeks after her 18 point performance against Chestnut Hill and totaling 50 point in two games at the Nyack Invitational, combining to go 9-of-17 from three-point range…So far this season, Wieller is averaging 22.7 points and is shooting 45.8 percent from the field and 52.0 percent from beyond the three-point line…So. G Kelsey Gallagher had two consecutive 14-point, 8-rebound performances to open the season and is averaging 13.0 points and 7.3 rebounds so far this season…Fr. G Alyssa Flanagan had 9 assists and no turnovers in her first collegiate game against Chestnut Hill and has 16 assists and 4 turnovers this year.

California Vulcans
The Vulcans are off to a 4-1 start under first-year head coach Mark Swasey…Sr. guard Brooque Williams posted double-doubles in all three games last week…Through four games this year, Williams and Smith are both averaging double-doubles with 20 points and 10 rebounds…Williams now ranks fourth in school history with 1,628 career points, while Smith is 12th all-time with 1,152 career points…Redshirt Fr. guard Kiara Brown scored in double-figures in her first three career games last week, including 18 points in her first collegiate start.

Cheyney Wolves
After starting the season 1-1, the Lady Wolves took the week off...Cheyney will play three games this week.  Cheyney is back in action on Monday, November 30 at Caldwell...On Wednesday, the Wolves will face Georgian Court and on Saturday Newport News Apprentice.

Clarion Golden Eagles
Clarion did not compete last week...They are back in action on Saturday at Urbana...Clarion started the season 2-0 for the third straight season, the 12th time under 21st year head coach Gie Parsons and the 15th time in school history … Janelle Zabresky, who sat out last year, has made an immediate impact in her return. The PSAC's leading shooter two seasons ago, Zabresky has picked up where she left off hitting 66.7 percent (12 of 18) of her shots while averaging 8.7 points and 7.3 rebounds in Clarion's first three contests. Zabresky also has six blocked shots giving her 74 in her career, good for fifth all time at Clarion…Bethany Koch has two double-doubles in 3 games after recording 4 last season…Lizzie Suwala finally missed a free-throw vs. Seton Hill.. Suwala, who is 10 of 11 from the line this year, hit her first 7 of the season running her consecutive free-throw steak to 30 before missing on her 8th try.

East Stroudsburg Warriors
The Warriors did not play last week...They will be back in action on Tuesday against USP...ESU was very competitive in the first half of both of its games to open the season in a tournament at Merrimack...The Warriors trailed No. 22 Tampa, 31-25, at halftime of their opener before falling 66-49...They led Tiffin 26-25 at the half in the consolation game but dropped a 57-44 decision...10-point runs to start the second half were key in both games...Sr. F DeAnna Rayam scored 13 points in both games and was named to the All-Tournament team...Rayam is ESU's leading returning scorer (10.2 ppg) and rebounder (4.3 rpg) entering the year...ESU was 8-for-22 from the 3-point line vs. Tampa but just 1-for-16 vs. Tiffin...The Warriors are playing the 2009-10 season under acting head coach Justin Potts (men's assistant)...ESU hosts USP on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Edinboro Fighting Scots
Edinboro split their two games this week to make their record 3-1 heading into a break in their schedule until December 12...In Tuesday's 95-47 victory over Thiel, Samantha Reimer had a game high 19 points as she was perfect from the field (8-8) and the line (3-3) while adding six assists and six steals...Forwards Samantha Blazetic and Kelsey Conklin chipped in 14 points each as five Scots tallied double figures...The Scots tied the school record for most steals in a game with 35 and most blocked shots with ten...In Saturday's 77-74 loss at Charleston, Conklin had a game high 21 points while grabbing five rebounds while Renee' Brown had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds...Reimer added 19 points in a back and forth game that featured 16 lead changes and 12 ties...The Scots return to action on December 12 at the Susan G. Komen "Shoot for the Cure" Tournament at Indiana, Pa. with a 5:30 tipoff against West Liberty.       

Gannon Golden Knights
Gannon, ranked 11th in the USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25, extended its regular-season winning streak to 19 contests with a perfect 3-0 record at last weekend's North Star Invitational...The Lady Knights have not dropped a regular-season game since a 65-52 loss at IUP on January 24, 2009...Gannon has won its first nine games for the first time in school history..Sr. Kristina Freeman was named tournament MVP. She averaged 18.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, two assists, 1.7 steals and one block in three games...Sr. guard Carrie Nolan was named to the all-tournament team after extending her streak of consecutive games with at least one three-pointer to 40 and becoming the 21st player in school history to score 1,000 career points...Brittany Tabron was named to the all-tournament team after averaged 16.7 points, seven rebounds, three steals and one block during the weekend event.

IUP Crimson Hawks
IUP snapped a two-game skid with a 59-46 win at District of Columbia, holding the Firebirds to 36 percent shooting, forcing 28 turnovers and holding a 43-27 rebounding advantage...The win was the third in four all-time games versus UDC, and the teams will have a rematch Saturday in Indiana...Sylvie Tafen has scored in double figures in all four games including 23 in the UDC victory...Lacey Claar hit 4 of 6 from 3-point range and moved within six of becoming the sixth player in school history with 100...Seniors Kierstin Filla and Hillary Shope both reached the 100-games played plateau.

Kutztown Golden Bears
Kutztown has not trailed in the second half of its two victories, both road triumphs...The Golden Bears are beginning the season with four consecutive games against schools from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (Wilmington, Holy Family, Georgian Court and Chestnut Hill)...Kutztown will still face CACC members University of the Sciences (Dec. 5) and Philadelphia (Dec. 29)...Melissa McQuade has led KU in scoring each game...In its three games, KU has placed at least three players in double digit scoring...McQuade's 17 rebounds were two shy of her career high of 19 established against Cheyney last season...McQuade has reached double figures in scoring 38 times and in seven consecutive contests. McQuade grabbed her 500th career rebound against Holy Family. She has 513 for her career...Meredith Starr has handed out at least five assists in every game this season...Kristen Murray has made an immediate impact by averaging 12.7 points per game, second on the team...When KU hosts third-ranked California on Wednesday, it will be KU's second nationally-ranked opponent in its first five games...Murray and Chauntelle Schroeder are a combined 11-for-11 from the foul line through three games.

Lock Haven Bald Eagles
Freshman Kacie Hershey scored a game-high 18 to lead five Lady Eagles in double figures as the Lady Eagles rolled past Washington Adventist 85-45 in LHU's only game last week...With the win Lock Haven improved to 2-2 on the young season...The Lady Eagles are 2-0 at home...LHU gets a chance to make it a perfect 3-0 at home on Wednesday when it hosts Mansfield...Jr. forward Kristen Kudrick, who missed last year, is leading LHU is scoring with 13 points a game. She's also pulling down 6.3 rebounds a game...Sr. Marissa Elliot is chipping in with 10.5 points/game...Both of Lock Haven's losses came at the Millersville Tip-off classic to West Chester and host-MU.

Mansfield Mountaineers
The Mansfield women's basketball team suffered its first two losses of the season in a trip to Ohio against Notre Dame and Lake Erie…Mallory Hafer, the only senior on this year's squad, has been the team's leading scorer in three of the first four game averaging 16.0 points per game…Hafer has connected on 13-25 3-point attempts over the first four games of the season…Mallory Moore is averaging close to a double-double through the first four games of the season averaging 12>8 points and 9.8 rebounds per outing.

Mercyhurst Lakers
The Lakers dropped two games to tough GLIAC opponents this past weekend, falling to Ashland and Northwood…Amy Achesinski posted her 15th career double-double against AU, with a game-high 25 points and a career high 17 rebounds, including a double-double in the second half alone…Samantha Loadman hit five three-pointers, scoring 17 points against Ashland, the second game in a row in which a Laker made 5+ triples in a game, and seventh time of Loadman's career…Fr. Kaylee Foster exploded for 21 points Sunday against Northwood, the first freshman to top 20 points in a game since Loadman's 21 at Gannon Feb. 23, 2008…Foster was the third 20-point scorer for the Lakers this season, while Mercyhurst has had a player score 20 or more points in each game so far this season…The Lakers have been efficient from the free-throw stripe, hitting .825 of their foul shots so far.

Millersville Marauders
Millersville picked up two more wins to begin the season 4-0 for the third straight year…Fr. Mashira Newman, last week's PSAC East Athlete of the Week, led the team in scoring for a third straight game when she dropped 15 in MU's 69-59 win at USP last Monday…Jenna Craig (13 points, 10 rebounds) collected her 15th career double-double on Saturday as the Marauders beat Philadelphia 68-41…MU finished with four double-figure scorers in Saturday's win, marking the first time that's happened since all five starters scored 10 points or more in a 72-58 win at Cheyney back on Feb. 18, 2009…The Marauders forced 36 turnovers against Philadelphia, the second time this season the team has forced 35+ turnovers in a game...Last season MU forced that many in just three contests…11 of the 15 players that saw action in Saturday's win found the scoresheet.

Shippensburg Red Raiders
Shippensburg has won two in a row after dropping two of three in Florida to start the season…Lauren Beckley added another double-double against Philadelphia (25 points, 11 rebounds) and hit three-pointers on three consecutive possessions in a 76-70 overtime victory over Philadelphia, the reigning CACC champions…The Lady Raiders shot 17-of-18 (94.4%) from the free-throw line against the Rams…The Lady Raiders also have compiled at least 15 assists in four consecutive games for the first time since the middle of the 2007-08 season…SU will compete this week in the ESU Rotary Classic. 

Slippery Rock - The Rock
Slippery Rock (1-3) was idle last week and returns to action with two home games this week, Monday vs. Urbana and Thursday vs. Penn State-Beaver...10-year Rock head coach Laurel Heilman is seven wins away from becoming the school's all-time leader in victories.

West Chester Golden Rams
West Chester University improved to 4-0 on the year with a win over Goldey-Beacom College on the road last Tuesday evening...WCU also started out the 2007-08 campaign with four consecutive wins...Five Golden Rams reached double figures in the win...Mary Kate Serratelli scored 13 points off the bench for the second straight game...Allison Hostetter registered her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds...She also posted six steals and four assists...Hostetter has made each of her last 11 foul shots over WCU's last three games...Head coach Deirdre Kane recorded her 399th career victory...She is currently 16th on the all-time list of wins among Division II coaches...She goes for win No. 400 on Wednesday at Philadelphia University...WCU hosts the Carol Eckman Classic this Friday and Saturday.
