California Claims PSAC Women's Volleyball Championship

California, Pa.California claimed its second consecutive PSAC championship and finished the season undefeated against PSAC opponents in 2008.  California made it a clean sweep through PSAC East champion Lock Haven with a 3-0 win (25-14, 25-22, 25-11) in the championship game Saturday. 

 

California as a team had a .299 hitting percentage with 11 team blocks.   Freshmen Bridget Bielich had eight kills with no errors with a .667 hitting percentage and junior Ludmila Amaral had six kills with no errors, a .462 hitting percentage and a service ace.  Junior Joanna Nist led the Vulcans in digs with 16 of the teams 42 and the team has 11 blocks.

 

For Lock Haven, the conference leaders in hitting percentage, the team had a tough night with a .103 hitting percentage and six service errors.  Junior Christie Naumann led the Lady Eagles with six kills on 15 attempts for a .267 hitting percentage.  Junior Fabian Gomez led the team in digs, 11, and assists, 24.  California led every statistical category in the championship game.

 

California’s junior setter Renata Silva was named tournament MVP with a stellar performance through the tournament. In the tournament, Silva had 110 assists, a service ace, and had 11 kills on one error.
