L-Tyler Phillips, R-Billy Colton PSAC Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week - 10 Monday, November 2, 2009 2:53 PM Lock Haven, Pa: Tyler Phillips and Billy Colton had top performances to help clinch PSAC playoff berths for their respective teams and are this week’s PSAC Athletes of the Week. Phillips' lone goal edged East Stroudsburg as the Huskies clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2003. Colton's game-winning goal against No. 11 Slippery Rock made the difference as the Lakers’ clinched the No. 1 seed in the PSAC West. Eastern Division Tyler Phillips- Bloomsburg Freshman/Forward Ephrata/Ephrata Rookie Tyler Phillips scored the lone goal for the Huskies in a 1-0 win over East Stroudsburg and is this week’s PSAC Athlete of the Week for the Eastern Division. Phillips scored the goal at the 47:30 mark off a pass from Mike McGee and beat the Warrior’s goalkeeper to put the Huskies on top. The goal was his 11th of the season and the win gave the Huskies their first playoff berth since 2003. Bloomsburg ended the regular season with a record of 10-5-2 overall and 5-2-1 in the PSAC East. Phillips and the rest of the Huskies will face the No. 1 seed Millersville on Wednesday, November 4th during the first round of PSAC playoff action. Western Division Billy Colton-Mercyhurst Junior/Forward Pitsea, England/Chalvedon Billy Colton of Mercyhurst had the game-winning goal against No. 11 Slippery Rock and is this week’s PSAC Athlete of the Week for the Western Division. Colton scored during the 80th minute of the 2-1 victory which gave Mercyhurst the No. 1 Seed in the PSAC West. In non-conference action on Friday, Colton also scored the Lakers lone goal in early minutes of the second half against Lake Erie College. In Colton’s last three games, he has recorded five goals and now leads the team in goals (13) and is tied with teammate Nicholas Thompson in points (27). Colton and the rest of the Lakers will be back in action on Wednesday, November 4th when they face No. 2 seed Slippery Rock during the first round of PSAC playoff action.
