Brad Boyle of IUP birdied the first playoff hole to defeat his teammate and defending NCAA individual champion Gavin Smith and win the PSAC individual title while the performances of both Boyle and Smith in the second round helped lead the Crimson Hawks to their third consecutive PSAC men's golf championship.

The Crimson Hawks as a team shot at 16-over par 592 (298-294) over the two championship rounds to beat out California and Millersville by 23 strokes. The Vulcans and Marauders tied for second place at 39-over 615. Cal shot rounds of 302-313 while Millersville was the opposite with rounds of 313-302. Both teams topped Clarion by one stroke for second place as the Golden Eagles settled for fourth place with a score of 40-over 616 (302-314).

Boyle and Smith, after being two of five players tied for the individual lead after the first round, each put up second round scores of 2-under 70 to tie for the individual title. Those two 70s were two of only three rounds under par for the entire tournament. On the first playoff hole, Boyle hit a pair of three-woods on the Par 5 No. 1, chipped onto the green and then made his birdie putt while Smith settled for a par. Both finished seven strokes ahead of the third place finisher, Paul Babashanian of California.

Gannon's Drew Deimel, Clarion's Jared Schmader and Cal's Bryan Bustamante finished in a three-way tie for fourth while IUP's Ryan Kennedy, West Chester's Griffith Basehore, IUP's Leo Acklin (the defending PSAC individual champion) and Clarion's Zach Schloemer finished in a four-way tie for seventh place. All of those players are named All-PSAC as the Top 10 finishers in the championship.

First round play will resume on Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. The groups will then continue with the second round with tee times beginning at 10:10 a.m.

The men are scheduled for 18 holes each day on Saturday and Sunday. The women's tournament is unable to be held this weekend due to academic conflicts for some teams and it therefore will be held in the spring from April 23-24, 2010, also at Hershey Country Club.
