Lock Haven, Pa. - West Chester’s Tara Malkiewicz is this week’s PSAC East Player of the Week while Gannon’s Tenyka Francique is the PSAC West Player of the Week. Both athletes are the second different individuals from their respective teams to be honored as an Athlete of the Week this year. Malkiewicz scored a pair of goals in two wins for West Chester last week and also contributed to the Golden Rams’ dominating defensive effort that featured shutouts in both wins and extended West Chester’s streak of not having allowed a goal to five games and a span of 503 consecutive minutes. In a 2-0 win over Bloomsburg last Wednesday, Malkiewicz scored an insurance goal in the 82nd minute to put that game away for West Chester after the Rams had held just a 1-0 lead since the 51st minute. The win avenged West Chester’s only loss of the season to this point. On Saturday, she added another goal in a 3-0 win over Mansfield. Malkiewicz and the West Chester defense allowed only six shots combined in both games last week.

Francique helped lead Gannon to a perfect 2-0 week by recording a total of four goals, including two in each match, and an assist for a total of nine points in a 2-0 week for the Golden Knights last week. Her efforts helped Gannon extend its unbeaten streak to six matches after starting the season 1-3. In a 4-1 win non-conference win over Wheeling Jesuit, she scored the first two goals of the game, including the game-winner. Then, in the crosstown rivalry match with Mercyhurst, she scored the first goal of the game and then iced the win with a goal in the 84th minute and also assisted on the game-tying goal in the 64th minute in Gannon’s 4-2 win over the Lakers. Francique scored her four goals on eight shots on goal and currently has a streak of five consecutive games in which she has scored a goal.
